Hello EQ readers. I hope you’re pre-summer plans are gearing up. Something tells me this summer of music and film is going to be legendary…I’ve scored some tickets to Pet Shop Boys in Manchester, a-ha at Wembley and am anxiously awaiting the return of my queen Tiffany to London in July. I might also go broke in trying to nab Harry Styles and ABBA tickets but YOLO right?

Speaking of Legendary – have you seen the Season 3 trailer yet?

If you haven’t seen Legendary yet, you’re missing out on some FIERCE programming. C’mon Vogue!

Check into the Trixie Motel

Is Trixie Mattel taking over the drag world? She is definitely the most enterprising queen to emerge from Rupaul’s Drag Race. Just when you think – “What can Trixie Mattel do next?” Squirrel-friend opens up a monther-tucking hotel! And of course, nothing matters unless the cameras are rolling, so grab yourself a cocktail and head on over to Palm Springs to see what Trixie Motel has in store for you…Between this and the Taco Bell Hotel, I don’t know what is more ridiculous…

Oh wait, this Weird Al Yankovic movie trailer is more ridiculous…

Yes, you heard that right, Weird Al Yankovic is getting his own epic movie – entitled Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, following in the footsteps of Elton John, Freddie Mercury, Whitney Houston and Madonna. I don’t quite know if this sort of original programming is going to make people want to buy a Roku TV or not, but hey – you know I’m going to watch this anyways. Starring Daniel Radcliffe as Weird Al himself, Weird promises to be a glitzy parody epic re-telling of the prince of parody that we didn’t know we actually needed

And in movies I won’t be seeing at the cinema…

Despite it’s big spend on advertising by Paramount (formerly ViacomCBS), I definitely won’t be seeing Top Gun Maverick at the cinema. Why? Tom Cruise – that’s why. The fact that everyone seems to forget he’s backed by the evil church of Scientology is bonkers to me. He should be boycotted. Instead of seeing Top Gun Maverick at the cinemas, I suggest you all watch Leah Remini: Scientology & The Aftermath or listen to her podcast to find out why. I love you Lady Gaga, but not happy you’ve associated yourself with this hot mess…

Hello my fabulous Electroqueers. Donut judge me, but it’s been quite a few months since I’ve done some random rants, but fuck me – a lot has been going on! I bought a new (and might I say FABULOUS) 2-bed/2bath flat and moved back to London over New Years, I’ve had some medical issues (don’t worry, I’m A-OK and alive and kicking), I’ve had covid a few times (join the club right?), travelled all over the States and Spain (not for debauchery of course), produced an EQ Music Live show with Myylo and somehow fell in love again and found myself in a long-distance relationship.

The adventures never stop, but here goes another attempt to revive my random rants again…

Oh and BTW – is anyone else going bankrupt trying to buy all these concert tickets lately? ABBA, Pet Shop Boys, Greyson Chance, Harry Styles, a-ha

She don’t want a big pill, she wants a Willow Pill

OMG wasn’t the finale of Rupaul’s Drag Race S14 spectacular?! It’s been the best finale I’ve seen in a long time. Big congrats to Willow Pill for snatching the crown. She was my favorite queen from the very beginning and deserved the win. Big up to Lady Camden as well who fought valiantly for her $50K first alternate prize. I’m just so happy that cuntesa Daya Betty didn’t win – I hope I never have to see her on my tv screen ever again.

“I Hate People” the Adam Joseph remix is on repeat.

Never a truer anthem for the ages has been produced.

I’m “A” fan of Charli XCX, not a “big” fan

Boys On Film watched Charli XCX’s documentary “Alone Together” at this year’s BFI Flare Film Festival. Needless to day, having worked with Charli XCX back in the day, I had some precise feelings around this documentary…

The big gay streaming binge…

Need something new to stream? Might I recommend “Minx” on HBO Max and “Heartstopper” on Netflix. Both delightful. One pushes the boundaries of how much (and how hard) everyday peen can be seen on the screen and the other one is just so sweet and innocent that it will melt your little gay heart – think of “Get Real” updated for the 20s.

In my case it makes my cold black heart turn just that little bit bluer…

For long time readers of this blog, you might remember that I used to write a regular random rants feature on here. For new readers of this blog, you might be saying “Who is this Raj person? Mandy runs this sound town!”

Well, I haven’t gone anywhere. After promoting Mandy to Editor, I took a backseat on writing about new music to focus on my digital media career which led me to places like Google, British Vogue/GQ, MTV and now finally fulfilling a lifelong dream of working for WarnerMedia (WarnerBros, DC Comics, HBOMax, Cartoon Network, CNN, Cinemax). I still take care of all the technical side things, the business side of things and I’ve been integrating my love of film more on here with our Boys On Film reviews with Phil Marriott. I also organise our fabulous EQ Music Live nights in London and manage our artists Lostchild and Mickey Taylor.

However the mayor of this sound town, Mandy – has been doing a stellar job keeping the music editorial alive and well here on EQ Music and I honestly can’t pay her enough for all her contributions to my little baby that I birthed back in 2007 – keeping all of you (in the millions peeps) up-to-date on the latest and greatest in pop, electronic and indie music. Love you Mandygrams.

As we seem to be coming out of the pandemic (knock on wood), I’ve been doing a lot to craft my new era in all areas of my personal life – like love, community, home and hobbies. One of the things I wanted to do is bring back my random rants as it’s a great place to document all these thoughts about music and film that whiz around through my weird, cluttered pop-cultured mind.

So here goes. One. Two. Three – Let’s RANT.

Shameless Show Promotion. Can you tell we have a massive musical boner for Myylo? We are so excited he’s headlining our next EQ Music Live show on October 23rd. Come out and party with us. We twisted Lostchild, TIN, Mickey Taylor and Nic Billington to open for him. Could this show be any gayer?

The Korean Hunger Games? Are you fucking watching Squid Game on Netflix? I watched the first episode last night and I’m slightly traumatised and fascinated at the same time. Binge watch mutha-fuckin inevitable.

Sugamums now, but always Sugababes. The original lineup of the Sugababes are have released a 20th Anniversary edition of their iconic debut album “One Touch”. Anyone else feel like they need to move this comeback of new music on a little faster FFS? Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Keisha, Mutya and Siobahn, but this promise of new music seems to be taking years and years. Let’s go babes! Actually never-mind, this clip of them for The Sunday Times makes me love them all over again.

London Film Festival starts this weekend. Oi. I have 46 films on my watchlist and there is no fucking way I’ll be able to see even half of the ones I want to see this year. Expect reviews of the films Phil, Sean and I manage to catch over on Phil Marriott’s Boys On Film channel. Check out our preview below. I was on holiday in Spain during the initial press screenings…

Well there you go. Random Rants are back.

That felt so cathartic. Let’s do it again.

Raj 🙂 @rajmopolitan
