In today’s emerging artist spotlight, we introduce the incredibly talented artist, songwriter, and model Eden Hunter. Since the launch of her music career, she has been making significant waves. Especially so after being honoured as the 2022 Emerging Artist of the Year at Mighty Hoopla. Eden’s captivating lyrical pop has been winning over fans in droves. As her emotionally resonant songs connect on a universal level while showcasing a beautifully textured vocal quality that lays bare her vulnerabilities.

Eden has masterfully refined her craft while making a significant impact in the music industry in a remarkably short time. She has not only opened for major artists like Tom Grennan, Ella Eyre, Thomas Headon, James Smith, and Anna of the North. She has also established herself as a compelling new voice to watch. Now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived. The announcement of her highly anticipated debut EP, “The Circus Man,” set to release later this year. Leading up to this exciting debut, Eden introduces her first single, “Knock Me Out,” a polished pop anthem that delivers an empowering message sure to resonate with listeners.

Knock Me Out” is the first single of a new project that I have been trying to make for a long, long, long time. It is my love letter to Hollywood that I wrote during a trip to Los Angeles that truly changed my whole perspective of who I am and what I want”. Eden Shares

Listen on Apple Music

Every artist draws influence and inspiration from those who came before them. In the case of “Knock Me Out,” it seems that Eden may be channelling the iconic Madonna. (Particularly her hauntingly beautiful ballad “Frozen.”) The vocal stylings reveal striking similarities that are hard to ignore. It may not be a mere coincidence that Eden so poignantly leads into the chorus with the heartfelt plea, “Dear sweet Madonna, please don’t take this all away.” Seemingly, if true, this connection not only deepens the song’s emotional resonance but also pays homage to a pop legend.

Regarding the song’s theme, Eden states…

“I have always been somebody who indulges in the romance of life, the theatrics of the highs and lows and how main character it feels, which can be wonderful or it can be really heavy, hard to shake and distracting from what is actually happening to me. I owed myself honesty and the opportunity to heal and for some reason it felt easier allowing this to happen ‘across the Atlantic Ocean’ far away from anything or anyone I knew.”

Notably, Eden Hunter has swiftly and impressively refined her musical style. Thus showcasing a distinctive blend of catchy melodies and emotive lyrics. With the latest offering “Knock Me Out,” she stands on the cusp of a significant breakthrough, ready to captivate audiences and leave a lasting mark on the pop music scene. Above all, Hunter’s confident delivery and vibrant energy position her as an exciting and fresh talent, promising to shine brightly among the industry’s newcomers.

Uplifting pop music won’t be having a dry spell this summer, not if thisisNAMASTE has anything to with it. The Scottish singer-songwriter has a new track out, “I Like Your Face.” This is another addictive song to add to her growing repertoire of others, (which includes recent releases “Girl I Got You” and “I Can Do It“) and which are captivating from start to finish. She has proved many times she is also a pop artist who can be relied upon to bring out all the positive vibes. And like the ray of sunshine, she is, pours a load of warmth and light as endless as the sky on a summer’s day into this new track.

thisisNAMASTE a former backing vocalist for the likes of Rita Ora, Ella Eyre, Bebe Rexha and Martin Garrix, says of “I Like Your Face“…

“I wrote this song about the awkward stage at the very start of dating someone, where you overthink every text message, every phone call. What should I say, what shouldn’t I say, do they like me? etc. If we were all more, blunt and just said, I like your face, do you like mine? Then we’d cut out a lot of that awkward phase and get just to the point of knowing where we stand.”

And you know what, she is so right about that. What she has written the song about, is a magical time when we should be enjoying our butterflies in the stomach, feelings and having great fun. And, not allowing little niggles to mar our happiness, during the exciting getting to know one another phase.

This song is really cute in ways that I would (if I didn’t already know) question how thisisNAMASTE could possibly make it any cuter than it already is. She’s unleashed, a completely, adorable music video in support of the track. It is a sun-tinged performance video that wouldn’t look out of place on the New Gen’s favourite app VSCO. And we are giving you the first look at it (above).

From a song about analysing and trying to pick up on clues, there is no guesswork as far as thisisNAMASTE is concerned. We recognised a long time ago, she’s a pop artist who delivers great pop every time.

At the beginning of 2020, who could predict what an interesting (not always easy) few months laid ahead. While health and welfare have been at the forefront of our minds at this time. We have seen a healthy amount of music releases come through during recent months, that we at EQ have been inundated with submissions throughout. We are happy to let know the “This Beat Is Poptronik” playlist is updated once more. And feel confident the August 2020 edition, is brimming with lots of stellar pop, electronic and indie tracks to keep you uplifted until our next playlist update drops.

REMEMBER:  Subscribing to the “This Beat Is Poptronik,” playlists means there is no excuse not to enjoy and support electronic, pop, and indie music, be it from established or newly, emerging artists. To make things even simpler, we have started up “This Beat Is Poptronik” 2020 Archive Playlist which we will keep adding to (find it HERE)

AUGUST 2020
Who is featured…?

There are plenty of big pop releases from the usual suspects, i.e Lady Gaga x Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, Dua Lipa, Kylie, Kim Petras and Troye Sivan. They are joined this month by Tyler Glenn, Dannii Minogue, Jessie Ware, Kygo, Ella Henderson, Ella Eyre, Netta and JP Saxe.

Who you should have on your radar:

Believe it or not, while some of the major names in pop have rescheduled or pushed back releases because of not being able to promote live at this time. Emerging future pop stars are still cracking on with raising their profiles.

Isaac Dunbar is serving such major, cool vibes, with his dreamy genre-bending style. He’s quite possibly the next big thing in music, as far as we’re concerned. Be sure to check “makeup drawer” it is a particular favourite of ours.

The album “Surrender” has our eyes opened to Mickey Taylor, who is building a growing listenership with ambitious and frank pop songs about relationships and heartbreak. On the strength of this offering, he is clearly one to watch. You’ll find him on the playlist with the provocative track “D**K.”

Being lined up as the next big pop sensation to come out of Sweden, is Nea. She has written for artists like Zara Larsson (Lush Life”, “Don’t Worry Bout Me” & “TG4M), Tove Styrke, Tinie Tempah, ALMA and Axwell to name a few. A prospering solo pop career seems a safe bet.

Could Django Stewart be the latest newcomer about to cause some disruption, on the new music scene (in a good, way?.) It is hard not to mention the famous parents. Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and Siobhan Fahey (Bananarama & Shakespeares Sister.) Their pop prince has done, good, with his solo debut release “Burning Bridges.”

Please DO go and explore the playlist and discover a new favourite track and/or artist for yourself.

We’ll update you again on “This Beat Is Poptronik” news sometime soon.

Listen to “L.O.V.(e). by Ella Eyre https://eqmusicblog.com/listen-to-l-o-v-e-by-ella-eyre/ Wed, 13 May 2020 12:56:27 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=28359 Clearly, we need more solo releases from Ella Eyre. You can't keep us from vibing to "L.O.V.(e)." - track really pops. In fact, it is undeniably pop.

If truth be told, I am most used to hearing about Ella Eyre jumping on, a collaboration than unleashing her own tracks. I actually first learned about her when she peeped with some guest vocals for the Bastille mixtape series “Others People Heartache.” I guess I am more familiar with her being associated with big dance tracks such as “Just Got Paid” etc. Ella’s debut album “Feline” came out in 2015, which is quite some considerable time ago. Yet she is a well-known face on the live music and festival circuit.

Clearly, we need more releases from her, off of her own back, rather than team-ups. The excellent news is she has listened to her fans. Going forwards, Ella is releasing a series of tracks to be shared as a special gift to fans over the coming weeks. Beginning with “L.O.V.(e).” a massive fan favourite, a track which she has been performing live for years. As opposed to being dancey, this track really pops. In fact, it is undeniably pop. It just goes to show that the Eyreheads, know their own minds when it comes to good, pop. The taste!

Needless to say, I am well into this Ella Eyre track in particular. I feel the vibe is right, exactly what is needed to give us a euphoric, lift being as we can’t go out to shows and festivals right now. I know I NEED this kind of vibey connection, as a way to restore some balance in the transition into summer. Thank you Eyreheads for keeping on, asking when this one was going to get an official release. Believe me, if I could sing along to this from the rooftops I would, due to current restrictions, I’ll settle for the safety and comfort of my sofa, instead.

We are heading into the second half of this year, which signals festival season is here and there are plenty of summer songs rolling in. As tastemakers and pop aficionados who always have our eyes looking forward, it also means the search for emerging artists to watch, begins to hot up. Actually, I have a great pop singer to bring to your attention today. Among the mid-summer madness, trying to catch a break with her debut release “Exactly What You Want“, is Scottish singer thisisNAMASTE (Natasha Marie Stewart).

I have no hesitation saying this of the song. I am sure it will be on your lips in no time at all. It is particularly catchy, pure pop, with sweet lyrics about not trying to be ultimate relationship goals. thisisNAMASTE wants us to get real because no one is that perfect.

“This song is about me disclosing early on in a relationship that if you want me to be polished, and perfect all the time, that just isn’t going to happen, but if you want someone to hang out and have a lot of fun with, and don’t mind that same someone may potentially steal your food and clothes from time to time, then I’m the perfect girl for you! In the era of ‘#RelationshipGoals’ plastered across social media, I thought it would be fun to write a song with a light-hearted take on the realities of most people in a comfortable relationship.” thisisNAMASTE

This is the singer’s first time out on her own. Prior experience as a backing vocalist for the likes of Rita Ora, Ella Eyre, Bebe Rexha and Martin Garrix, means she is pretty much a made to measure pop star, ready to go slay. With this track co-written and produced by Adam Argyle, (Olly Murs, James Bay, Dua Lipa), and her confident, charismatic vocals as an indication of what she can do. And because the music is fresh, pure and intelligent. I think we would be best to keep a keen eye on her. There are good feelings within the music. Good feelings, in her potential. In fact, all around, good feelings, where pop newcomer thisisNAMASTE is concerned.

Considering how many up-and-coming female artists there are breaking out in the new music scene right now, the role of the powerhouse vocalist is not one that has been so heavily fulfilled over the past couple of years.

Artists like Jess Glynne, Kiesza, Ella Eyre, Becky Hill and BB Diamond are leading the pack of emerging new talent, ensuring that our disco nights will always happen with a big glittery moment of vocal empowerment.

Those ladies are not alone though in their command of the powerful dance led arena. As coming up through the ranks is the formidable KStewart, who you might already recognise as having MNEK on board for the production dibs on their 90’s focused dance pop creations together, such as the jam hot, dance floor blazer “Be Without You”.

Just recently prior to her performance at British Summer Time festival, we ceased the opportunity to quiz the lady herself about her journey so far as an emerging artist and her influences in music.

With a voice so rich in versatility and powerfully transcending in its full blooming capabilities there is no doubt in our minds KStewart is on-the-cusp of great things!

No-one can dispute the fact that alternative indie-pop band Bastille have pretty much been ranked up there as one of the most hard-working and performance giving acts of the past two years. Even before chart-topping single “Pompeii”, debut album “Bad Blood” and it’s subsequent re-package of “All This Bad Blood” made stratospheric impact the globe over, the indie-outfit worked their way up to the prominence they are reaping now by gigging and fashioning two mixtapes into the bargain titled “Other Peoples Heartache” Parts I & II.

The “Other Peoples Heartache” mixtapes served as a bridge to the arrival of the debut album and saw collaborations with other up and coming new artists such as Ella Eyre and Gabriel Aplin, upon re-invented cover songs, mostly of genre fused presentation.

Whilst the Bastille fandom eagerly awaits a sophomore album release, somehow the bands tremendous work schedule of putting together the new album and rigorously performing all over the globe has allowed them to return to the mixtape format and deal a third chapter of their collaborative musical experimentations – with the only difference this time out being, all 8 tracks are original Bastille material.

VS. “Other Peoples Heartache Part III”
Tracklisting:

1. Fall Into Your Arms (Bastille vs. The Gemma Sharples Quartet)
2. Bite Down (Bastille vs. HAIM)
3. bad_news (Bastille vs. MNEK)
4. The Driver
5. Axe To Grind (Bastille vs. Tyde vs. Rationale)
6. Torn Apart (Bastille vs. Grades vs. Lizzo)
7. Weapon (Bastille vs. Angel Haze vs. F*U*G*Z vs. Braque)
8. Remains (Bastille vs. Rag N Bone Man vs. Skunk Anansie)

Unlike the previous two mixtape predecessors that were given away as freebies, Part III will see a release through iTunes on 5th December and since it is being viewed as a mini-album it all kicks off with the introductory release of the Grades co-write and produced track “Torn Apart”.

For the emerging London based DJ and producer who has been on the hot-tip of a breakthrough now for a short time, collaborating with Bastille is a sure fire thing to reap that final push of recognition needed to see him go forth and be seen as established in his own right.

Almost a year ago Bastille cut from the promotion of “Bad Blood” to release their most uptempo pop-centric track todate “Of the Night” and in some way the forthcoming release of the Grades collaboration “Torn Apart” takes up upon this baton of uptempo club directed peppiness.

If “Torn Apart” which I regard as a popalooza of a new tune and quite honestly is better than most of what makes its way into the pop charts these days has made it’s way to the mixtape, I can only stand excited with the Bastille fandom as to what the sophomore album might be giving of.

Surely it must now be time for the unquestionably talented garage/soul singer Karen Harding to imprint a foothold on the music scene.

Since, it has been the case that Karen has been hovering around the point of making it, and previously brushed with the big time opportunities of firstly participating in group stages of Eurovision selection when she was just 18 and again reached the bootcamp stages of X Factor 2013.

Perseverance and determination all look set to pay dividends now as matured and learned of assistance from Grammy nominated, seasoned pop prodigy MNEK comes through via co-write duties and production on Karen’s stunning 90’s house debut “Say Something”.

Tastemakers like us here at EQ and the public alike are now beginning to recognise Karen’s vocally commanding performances might have the capabilities of possibly gravitating forth into the stratospheric realm comparable of Whitney Houston’s powerhouse vocal stature. Since it is the case that Karen impresses with her use of dynamics as much as she does with quality of performance and vocal range.

This year has seen much attention given to emerging female vocalists housed in the urban fused trajectory of dance based genre’s, coming through strongest from the likes of Kiesza, Jess Glynne and Ella Eyre. I am definitely of the opinion that on the strength of this debut alone Karen Harding will most probably be one of the hot new name’s on everyone’s lips come next year, in as much as she is currently the hot new name inked with Disclosure’s affiliated label Method Records.

Seriously, our final words on “Say Something” are simply – that is it all kinds of fully loaded delish and that we consider Karen Harding to be a future dance diva with staying power.

Here we have before us East London singer / songwriter Mainey who is currently in the throes of getting his music out there amongst us appreciative listeners of new artist talent.

Whilst the burgeoning pop artist has been working towards the unveiling today of debut track “Serious”, Mainey has reaped benefit by working with industry names, including golden boy MNEK, songwriter Toby Faulkner ( & yes, brother of Newton) along with Jerry Abbott notable producer and songwriter to Olly Murs, Ella Eyre and Ed Drewitt . It is Jerry who comes together with Mainey as they present “Serious”.

Streaming now is a Joyful noise consisting of urban cultured vocals and 80’s upbeat pop assisted funkiness. Bringing a taste of retro, yet given a thoroughly modern approach. With the basis of the song’s context formed of giving your loved one the benefit of the doubt. “Serious” is a track which comes across with an instant accessibility surrounding it, of the type that quite desires that it be snapped and put out to radio play.

Indeed, a confidently self-assured debut by a dynamically astute emerging artist who has the call of an impressively bright future, if the mass appealing debut is anything to go by.

Go Mainey. Go Mainey. Go Mainey. He’s not so much dissimilar in vocal likenesses to a young-blood Jay Sean and we’re up for listening and loving a ton more tracks like this from him!
