Eeek! We can confirm that none other than US pop sensation JORDY has landed on our British shores for a string of three shows next week in the UK in Birmingham, London and Manchester. It’s the very first time that JORDY has performed in the UK and EQ Music is super excited to being chosen to produce these inaugural shows for him.

Of course it wouldn’t be an EQ Music Live show unless we curated some extra special talent to support the pop superstar – so it shouldn’t surprise you that we looped in LA pop wunderkid Myylo and rising Irish pop muse Ocean Tisdall to be on the lineup as well. Some of you may remember Ocean Tisdall from when he blew up all our collective minds at our last EQ Music Live showcase event in February.

This show is gonna be special…

So how did this special JORDY UK Tour come about you ask?

Well, having worked closely with Myylo over the last few years on international events, we were quite familiar with JORDY already and have been a massive fan since his track Long Distance came out, we knew we definitely wanted to work with JORDY if given the chance. So, rewind to last summer when I was at a Myylo show in LA, I clocked JORDY in the audience and went straight up to him to introduce myself. We had a little laugh about our online relationship over the years between blogger and artist, having felt like we knew each other already, but having never met! So naturally I asked him why he’s never toured the UK and he responded that “it was on the list”. Well, me being the impatient gig maker that I am talked to his people and pitched this tour idea and “voila!” nine months later – here we are!

So to celebrate the imminent JORDY UK shows kicking off next week, we will be celebrating JORDY WEEK with discounted tickets for Birmingham and Manchester which you can only get here on EQ Music Blog until Monday, 22nd May – so hurry, tickets are going fast and most likely will sell out.

But what about London you ask? Well, we only have a few tickets left for London available so you’ll have to be quick to scoop them up here or on DICE. And we have a handful of discounted London VIP tickets too, so if you wanted to meet JORDY in-person and grab a photo with him, now’s your chance!

Stay tuned to JORDY and EQ Music’s social media for the next couple of weeks for fun content while we are on the road bringing this unique gay pop extravaganza to you!

Album Review “Ahh” + Listen to “All Gays Go to Heaven” by Myylo https://eqmusicblog.com/album-review-ahh-listen-to-all-gays-go-to-heaven-by-myylo/ Thu, 22 Dec 2022 11:45:40 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=33093 "Ahh" the debut album of Myylo is OUT. We recommend not missing the track "All Gays Go to Heaven". A heartfelt ode to humanity.

How awesome! At last and above all “Ahh“, by Myylo. The debut album we have been tracking through out 2022, is finally out! This is a release I have anticipated on the blog since Myylo first showed up with the power-pop anthem “Being Born Kinda Sucks“, in February. It has been quite a year for the singer-songwriter. One where each passing month, more lyrically captivating teaser tracks appeared. “Abercrombie and Fitch Boy“, “Tally Ho“, “Cling On“, “Pink Boy Heart“, and “Haircut“. Accordingly. And also, to complement these releases were his unique and endearing style of DIY music videos. Where in these, Myylo was more often seen goofing around in them. Acting up charmingly and adorably.

As the countdown to the album release continued. We learned along the way that the body of work was not entirely a concept piece. But rather. It is a project consisting of snapshots that is written about same-sex relationships and dating.

In the album “Ahh“, he ruminates on an existential crisis, “Being Born Kinda Sucks,” and dreamily crushes on “Abercrombie & Fitch Boy“. Waxes lyrical about hooking up “Tally Ho” and kissing hot boys, “Cling On“. In the track “Pink Boy Heart,” he revealed his softer side. Here he expresses his desire for warmth, tenderness, and intimacy with another man. On “Haircut,” he imparts a brilliant mix of whimsical repartee and melancholy feelings in equal measure. Tracks “Reservation” “Dogs Shouldn’t Die,” and “All Gays Go To Heaven” complete the line up. When all of the above is combined. “Ahh” shapes up as undeniably brilliant. An unskippable record. That reminds us of the importance of being our unapologetic selves.

Lastly, in particular I wanted to take a deeper look at the album’s most recent focus track, “All Gays Go To Heaven“. Since here is where he openly converses on the topics of equality and religion in equal measure.

“God is sitting on her throne. Welcoming the wayward home. Ones they sent to therapists. Ones who carried lisps and limp wrists. So I don’t know why people say. That I’m not going there someday. When you lay me in my grave. I’ll be coming home”.

While not being a banner-carrying anthem. Instead, he stays within his lane of intimate style of storytelling. Navigating LGBTQ+ identities and religion. Myylo went there. His skillful songwriting. A further reminder. Of the plaintive honesty of the heartfelt ode, emphasizing the virtue of humanity.

The excellent debut album “Ahh” is out now. Wrap your ears around it – HERE

Whoop! Make sure this important date is marked in your diaries as soon as possible, EQs. According to a tweet he sent out recently, Myylo will drop his debut album” Ahh” on the 16th of December. (PRE-SAVE HERE). From the tracks he has already teased us with this year, promoting this album. I feel confident about saying, that we should expect this release to provide us with at least two handfuls of thoughtful lyrical bops. Also that it will namely cover topics where he observes modern life and dating boys, (duh, obviously). And that both quirky and tenderhearted styles of pop songwriting will feature.

His latest teaser track is “Haircut“. The topic here is quite unusual. Since there are no songs that I am aware of, written typically about hair. Although, if anyone can make a song about getting your hair done catchy and memorable and also sound interesting. I do, however, recognise Myylo as unquestionably the correct person with the right skills to handle this.

Listen on Apple Music

In this episode of Myylo’s melodrama, he turns something as simple as a visit to the hairdresser into a cute ode about getting dumped. The song is basically, Myylo letting us know he is not OK and having a tough time emotionally. We learn his emotional outpouring is happening because he allowed his hair to grow out and that he was a little lackadaisical for a hot minute about self-care.

“I remember last September when you ran your fingers through my waves. Now they’re sticking to the broom in some nameless hairdresser’s room, agitating my heartbroken brain.” He laments about both his discarded tresses and his ex-lover.

Folks, make no mistake. This really is the epitome of a bad hair day for Myylo. Perhaps praising him for his songwriting on this new song might help him to feel less sad. Here goes. The songwriting is nothing short of a brilliant mix of whimsical repartee and melancholy feelings in equal measure. He performs and delivers the song like a total pop star. Hopefully, my comments have done the trick. Furthermore, I meant what I have said sincerely.

Oh, how the floodgates have opened! Since his EP era came to a close last year with the release of the aptly named “My EP Era Is Over Now” EP. Singer-songwriter, Myylo let on a debut album was in the works. As a consequence, in recent months and in readiness for the upcoming release, he dropped off a slew of new tracks. “Being Born Kinda Sucks,” “Abercrombie and Fitch Boy,” and “Tally Ho.” Here comes another. Album teaser #4 is “Cling On,” where Myylo waxes lyrical about his infatuation / borderline obsession with his lover.

It isn’t like Myylo to express his loving thoughts about boys in a mushy way. Instead, he conjures up daydreamy images using his wonderful sense of whimsy more often than not. The track “Cling On” makes use of both these traits. This is Myylo’s charming way of appearing cute and needy at the same time.

Checking out the lyrics of the track, it is too apparent he has no intention of letting his love muffin out of sight.

“I guess that I’m a needy dude. Gotta stay close to you at the Whole Foods. And at the club. Use you like a crutch. Holding your hand while we dance, dance revolution.”

Even when his lover acts up annoyingly, Myylo sees past the irritations. This is because he is viewing life through a pair of love googles. So much so, that he is not noticing the world around them.

Openly, he declares, “I’m a little bug sucking love parasite,” by way of affirmation.

Listen on Apple Music

For the music video. Maya Sassoon (“Being Born Kind Sucks“) is at the directorial helm. Disclaimer: the clip contains gross scenes of PDA. And also features inflatable palm trees. There is one scene, Myylo almost wears nothing other than a cute unicorn pool float.

Cast your queasy feelings aside. Feast your eyes on the usual Myylo mayhem. (Remember, as always. It is the hot boys that show up when working with Myylo.) We sincerely thank him for smooching with these hotties for the sake of making his charmingly queer art.

The quirky video proves the drought of music videos has ended

On my browse through Nylon magazine today, I read an article in the culture section about the upcoming Netflix Documentary “White Hot: The Rise & Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch.” I knew of it as an American branded clothing store, but did not know anything about the controversy surrounding it. The fact is, I have walked into only one Abercrombie & Fitch store in my entire life. Although, yes, my lasting memory of that visit. The iconic scented aroma that permeated throughout the store, still lingers with me. You may now be thinking, why am I discussing fashion and not music with you today? I’ll explain this now. I was researching Abercrombie & Fitch because the amazeballs singer-songwriter Myylo has a new track out today, called “Abercrombie & Fitch Boy“.

As well as being synonymous for creating a unique, sensory shopping experience instore by continually pumping wafts of their signature cologne “Fierce” onto the shop floor. Abercrombie & Fitch employs models disguised as shop assistants in their locations. At one time, it was commonplace to meet shirtless models parading around in-store. I get the idea Myylo remembers this fondly. In the past, visits to Abercrombie & Fitch were like walking into a thirst trap of muscular torsos and washboard abs. Is this the stuff of Myylo’s dreams perhaps, (I can’t say I blame him) and where he takes inspiration from for the new song co-written with Dorian Electra and Christian Fiore.

Listen on Apple Music

The track is another melodically infectious pop confection that sits well with all of Myylo’s countless others. Following suit of his other recent release, “Being Born Kinda Sucks“. Myylo confirms the drought of music videos is over. He’s out with another quirky but delightful visual clip for “Abercrombie & Fitch Boy” directed by Byron Gamble.

I love the track of course, but this dreamy, super adorable video by Myylo makes me love it even more.

The post Watch “Being Born Kinda Sucks” by Myylo appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

You need to drop whatever you are doing. This is a pop emergency. After spending a year writing bops for the likes of ZolitaSomebody I Once F*cked“, “Cry” for Clinton John and producing “F The World” (Acoustic) for Dorian Electra. Myylo is back with a new track, but not only this, he has dropped a music video as well. I have craved this day to happen for a long time.

BOOM! I expected his lyrical style to always revolve around guitar strummed ditties. It turns out he proves me wrong by doing something quite wild and unexpected on “Being Born Kinda Sucks“. There’s the usual whip-smart lyricism with a side order of comedy. But for definite, Mylylo sets off a firework or two when arriving with the bolder pop/rock stylizing on this track because of having a full-on existential crisis.

The reason why we have got a new song from Myylo means something, or might it be someone has him all bugged off again. So what is it that irks him? Mostly, he ruminates about religion, politics, basically, those in authority. Those who govern and set rules. I am kinda with Myylo on this, as he is clearly sick of knuckleheaded crazies as I am. Thus, he hits back at attempts to dull his shine.

“I don’t know Jesus Christ maybe it’s hard being alive. You’ve got to pay bills and rent, and one day your parents are dead. People say we’re ok, but we’re really not OK. I don’t know what the f*ck being born kinda sucks,” he concludes.

Listen on Apple Music

In the music video, we meet, detective Myylo, Jesus Myylo, bitchy Myylo, and…well… Myylo, all played by the critically acclaimed and dead sexy actor Myylo (who is also your dad’s fave) – (his description!)

I don’t have much of an appreciation for rock music, but I have always been a fan of the Wheatus track “Teenage Dirtbag.” To be honest, I consider the song is more power-pop leaning than heavy, rock. Myylo’s “Being Born Kinda Sucks” does sound in some way spookily similar to the band’s debut single of 2000. In a funny twist, when my son overheard me playing “Being Born Kinda Sucks” he asked why I was listening to “All Star” by Smash Mouth?…. ha, ha. I really dig these vibes on Myylo, though. His conversational style of lyrics lends really well to this power-pop styling. I have always praised Myylo for his songwriting and lyricism as being his stand out talent. I craved more animation from him. He showed up, on “Being Born Kinda Sucks.” I for one, am a fan that he’s dared to stir things up a little.

When I hear this song, I just want to jump around and shout along with Myylo in his anthemic chorus, “BEING BORN KINDA SUCKS.” – Woohoo!

Well, we’ve come to an end of Myylo Week here on EQ Music.

It’s been an absolute blast to post our exclusive video content this week with Myylo.

To top off this fun-filled week – we have a BIG Myylo announcement.

Poster design by Javi Lopez from Inspaceabove

We fucking miss live music!

Need we say more? Of course. Myylo has agreed to come to London in September to do an EQ Music Live show and we couldn’t be any more excited. All this and the lovely Lostchild and Mickey Taylor will be on support.

Obviously, this is all covid-allowing and all, and assumes everyone has been vaccinated and we are back to a somewhat new normal here in the UK as laid out by Boris’ road to recovery roadmap.

We do expect to have some more concrete details to share in May regarding tickets, meet and greet info and the exact date, venue (sorted already) and time obviously, so consider this a placeholder announcement for now with more info coming.

Check out some of our other EQ Music Live shows we’ve collaborated on with the likes of Frankmusik, Betty Who, Dragonette, Jennifer Paige and The Sound Of Arrows to get a flavour of what our live music nights are like.

To help wet your appetite for Myylo’s EQ Music Live show, we’ve pulled a little YouTube video of him performing “Homesick” which is one of our favorite songs of his. So just imagine this, Myylo, in London, singing all his latest and greatest. We are super stoked. Keep checking back for more details as we’ll leave them on the homepage on when you can get your tickets.

Welcome back to Myylo Week on EQ Music.

For today’s exclusive content, Myylo serves up the ultimate revenge song “Finger” which you can stream on Spotify.

Myylo is one boy you DON’T want to cheat on. If you do, he’s gonna put you on blast, write a sweet-ass country song about it and smash up your car. You’ve been warned.

“Finger” is how we first found about Myylo. Word on the interwebs was there was a new Steve Grand on the scene, serving up some pretty thoughtful and catchy gay country songs – and boy are we a sucker for that.

With “Finger” Myylo was able to put himself on the map by learning to write songs in Nashville, releasing his 2017 “South” EP which we played to death. Even if country music isn’t quite your jam, we think you’ll appreciate the pop sensibility that Myylo first gave us. “Homesick” is an absolute jam and you really should check out his earlier work.

Stream or download the 100% Myylo playlist on Spotify which probably wins the playlist of the year from us. Two hours of music genius.
