In the wake of her electrifying 2024 disco-infused hit “Freedom of The Night“. I was left with a palpable excitement, that it wouldn’t be long before Sophie Ellis-Bextor captivated us again. As she prepares to release her eighth studio album, this anticipation is especially high. Notably, it will serve as the follow-up to her 2023 project, “HANA.” Without a doubt fans are eager to see how she will evolve her sound and artistry in this new musical chapter.

Furthermore, the tail end of 2024 was an illustrious period for Sophie, “Freedom of The Night” was linked with a home catalogue shopping brand driven by a prominent TV advertisement, a Christmas campaign. Additionally, viewers on both sides of the Atlantic watched her welcome in the New Year. In the UK, she took the reins on a New Year Disco special. She also appeared at New York’s Times Square on New Year’s Eve on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve

Prepare for an unforgettable experience as 2025 heats up, with Sophie gearing up for her largest UK and Ireland headline tour yet this May and June. Don’t miss the chance to hear her captivating new song, “Relentless Love,” a shimmering testament to her artistry and passion.

Listen on Apple Music

Sophie says, “Relentless love” came from my love of fun fairs and the way that falling in love and going on a ride can be a similar thrill. Ferris wheels, roller coasters… all of them can make your perception of reality a little wonky and give you a rush. They are sometimes unpredictable but also an exciting way to shift your perspective for a little minute”.

As anticipated, Sophie collaborates with a talented team of songwriters and producers to bring “Relentless Love” to life. This track notably taps into the connection with Baz Kaye, also known for his work alongside Jessie Ware. “Relentless Love” captures the essence of Jessie’s classic disco sound, delivering an engaging experience. Furthermore, Sophie effortlessly crafts her own brand of nostalgic, retro-infused disco-pop, showcasing her undeniable talent for this genre.

I have no shame in sharing with our blog readers, how I instantly burst into song every time Sophie Ellis-Bextor peeps up on my TV screen. Although, notably because in her advertisment for a well-known UK shopping catalogue brand. This being a joint collaborative promotion effort, where a short teaser of Sophie’s brilliant new single “Freedom of the Night” is used.

As an artist with seven studio albums to her name, it is fair to say Sophie Ellis-Bextor has quite a few memorably catchy songs in her expansive repertoire. Yet by the same token “Freedom of the Night” a Sophie, Biff Stannard (Kylie, JADE) and Shura collaboration with Chris Greatti (Willow Smith, The Dare) and David Wrench (Jamie XX, Hot Chip). Sees the endearing singer-songwriter reignite her spellbinding disco-pop presence.

Listen on Apple Music

Although the catchy allure of the track has proved inescapable with me. I nonetheless craved a look at the music video. Especially, since I heard Sophie mention, the concept for the new clip is a continuation of the “Murder on the Dancefloor” story. Once again, linking up with Sophie Muller. They replicate the central dance gala theme, but this time, Sophie assumes the role of mum. And it is her daughter competing in the competition. However, as the story unfolds we soon learn Sophie although, older hasn’t lost any of her ultra-competitive streak. As she results to devious measures to ensure her daughter comes away with the prize.

Also a lovely extra bit of trivia, for fact fans. The video is choreographed by Polly Bennett, who worked on the Amazon Prime movie “Saltburn.” The same that saw Sophie’s “Murder on the Dancefloor” gain resurgence with a notable sync in the comedy, thriller.

As noted during the pandemic and in her online Kitchen Disco series, live performances are paramount for Sophie. Indeed she notably goes from tour to tour and one festival to the next. With a new album on the way in 2025, it is similarly announced her biggest-ever UK headline tour takes place in May and June 2025. (including a headline show at London’s Royal Albert Hall).

Tickets are available to purchase via artist and O2 presale at 9am on Wednesday 30th October. Ticketmaster and venue presale at 9am on Thursday 31st October. General sale begins at 9am on Friday 1st November.

Listen to “Next To You” by DECO https://eqmusicblog.com/listen-to-next-to-you-by-deco/ Wed, 31 Jul 2024 10:00:00 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=37365 From the upcoming album "Destination: I don't know," and ahead of tour DECO shares "Next To You" a track in the band's signature funkified 80s synth-pop style.

The post Listen to “Next To You” by DECO appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

Today, I’m excited to bring back the spotlight on DECO, the London-based viral pop band I introduced on the blog in 2022. With a rapidly growing fan base, DECO has secured coveted tour spots with pop elite acts like Tony Hadley, A-ha. Although most recently, they have performed with Nile Rodgers, CHIC, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Rick Astley, and Madness. Their music style is a vibrant blend of 80s, 90s, and 00s retro influences. Thus making DECO a must-listen for pop culture enthusiasts. Furthermore, every track they release is absolutely captivating and obsession-worthy. FACT!

DECO consistently delivers infectious pop hits. In fact, their YouTube channel is packed with original tracks and vibrant 80s, 90s, and 00s synth-pop-inspired covers and mash-ups. During the pandemic, the band cleverly maintained its growing public image by diving into these retro-inspired covers. Fortunately, the band’s concerns about losing traction during the pandemic were unfounded. Moreover, their cover tracks and mash-ups gained immense popularity, allowing them to seamlessly return to creating their original retro-style music once normalcy resumed.

The reward for their tenacity and determination is about to come to fruition with the release of their debut album “Destination: I Don’t Know,” out on 6th September. Which is preceded by the new focus single “Next To You,” a track in the band’s signature funkified 80s synth-pop style.

Listen on Apple Music

What’s not to like about DECO’s music when it’s upbeat and rhythmically strong, honed with hooks aplenty and extremely groovalicious. Once upon a time, many albums sounded similar to what this band is now producing. They have tapped into the retro sound of the 80s yesteryear and yet, by the same token, made a signature sound that is completely their own.

Speaking of nostalgia, what about this! The album “Destination: I Don’t Know” comes with a special magazine, inspired by the popular 80s music magazine ‘Smash Hits.” This magazine will feature Q&A interviews with the likes of Zoe Ball, Dawn French, Tom Kerridge, Hollywood Actress Kate Walsh & more; a motley crew all of whom have played a part in DECO’s journey so far as a band.

In the upcoming magazine, there is an exciting feature, a bonus edition of their debut album. This special edition includes the bands most popular ‘80s covers, which offer a fresh perspective on modern hits in the ‘80s style. Furthermore, these covers have gathered millions of views and are definitely worth checking out.

Watch “Ready For Your Love” by Felix Jaehn ft Sophie Ellis-Bextor https://eqmusicblog.com/watch-ready-for-your-love-by-felix-jaehn-ft-sophie-ellis-bextor/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 10:50:05 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=37249 Felix Jaehn and Sophie Ellis-Bextor have teamed up on the summer-ready anthem, "Ready For Your Love". Check out the video for empowering vibes.

The post Watch “Ready For Your Love” by Felix Jaehn ft Sophie Ellis-Bextor appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

]]>

I held back from posting about “Ready For Your Love.” The latest collaboration from German DJ/producer Felix Jaehn featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Notably, because I decided to wait for the music video to premiere. I felt it was a 50/50 gamble that the clip may feature Sophie in some way. Sometimes a little patience pays dividends. However, my tactical move of waiting did not work out this time. Alas, no Sophie or Felix, feature in the video. Yet, all is not lost. I still have the track to wax lyrical about and a music video that is stunning to watch.

It’s not unlike Sophie to team up with a DJ since she has done this frequently in her music career. Furthermore, it was the link up with the Italian DJ Spiller on the Italo disco-pop track “Groovejet” that brought Sophie to everyone’s notice in the first instance. In fact, I feel we’ve come to expect the release of at least one huge collaboration from her per year. Therefore, invited by multi-award-winning Felix Jaehn to provide vocals on the EDM summer-ready anthem “Ready For Your Love” is the perfect suitor for Sophie’s distinctive, bright, articulate singing voice.

Listen on Apple Music

Felix Jaehn is renowned as a global hitmaker with a long-standing reputation. Having collaborated and remixed for some of the biggest names in pop, he commands a significant presence in club and festival settings. These are just a few traits that Felix shares with Sophie. Moreover, it’s increasingly evident that they are destined to come together to create a dancefloor sensation.

At the beginning of this post, I initially expressed dismay about the absence of Sophie or Felix in the music video for “Ready For Your Love.” However, the video’s emphasis on showcasing the emerging talent of Derek Holloway (“Stupid Love” – Lady Gaga, The Greatest Showman – live promo), sends a powerful message. It encourages us to shift our focus from what’s missing to celebrating and supporting Derek’s remarkable skills in the dance world. Directed by Raw Souls (Amélie Sigmund & Julian Kleinert). The video provides a rare platform for Derek to display his talent to a wider audience. His captivating performance, in this video in challenging conditions like the scorching heat of Death Valley and amidst the vibrant atmosphere of a club. Truly highlights his exceptional abilities.

When the creative industries pull together to lift one another up, it is joyful to marvel at. So when we watch the “Ready For Your Love” video, let’s be mindful to celebrate with and support the skill of a rising talent in the dance world.

Are you feeling it too? – January can feel very long and dull. Am I right? But it’s great to know that we’re almost through it, and there’s a lot to look forward to in the coming months. I feel sure we all agree music is a great way to brighten up any day, and the past few months have seen some truly amazing releases. Therefore, it’s a good idea to take some time to appreciate the music that has helped us through the winter. And what better way to do that than listening to the newly curated “This Beat Is Poptronik 2024” playlist? Let’s turn up the volume and let some tunes lift our spirits!

This Beat is Poptronik 2024 playlist features…

We could hardly contain our excitement the other week when alt-pop’s Allie X unleashed the track “Off With Her Tits.” Not only is this song 100 per cent electronic (which makes us deliriously happy), with song lyrics powerful and thought-provoking, the song is without a doubt, the type of one-of-a-kind that only Allie X could bring to the table.

December is a difficult month to compete in, with the usual Christmas classics like Wham!, Pogues ft Kirsty McColl, Mariah Carey, and Michael Buble taking up their annual chart residence. At the time, it didn’t make sense why Olly Alexander (Years & Years) should release the track “A Very Bad Fun Idea” other than it being the title track from the upcoming movie “Bonus Track.” It’s bittersweet to note the song didn’t chart. Although, within a week of the track dropping we found out Olly is to represent the UK at Eurovision this year.

The whole debate about whether Ariana Grande sampled Madonna‘s “Vogue” or not became quite heated. However, in my opinion, she just channels the iconic song. But I do think that there is a clear tribute to Paula Abdul in the video. The video seems to be directly inspired by the one Abdul recorded in 1988 for her song “Cold Hearted“. It’s great to see present-day pop divas paying tribute to their peers. And that’s why “yes, and?” deserves to be highly placed on the “This Beat Is Poptronik 2024” playlist.

Whatever you do, you should not miss these gems from Nic Billington, Bright Light Bright Light, Margaret Berger, Dua Lipa, Oh Land, Samira and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Some emerging artists for your radar…

Classically trained artist Micah McLaurin switches it up. Takes a leap into the future with debut disco-pop anthem “MOONS.” Micah is the embodiment of living life authentically as he celebrates the song’s message of realizing the freedom to love. Since “MOONS” just got the remix treatment from Troye Sivan collaborator/RuPaul’s Drag Race songwriter and producer Leland. Therefore, concerning Micah, I feel it’s fair to say, watch this space…

In fact, it would be rather strange if Talia Mar were not one to watch out for in 2024. With her talent and versatility, she is sure to make a significant impact. I didn’t really connect with the debut singles a lot simply because they didn’t appeal to me style-wise. However, the latest release, “Bored“, hones a noughties banger aesthetic that in my opinion gives off Sugababes vibes.

Tsatsamis is an emerging electronic artist who exhibits a unique sound and style. It is a good idea to have him on your radar. Especially bearing in mind a sophomore EP, “Our Shame“, is out soon. In the meantime, however, I highly recommend checking out the recent releases, “Everybody Wants a Piece of You” and “Let Go.” A rising star in electronic music, Tsatsamis utilizes a style both distinctive and unique, inspired by queer culture and sexual identity. He also just remixed the track “You Want My...” for Bright Light Bright Light. Similarly, with such a fantastic endorsement from Rod (he has impeccable taste,) we know we are doing right by backing Tsatsamis.

Keep looking in at EQ Music Blog for “This Beat Is Poptronik” Playlist updates throughout 2024. In the meantime, we wish you many hours of happy listening to the tracks we have curated on Spotify HERE.

Have you ever experienced a week that felt like an eternity? Coincidently, that’s exactly how I felt last week. Not because of Blue Monday, but all because I was eagerly anticipating the release of the latest song from Bright Light Bright Light, “You Want My…“. Although I usually jump right in with a blog post. On this occasion I decided to wait for the music video instead. Those seven days felt like an entire month, but finally, the video was released on Friday. I never realized how much a simple music video release could impact me. It goes to prove that sometimes, the little things in life can make all the difference.

I was able to maintain a positive attitude throughout those long seven days. I had unwavering confidence in Rod’s previous videos, which I have found to be enjoyable. These played a significant role in keeping my spirits high. At the risk of exposing myself as being so heterosexual. so dramatic. My perseverance has paid off, and it’s fantastic to see that my patience is rewarded with a super fun visual homage to the previous BLBL albums, directed by Tyler Milliron for Milliron Studios.

Listen on Apple Music

I find it interesting that the clip revisits all of the BLBL album sleeves. Likewise, it’s also cool that Rod and Tyler have included some nods to other artists’ albums that have inspired Rod’s artistic music journey. I think it’s important to fully understand the idea behind this release. The track is a collaboration, written with Ian Masterson, (Pet Shop Boys, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Dannii Minogue and Bananarama). The music is very reminiscent of both the Pet Shop Boys and George Michael, which fits suitably well with the homage theme. Whereas the lyrical concept addresses sexual dynamics and taking back control.

Tick tock, tick tock, buzz, buzz, our alarm just went off… Is it already time to update the “This Beat Is Poptronik” playlist again? It feels like only yesterday we were adding new tracks to the March update. But, as always, we’ve got you covered with the latest and greatest pop hits. We appreciate you’re all busy bees and understand if a killer track or two may have escaped your ears. Therefore, we’ve curated this playlist just for you. With “This Beat Is Poptronik playlist – June 2023,” you’ll never miss a beat. It’s the perfect playlist to download and jam out to on-the-go. So turn up the volume and tune out the rest of the world. Are you ready? Let’s go!

June 2023 features…

There are no prizes for guessing what track has “Padam Padam“(ed) on its way to the opening slot of the June playlist. Needless to say, the one and only Aussie pop Princess Kylie Minogue takes up residence at the top spot in what is her first appearance of three features in this update. You can also catch her amazing vocals on “Voices” with Jake Shears and “10 out of 10” with Oliver Heldens.

Also of note and steaming its way into the playlist is the seismic collaboration of Sam Smith and Madonna, they really go all in on their statement pop piece “Vulgar.” An especially fitting anthem for those who celebrate their individuality through self-expression.

Following her victory at Eurovision, Loreen has more than earned her spot on the place playlist with the wholly captivating winning song “Tattoo.”

Whatever you do, you should not miss these gems from Alison Goldfrapp, Georgia, Bright Light Bright Light, Tia Kofi, MUNA, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Romy.

Some emerging artists for your radar:

I’ve been following Rose Gray‘s career for a while now, and her recent track “Ecstasy” really caught my attention. Her music has always been great, but this new release just has that extra something special that makes it stand out. And now with “Happiness,” she’s done it again – combining dancefloor-friendly beats with pop sensibility to create a track that’s impossible not to love.

Lunar June treads a path of sonic bliss with her dreamy electronic pop reawakening. The debut EP, “jaded/faded,” is evidence of Lunar’s prodigious talent and great potential. Further, affirming that the music she is currently making has much to enthral.

It is rare for a newcomer to hold nothing back. And ALF clearly knows what he wants to convey in his songs. There is a great deal of lyrical bite embodied in lines like “Letting you just rip me apart to fill my heart’s void, You’re killing me.” In terms of music, this track packs a notable punch. Yet, the vocals are suitably endearing. Undoubtedly he comes into his element when song-writing. In any event, I fully expect ALF to gain momentum.

Gabi Goldman is a talented musician with an absolutely magnetic voice. Her debut track, “Body Heat,” is a shimmering masterpiece that will inevitably catch the attention of anyone who loves lush, gorgeous pop music with meaningful lyrics.

Feel free to explore “This Beat Is Poptronik playlist June 2023” at your own pace. You never know, you may just stumble upon your new favourite track or artist! If you enjoy the poptronik playlist, why not tell your friends about it? It would mean the world to us if you could nudge them in the direction of subscribing too. Watch “It’s Euphoric” by Georgia https://eqmusicblog.com/watch-its-euphoric-by-georgia/ Thu, 30 Mar 2023 07:32:04 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=33827 New from Georgia. "It's Euphoric," adopts a dreamier style, but the rhythmicality is still such that the song has a move-your-body vibe.

The post Watch “It’s Euphoric” by Georgia appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

]]>

Just look at that beaming smile in her new press photo. She’s so excited about her new music. I must say, I’m equally delighted Georgia kicked off a new era with the first play of “It’s Euphoric” on Radio 1 last night. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve tuned in for any hottest Record in the World premieres. In the last week, Georgia began teasing the track, raising my suspicions. As part of the run-up to the “It’s Euphoric” first play, she was also announced to perform at Radio 1 Big Weekend. The hint could not have been any more enormous that the new music would debut with Radio 1.

As wonderful as Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her myriad of Kitchen Discos were during the long days and nights of the pandemic, equally Georgia’s prominent live streaming lifted my spirits. The similar feel-good aesthetic she has chosen for her forthcoming album “Euphoric” on Domino Record Co., set to go on sale on 28th July, is also pleasing to me.

Listen on Apple Music

For these new tracks, Georgia wanted to have a collaborative experience. So for the first time, she worked with another producer (RostamHaim and Carly Rae Jepsen) on her new material. The first peek, “It’s Euphoric,” sounds noticeably dreamy compared to the energetic dance-pop style of the sophomore album “Seeking Thrills“. Yet, by the same token, the rhythmicality is such that the song exhibits move-your-body-around-the-dancefloor vibes all the same.

In the Fa & Fon directed video, the creative duo have taken Georgia out of her comfort zone. Instead of a club or festival setting, a 400m race track is where we find Georgia. For her, this is a different type of adrenaline-fueled arena. Although, the energy and feeling of euphoria in this environment are sure to transcend even further.

Pre-order the album “Euphoric” from Georgia’s store (here) before 12pm today for pre-sale access to an exclusive intimate show at London’s Omeara on 20th April.
