I am absolutely thrilled about this week’s standout release: “Je Ne Sais Quoi,” the debut track from London’s very own self-proclaimed “Pop Girlie Boy,” Stan Pratt. Now, I can already hear the questions: Doesn’t Kylie have a track with the same name? Is this a reimagining? The answer is a resounding no. Kylie recorded “Je ne sais pas pourquoi” for her iconic 1988 debut album “Kylie,” but these two tracks couldn’t be more different in sound and style. Kylie embodies that classic disco and dance-pop flair we all love, while Stan Pratt is here to push boundaries with his bold, maximalist pop infused with an alternative edge.

Interestingly, I see a parallel between Stan and the current alt-pop sensation Chloe Qisha, who holds a degree in psychology. Stan brings a unique twist of his own, boasting a degree in neuroscience. (Surprised? I certainly was!). This combination of academic prowess and musical talent is sure to create something truly unique.

Describing the debut offering “Je Ne Sais Quoi,” the song is playful and upbeat albeit notably brimming with a vibrant, cool and thought-provoking narrative, teeming with tongue-in-cheek lyricism.

“I wrote it about a certain category of male narcissist, and at the start of the song, I allude to the way he’s been shaped by his upbringing.” Though the track’s protagonist was “treasured like an angel from the skies”, he’s now “dancing with the devil just to bring you down a level” – in other words, precisely the kind of bad boy who’s tough to resist,” Stan explains.

Stan’s deep love for 80s synth-pop infuses his music with a nostalgic yet fresh vibe that truly resonates with me. While I’m not aware of him covering any of Kylie’s tracks. I can confidently say that his rendition of Bronski Beat’s “Smalltown Boy” is a must-listen (check it out here). It’s a brilliant interpretation that showcases his unique style!

When exploring new music and emerging artists, I always trust my instincts. In this case, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of excitement about Stan Pratt. I genuinely believe I’m in for the long haul with his sound. If you’re a fan of Charli XCX, MARINA, Alfie Templeman, or Conan Gray, then I have no doubt you’ll find yourself equally captivated by Stan Pratt.

Merely noticing this girlie collaboration on paper was enough to have me salivating for the “ATTENTION!” release day. After the summer of Kylie followed by the summer of Charli XCX, the successor the summer of Kesha is now undoubtedly in full swing. I’ll admit to not being fully switched on into Kesha mode until the recent arrival of “Boy Crazy“. And while it took me a little longer than most to jump back on the Kesha train, she had me at the mention of boys and certainly has me gripped even tighter, bringing on her upcoming “TiTS OUT” tour openers Slayyyter and Rose Gray. I mean, it’s just such a cool idea but also embodies the essence of love and connection Kesha is striving for in the new music and tour in equal measure.

It’s clear that the July 4th (Independence Day) release of the album – “.(PERIOD)” is not just a celebration; it’s a strategic move by Kesha to grab the spotlight with her “ATTENTION!” initiative. Equally exciting is the introduction of SMASH, a groundbreaking community platform designed for creators to connect, collaborate, and hire one another on their own terms. This innovative platform was co-founded by CEO Kesha Sebert, CTO Alan Cannistraro, and COO Lagan Sebert, showcasing a dynamic new era for creativity and collaboration.

Do I have your attention?, the track begins as Kesha roles out a list of evocative clickbait-style statements. Similarly followed by Slayyyter and Rose Gray each taking over a verse delivered in an introductory manner.

It does seem a bit odd that the collaboration isn’t listed on the “.(PERIOD)” album track list, but let’s not forget there’s always a chance for a deluxe edition! We can absolutely count on these artists to light up the stage during the tour with an unforgettable performance of this hit! Plus, it’s exciting to see Slayyyter and Rose Gray following in Tom Aspaul‘s footsteps as he recently opened for Kesha’s UK shows. Each of them is making waves as independent artists and gaining well-deserved recognition!

I’ve been on the edge of my seat, craving a fresh dose of her ethereal sound. Notably ever since she was announced as a supporting act for Kylie Minogue at her breathtaking Hyde Park headline show last year. When that moment came and went without new music to accompany it, I was left feeling a bit bewildered. The intrigue deepened when MARINA unveiled her collection of evocative poems, “Eat The World,” in October. Thus prompting even more questions about her next artistic move. Although she has alluded in 2024, to the promise of a sixth album. The silence surrounding its arrival has only heightened the excitement.

In reality, all it took for MARINA was a fleeting sound byte to cast an enchanting spell over me. No one quite embodies alt-pop like she does; her distinctive style has firmly etched her mark in the musical landscape. With her celestial voice, she continually evolves, bringing us fresh and captivating experiences that depart from her previous works. At the outset of her new track “Butterfly,” it feels predictably MARINA. Yet, as the chorus unfolds, she surprises us with an exhilarating twist—a child-like, manipulated vocal that brilliantly captures the essence of the butterfly.

The narrative of the song beautifully unfolds a tale of transformation and the reclamation of personal power. Invites listeners to embrace authenticity and pursue their ambitions. Noticeably, Marina has a remarkable gift for weaving fairytale-like elements into her music, and “Butterfly” is a shining testament to this enchanting style.

I have no shame in sharing with our blog readers, how I instantly burst into song every time Sophie Ellis-Bextor peeps up on my TV screen. Although, notably because in her advertisment for a well-known UK shopping catalogue brand. This being a joint collaborative promotion effort, where a short teaser of Sophie’s brilliant new single “Freedom of the Night” is used.

As an artist with seven studio albums to her name, it is fair to say Sophie Ellis-Bextor has quite a few memorably catchy songs in her expansive repertoire. Yet by the same token “Freedom of the Night” a Sophie, Biff Stannard (Kylie, JADE) and Shura collaboration with Chris Greatti (Willow Smith, The Dare) and David Wrench (Jamie XX, Hot Chip). Sees the endearing singer-songwriter reignite her spellbinding disco-pop presence.

Although the catchy allure of the track has proved inescapable with me. I nonetheless craved a look at the music video. Especially, since I heard Sophie mention, the concept for the new clip is a continuation of the “Murder on the Dancefloor” story. Once again, linking up with Sophie Muller. They replicate the central dance gala theme, but this time, Sophie assumes the role of mum. And it is her daughter competing in the competition. However, as the story unfolds we soon learn Sophie although, older hasn’t lost any of her ultra-competitive streak. As she results to devious measures to ensure her daughter comes away with the prize.

Also a lovely extra bit of trivia, for fact fans. The video is choreographed by Polly Bennett, who worked on the Amazon Prime movie “Saltburn.” The same that saw Sophie’s “Murder on the Dancefloor” gain resurgence with a notable sync in the comedy, thriller.

As noted during the pandemic and in her online Kitchen Disco series, live performances are paramount for Sophie. Indeed she notably goes from tour to tour and one festival to the next. With a new album on the way in 2025, it is similarly announced her biggest-ever UK headline tour takes place in May and June 2025. (including a headline show at London’s Royal Albert Hall).

Joining lead-in singles, “My Oh My,” “Dance Alone,” and “Midnight Ride.” Together with the recent The Blessed Madonna collaborative track “Edge of Saturday Night.” Kylie shares a new dance floor heater, “Lights Camera Action.”

Lately, more than ever, Kylie is doing everything in her power to keep her gay fans fed with new gag-worthy, pop realness and equally music videos exuding on-point eleganza. Undeniably “Lights Camera Action” oozes with both traits. The song sees Kylie resume vocal dominatrix mode via an especially cool and confident vocal performance. Of a magnitude definitely, comparable to the bar-raising anthem “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.”

Similarly, in the music video where popstar Kylie teams up with director Sophie Muller once more, and with especially evocative footage of Kylie shot in black and white. Sees Kylie assuming multiple roles in several ultra iconic guises. From photographer to film star Kylie is in front of the camera and behind it in this instant classic.

Ultimately the vibe “Lights Camera Action” gives off to me is that of a worthy fit for the runway segment of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Maybe too fanciful to think it, but a lip-synch battle… I am actually, sitting on my sofa here visualising the ferocity of the slut drop’s the queens could achieve in their bid to stay in the Drag Race competition. And what a beautiful daydream this is!

To tell the truth, I wouldn’t be lying if I said “Lights Camera Action,” is my personal favourite of these all new “Tension II” Kylie tracks.

I do hope that pop fans look up “7” the new album by Nelly Furtado. Namely because, being true to form Nelly keeps the listeners interest piqued, frequently switching between musical styles and genres. Indeed no one dares to explore an eclectic mix of soundscapes like her. Moreover, the reason why her tracks appeal to a multi-generational audience. There is always something fresh for the ears to hook into. Similarly with the two vastly contrasting album lead-in singles, “Lovebites” and “Corazón,” Nelly confirmed to the pop world she is back to slay once more. Therefore, it doesn’t surprise that the “7” album release day focus track “Honesty,” sees the global pop superstar flip into breezy, electro, dance-pop mode.

In fact, in “Honesty” Nelly completely clocks out with the global rhythms that heavily influenced the recent, single “Corazon.” Nevertheless, she is super keen to impress the sonic soundscapes prevalent in the present-day pop landscape. Moreover, showcasing her versatile vocal abilities across various musical styles. Collaborating with producer SG Lewis, she skillfully navigates between the influences of Kylie and Tove Lo, seamlessly showcasing the many facets of her vocal prowess. This diversity highlights the depth of her musical artistry. And that she makes it appear effortless how she flips between a sweet-honeyed voice in one track and a rap-spoken word style with ease in the next.

It is interesting to note upon release, “Honesty” is supported with visualiser in place of a full-flown video. Nevertheless, the clip is also a fascinating choice. Since the styling of it would not seem out of place if it were a Kylie music video. Similarly, it is precisely this point where I realised it isn’t obviously distinguishable that the track is by Nelly Furtado at all. Which is quite a change for Nelly as an artist who thrives on elevating pop using differing and eclectic styles. By the same token the track is still a stunning piece of irresistable dance-pop.

Maybe the idea here was not to cater to the whims of her loyal fans. But to merely grab the attention of a new pop audience. Because of the modern pop sound exuded in “Honesty” I commend the astute mindset that comes from being both GRAMMY award-winning and also an independent artist. The album “7” has much to offer to old and new fans alike.
