In today’s emerging artist spotlight, we introduce the incredibly talented artist, songwriter, and model Eden Hunter. Since the launch of her music career, she has been making significant waves. Especially so after being honoured as the 2022 Emerging Artist of the Year at Mighty Hoopla. Eden’s captivating lyrical pop has been winning over fans in droves. As her emotionally resonant songs connect on a universal level while showcasing a beautifully textured vocal quality that lays bare her vulnerabilities.

Eden has masterfully refined her craft while making a significant impact in the music industry in a remarkably short time. She has not only opened for major artists like Tom Grennan, Ella Eyre, Thomas Headon, James Smith, and Anna of the North. She has also established herself as a compelling new voice to watch. Now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived. The announcement of her highly anticipated debut EP, “The Circus Man,” set to release later this year. Leading up to this exciting debut, Eden introduces her first single, “Knock Me Out,” a polished pop anthem that delivers an empowering message sure to resonate with listeners.

Knock Me Out” is the first single of a new project that I have been trying to make for a long, long, long time. It is my love letter to Hollywood that I wrote during a trip to Los Angeles that truly changed my whole perspective of who I am and what I want”. Eden Shares

Every artist draws influence and inspiration from those who came before them. In the case of “Knock Me Out,” it seems that Eden may be channelling the iconic Madonna. (Particularly her hauntingly beautiful ballad “Frozen.”) The vocal stylings reveal striking similarities that are hard to ignore. It may not be a mere coincidence that Eden so poignantly leads into the chorus with the heartfelt plea, “Dear sweet Madonna, please don’t take this all away.” Seemingly, if true, this connection not only deepens the song’s emotional resonance but also pays homage to a pop legend.

Regarding the song’s theme, Eden states…

“I have always been somebody who indulges in the romance of life, the theatrics of the highs and lows and how main character it feels, which can be wonderful or it can be really heavy, hard to shake and distracting from what is actually happening to me. I owed myself honesty and the opportunity to heal and for some reason it felt easier allowing this to happen ‘across the Atlantic Ocean’ far away from anything or anyone I knew.”

Notably, Eden Hunter has swiftly and impressively refined her musical style. Thus showcasing a distinctive blend of catchy melodies and emotive lyrics. With the latest offering “Knock Me Out,” she stands on the cusp of a significant breakthrough, ready to captivate audiences and leave a lasting mark on the pop music scene. Above all, Hunter’s confident delivery and vibrant energy position her as an exciting and fresh talent, promising to shine brightly among the industry’s newcomers.

I can’t help but be captivated by the remarkable ascent of singer-songwriter Tom Grennan. But especially so following the success of his acclaimed sophomore album, “Evering Road.” What’s even more intriguing is Tom’s transformation into a prominent figure for product placements, becoming the face of numerous household brands. This strategic move keeps him in the public eye. Accordingly fostering a sense of familiarity that encourages listeners to develop an affinity for him. To be completely honest, I initially didn’t think I would find myself discussing Tom’s work, as his musical style hasn’t traditionally aligned with my tastes. Yet, here I am, totally entranced by his latest single, “Shadowboxing.” This vibrant track has not only caught my attention but also compelled me to reevaluate my perceptions of Tom’s artistry. It’s fascinating how a single piece of music can shift your viewpoint and challenge your expectations!

After achieving remarkable success with three albums that all secured top five spots on the UK Official Top 40 charts, Tom is poised to make an even bolder statement with his upcoming fourth album, titled “Everywhere I Went Led Me To Where I Didn’t Want To Be.” This highly anticipated release promises to explore a cutting-edge sound in pop. The electrifying track “Higher,” unveiled in September 2024, served as a thrilling sneak peek into Tom’s imminent musical evolution. While furthermore making it clear that he is not one to shy away from innovation. What particularly strikes me however, is the compelling resemblance between Tom’s latest offering “Shadowboxing” and DNCE‘s iconic debut hit “Cake By The Ocean.” In particular showcasing his ability to intertwine familiar influences with his unique artistic vision.

Collaborating with Justin Tranter as an album partner. Tom found a visionary who truly grasped his artistic intentions and the sonic influences he sought: George Michael, Prince, and Freddie Mercury. “A significant portion of the new music is undeniably uplifting—it compels you to dance and sing,” Tom states. This album is not just a collection of songs. It’s an empowering project about self-belief and the courage to embrace risks.

EMERGING ARTIST: MINOE https://eqmusicblog.com/emerging-artist-minoe/ Tue, 15 Aug 2023 10:44:38 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=34868 The talent of MINOE is undeniable and she is only just getting started. Her vocals are emotive and powerful, like a mix of Tove Lo & Dua Lipa

I was browsing through the new artist archive on the blog the other day and realised that I haven’t featured any Canadian pop newcomers lately. Bearing in mind the increasing number of blog submissions recently, I therefore decided a recap was in order, (and where I subsequently discovered that the last noteworthy Canadian act was Tate McRae!) Yet, with the Canadian music scene fostering so many talented pop artists, it feels like the perfect opportunity that a multi-talented newcomer such as MINOE should make her debut on the blog…

MINOE is rapidly making a name for herself with her music. The facts speak for themselves – her headline show in Toronto was sold out, and she has already had the privilege to open for Tom Grennan and Dadi Freyr. So far, her self-penned tracks “Cherry” and “Cut Me Loose” have garnered attention in Canada and across the pond. Yet it’s her latest release, “Hands,” that is undoubted to make waves worldwide. This is her sad girl anthem and it showcases MINOE’s ability to pour her heart out on the dancefloor. (“Hands” is the third single from MINOE’s upcoming EP “Bleeding Heart’s Disco“).

Listen on Apple Music

I must say, listening to “Hands” is an incredibly moving experience. Since the lyrics and melody perfectly emote the complexity and conflicting nature of relationships. From the beautiful parts to the unnerving bits. What’s even more impressive about this track – it is the crafting of an independent artist. It is evident MINOE has poured her heart and soul into this music, since this shows up in every note!

A standout from her debut EP “Bleeding Heart’s Disco.” “Hands” highlights her exceptional songwriting abilities. Blending sweeping melodies with a bombastic arrangement that gradually builds throughout the track. Foremost Minoe’s vocal style is slick and unforgettable, reminiscent of a blend between Tove Lo and Dua Lipa. Although notably it’s impressive that she has already earned airplay in the UK, particularly when bearing in mind she’s an emerging independent artist from overseas.

Watch “Good Ones” by Charli XCX https://eqmusicblog.com/watch-good-ones-by-charli-xcx/ Fri, 03 Sep 2021 09:27:52 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=30873 The hotness. Charli XCX has the pop world at her feet again. We can't cope with how good the freakishly dark and vampy "Good Ones" is...

Let me begin this review by saying I am glad I have two ears, as both were very much needed yesterday evening. I’ve never known an hour quite like it. New music, album and concert news from ABBA and that lengthy livestream that went along with it. And a new release from Charli XCX, “Good Ones” (which I was more interested in hearing. Just being honest).

The snippets Charli had been teasing online sounded so good. The final one had me super hyped and intrigued all at once. Why was Charli’s vocal’s giving off Marina-like vibes? I was, salivating and couldn’t wait to find out. (Sorry ABBA. Releasing new songs after 40 years is a big deal and all, but I ducked out on you. The livestream thingie went on too long). Future Sounds on Radio One with guest host Tom Grennan was the one for me. And where “Good Ones” received its first airplay, billed as “Hottest Record In The World“.

Listen on Apple Music

Tom cajoled some hot information from Charli that wasn’t included in the press release. Speaking with Tom, she said, “Good Ones” was “representative of her whole album” she currently has in the works. Revealing that “it leans in more with an 80s pop sound” and cited Janet Jackson and Cameo as sources of inspiration. (Listen to the full interview HERE).

In fact, when listening to “Good Ones” for the first time, I was picking up bits of Eurythmics and Lady Gaga in the melody in addition to the Marina-like vocals in the chorus from Charli. The Hannah Lux Davis music video is just full-on freakishly vampy. Much as you would expect me to describe it. When it features the singer dressed up as a sexy goth while dancing at a funeral ceremony. Shaking her booty in the graveyard and sprawled on top of a headstone and a coffin. They say grief can make you act out of character and do funny things. Seen here, Charli is immersed in the drama of the traumatic situation. The vibe is dark and sinister, but the track is hella hot. “Good Ones” is exactly, what I have been wanting to hear from Charli XCX. If there was an album pre-save link, she could have my money now.
