I firmly believe that no other music artists create music videos quite like Autoheart. Their visuals are not just complements to their music; they are spectacular showcases of creativity in their own right. Above all, rather than stepping in front of the camera, Autoheart cleverly collaborates with other artists to convey their thought-provoking and poignant commentaries on life. Take “Indigo Chateau,” the third track from their upcoming album “Heartlands.” This mesmerizing visual journey, the indie band’s most surreal and captivating video to date, is the result of their recurring collaboration with Joseph Wilson.

The track “Indigo Chateau” marks a bold return for the band, showcasing their signature anthemic musicality that stirs the soul. All in all, this piece serves as a heartfelt anthem for the outsiders—the misfits, the imperfect, the crooked, and the cracked—who find beauty and vibrancy in their uniqueness.

Listen on Apple Music

Written as a response to an increasingly indifferent and hostile cultural landscape, the album opener not only sets the tone for the entire record but also challenges listeners to embrace their individuality. The song is complemented by a striking visual aesthetic that is as captivating as it is thought-provoking. Moreover, drawing the audience into a world where authenticity thrives and conformity is left behind. And seen through the guise of a dystopian dog pound. Through this powerful combination of sound and vision, “Indigo Chateau” invites listeners to celebrate their true selves and confront a society that often marginalises those who dare to stand out. Similarly to the main character in the clip, who refuses to play along, furthermore, in doing so, starts to wake the others up to just how absurd it all is.

Ultimately, as the lyrical narrative unfolds, the visual aesthetic becomes increasingly cohesive. Thus captivating your attention and sparking intrigue, especially if you approach it without prior context. Autoheart has always relished the challenge of giving our grey matter a workout. However, with “Indigo Chateau,” they have truly surpassed themselves. They deliver a compelling and thought-provoking experience that poignantly lingers long after viewing.

I had eagerly anticipated the recent release of the recent Autoheart track “Sad Divide,” and they certainly did not disappoint. Furthermore, this LGBTQIA+ alt-pop outfit is following up the exciting momentum with the announcement of their highly anticipated fourth studio album, “Heartlands“. (Set to drop on August 15th via their own O/R Records through AWAL). In addition to this thrilling news, they’ve also unveiled plans for an extensive North American tour kicking off on September 5th. And for their devoted UK “Heartheads,” there’s no need to worry—the band has just revealed three UK dates!

Amid a flurry of exhilarating new updates, Autoheart is thrilled to unveil “Baby Bird,” the second single from the highly anticipated album “Heartlands.” This alt-pop anthem radiates infectious energy, featuring a driving beat and soaring melodies that create an atmosphere of empowerment and joy. Lyrically, it delves into themes of resilience and self-discovery. And furthermore, maintains the profound depth and introspection that fans of the band have come to cherish.

Listen on Apple Music

Speaking about the single, the band explain: “’Baby Bird’ is about surviving yourself. It’s about learning not to fear the fall – or even if you do, doing it anyway – and trusting that even if you f*** it up, given time, you’ll find your way again.”

In these new songs, the band masterfully showcases their lyrical vulnerability, creating a powerful connection with listeners. Their emotive songwriting radiates a profound sense of melancholy, resulting in an intricately composed listening experience. Yet, Autoheart has returned with an exhilarating sound that breathes fresh energy into their music. Thus propelling them to a thrilling new peak in their career.

I can always count on Autoheart to fill my ears with earworm-worthy melodies and heart-pounding harmonies. With “Baby Bird,” I find that the musical styling of this track aligns particularly well with the distinctive and ethereal qualities of MARINA‘s work. Moreover, featuring shimmering synths and poignant lyrics that explore themes of vulnerability and self-discovery. However, I recognize that my comparison may be wide of the mark. Since Autoheart has a unique flair that sets them apart in the indie pop landscape.

haring some insight on “Heartlands,” Autoheart guitarist Barney JC. says…

“This time, we’ve worn our influences on our sleeves—R.E.M., Alanis, Tori, Sheryl… and British bands like The Cure, Tears for Fears, Eurythmics. There’s another world too: indie artists like Ani DiFranco, Liz Phair, Kristin Hersh—outsiders like us.

I want to draw your attention to the fantastic news that the indie-pop trio Autoheart has released new music! With the announcement of their highly anticipated fourth album, “Heartlands,” they have shared the lead single “Sad Divide.” This title perfectly embodies the signature melancholy that Autoheart fans adore. It’s a powerful track that holds the potential to resonate deeply and become a standout hit.

I truly appreciate Autoheart’s lyrical dialogues. They effectively highlight important topics with eloquence, using their voice to facilitate meaningful conversations through their thoughtful social commentary. Their willingness to engage in difficult discussions is commendable, as they thoughtfully share their informed insights and perspectives. This approach fosters understanding and invites others to join in the dialogue.

“We wanted to capture that feeling of trying to bridge a gap that feels impossible to cross,” says lead vocalist Jody Gadsden, on the latest track “Sad Divide.”

Listen on Apple Music

The narratives they present consistently offer a captivating perspective. In “Sad Divide,” the lyrics strikingly juxtapose the theme of connection against the backdrop of emotional distance. This thought-provoking exploration unfolds in depth, as they skillfully employ various similes to unveil a fresh understanding of the song’s message.

The artwork and accompanying video is Autoheart’s first collaboration with animator, illustrator and musician Alex Benson, creator of the viral Dang project which the band are fans of – more on which is to come…

Sad Divide” heralds the arrival of “Heartlands“, an album deeply influenced by the band’s transformative journey across the USA during their recent sell-out tour. This release transcends mere homage to the remarkable landmarks they experienced; it is crafted with love for their devoted fans, the “heartheads.” It serves as an evocative reflection of America, capturing both its vibrant reality and the dreams that shape it.

Stay tuned for exciting updates about Autoheart, as I strongly suspect that a wave of fresh music releases is just around the corner. Additionally, I’m eagerly hoping for the announcement of live performance dates. Let’s keep our eyes peeled for those thrilling announcements!

Watch “Juggernaut” by Autoheart https://eqmusicblog.com/watch-juggernaut-by-autoheart/ Thu, 24 Aug 2023 11:11:29 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=34928 By Autoheart, a band known for writing genuine, honest songs. "Juggernaut" is a beautiful tribute to love, loss, and endearing love.

Have you heard the latest news from Autoheart? On Friday, the esteemed indie-pop band released a new music masterpiece called “Juggernaut“. This is the first new music they’ve released since their 2021 album “Hellbent” and “Time Machine” EP. In characteristic Autoheart style, the band fell somewhat quiet online for some time. However, they recently informed their fans and followers they were working with Danton Supple, producer of their 2013 debut album “Punch“. Coincidentally, “Punch” celebrates its 10th-anniversary release this year. All-in-all, Autoheart’s social media has been ablaze this week with news of the latest release.

What I and many fans have noticed about “Juggernaut” is that it stylistically recreates something of the exquisite “Punch” sound. They recreate thus by using delicately pulsing synths overlayed with rich, heartfelt vocals. As I am aware because of being familiar with them, the band is recognised for really going there with their lyrics. In this respect “Juggernaut” aligns with the trend, as it shares a story about grief, loss and endearing love.

Listen on Apple Music

The music videos from this band are quite unique as the band members themselves, famously do not make an appearance in them. Despite this, the videos are always fascinating to watch. In their latest video, directed by Joseph Wilson who also directed “I Know That He Loves Me“. The drag artist Fancy Shews! takes on the lead role of a grieving widow who is determined to give her late partner a touching and memorable final farewell. The video takes us on a journey through some of the couple’s favourite entertainment spots in glorious Margate. It is truly a beautiful tribute to love, loss and endearing love.

Regarding the track “Juggernaut.” It seems like there’s some confusion about whether this is a standalone release or if it might be part of a new album. Apparently, Danton Supple didn’t collaborate with them on this one. (Autoheart self-produced it, which is interesting.) However, they did share they’re gearing up for something bigger. I saw in an Instagram post that they’re planning a US tour for March next year and are asking for suggestions on where to play.

I feel it likely UK and Europe dates will also be considered. Therefore, if we all stream and watch “Juggernaut,” repeatedly and shout out about this release, then perhaps we’ll encourage them to share some further details of music and touring plans soon.

I was so happy to notice a new video from Autoheart premiered on YouTube on Friday. Some weeks ago, as a matter of fact, the band gave out a little tease on the track “Time Machine” from last year’s “hellbent” album. Hinting via social media that they went to Scotland to shoot a video. At the beginning of last week came the announcement of a release date not only for the video, but also for an EP release. Which came out of the blue. Aside from the title track, the Time Machine” EP gives us an additional three new songs to bask in “Scorpio“, “If Only in the Night,” and “London in July“.

I noted previously in posts, Autoheart never gives away too much about the finer details of their lyrical narratives. Their preference is that listeners come up with their own interpretations. For this reason, we are urged to pay close attention to the unfolding stories and narratives that run through each new track. Autoheart’s signature trait of candid songwriting style is, at its core, powerfully descriptive and deeply touching. This EP excels in both strengths.

Listen on Apple Music

The band’s observations on love and relationships have never felt more moving than on these four soul-stirring tracks. Whenever I listen to their music. I find that my mind switches on and immediately brings me into the situations they are addressing. In the same way, there is plenty to contemplate on the “Time Machine” EP. As an illustration, struggle around living authentically and soul-searching. Jealousy and toxicity. Love and yearning. Desire and vulnerability. As far as I gather, these being the topics seemingly raised in this release.

Feeling it is a profound track. The band put the effort in to create a music video for their song “Time Machine“. The Siri Rodnes‘ video clip tells a story that leaves room for interpretation. In my evaluation, I view the clip as detailing the scenario of a young guy attending a family outing. The chap shows no interest in the occasion. Yet, however, feels duty-bound to attend. As such, the guy turned up in their body while not fully present in this situation. Instead, caught up in an alternative daydream. They are seen as being alive and vibrant, living every moment to the fullest.

There is every possibility this video will draw up different conclusions for everyone.

Check the clip. Decipher the cryptic messages. Above all, while not forgetting there are three more gorgeous pop gems awaiting you on the “Time Machine” EP (HERE)

Watch “Hellbent” by Autoheart feat Keziah Black Gold Buffalo https://eqmusicblog.com/watch-hellbent-by-autoheart-feat-keziah-black-gold-buffalo/ Wed, 03 Nov 2021 12:07:28 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=31166 "Hellbent" by Autoheart is the only new album release we've been interested in wrapping our ears around lately.

Readers of the blog can probably guess. I wasn’t too bothered about checking out the new Ed Sheeran album as soon as it dropped on Friday. There was another album release I was super keen to wrap my ears around, though. London indie-pop band Autoheart unleashed “Hellbent,” their third studio album. I mentioned it was on the way. After covering, the stunning Joseph Wilson directed video for the lead single “I Know That He Loves Me” on the blog the other week. I also had a feeling the band would put another track out on album release day. They lived up to expectations, obliging with the title track “Hellbent“.

I know this band are consistently good. The lyrics will be compelling and give me plenty to think about. I will love how acoustic notes blend with electronic ones. And I just love, love, love everything about Jody Gadsden’s mesmerising vocal. That is pretty much a brief summary of what “Hellbent” the album is. You must do yourselves a big favour and check it out. The title track is a collab with the singer Keziah (Stillwell) of the new wave/dark-pop band Black Gold Buffalo. “Hellbent” (the single) has a nice, funky, danceable pop groove. With a space disco kind of feel about it. It takes Autoheart out of their comfort zone but not so much that they are unrecognisable. There are markers slapped all over it. Intricacies and quirks that leave me with no doubt in my mind it is Autoheart.

Listen on Apple Music

The music has a sleek cross-over pop vibe. Once more, the music video is a treat for the eyes. The band have linked up with the artist and animator Aspen Tart. They struck up a connection with the band when putting out some animated visuals for the band’s track “Hungover in the City of Dust.” And provided the cover art for the 2019 single “Wretch“. The animation made for “Hellbent” throws up lots of questions, what the track is about? Here’s my theory. In addition to the use of storytelling, obviously. The colours used in the clip suggest it could be discussing gender fluidity. As I see all the colours that make up the genderfluid flag. I wonder if I am close with my theory or wide of the mark?…

Leave your comments on the video on YouTube. The band are waiting to hear your theories on it.

"I Know That He Loves Me" by Autoheart is one of strong, visual aesthetics & standout queer storytelling

The post Watch “I Know That He Loves Me” by Autoheart appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

]]>

This was a good spot if, I DO say so myself. London-based indie-pop group Autoheart dropped “I Know That He Loves Me“, on Adele New Music Friday. The track is the first taste of their third studio album, “hellbent“. And, it looks like the band are going with their plan of releasing this album on the 29th, October. Which isn’t very long to wait, is it? I for, one, am very hyped at the news. More gorgeous Autoheart songs are on the way. I know without hesitation these will be worth the wait. And will also undoubtedly be very, special pieces of music, as always is the way with them.

But there is more… they also unleashed a stunning music video for the new track. (Another, because all of Autoheart’s music videos are beautiful art forms in themselves). Directed by Joseph Wilson, the clip focuses on strong visual storytelling. A young man is attempting to make sense of his feelings. Yet is confused and torn by having being raised on the teachings of religion. Confliction arises when coming into contact with sources of discrimination, and attempts at brainwashing and propaganda take hold. His soul is troubled, but he is strong of self-worth. He looks to the light and makes his way in life the best he can.

Listen on Apple Music

“I’ve been caught up in a whirlwind, I’ve been living in a dream. And, I’m losing all perspective nothing’s ever what it seems. But I know that he loves me, I know that he loves me back.” (lyrics)

The song narrative and the candid, almost poetic lyricism, contained within are of the high standard they always meet. This is why I am always happy to wait for new music from the band. They are consistently good. When I am writing about them. They make me really think about the subject at hand on a psychological level. No other band does this to me, but Autoheart does. I have listened to and watched the track multiple times, absorbed a lot from it. Wow, do I feel, enriched. I cannot imagine the feelings that will surge through me when the album drops. I know listening to what Jody, Barney, and Simon have to say. Will only help me have a greater understanding as an LGBTQ ally and become a better human being, though.

If anyone knows of a more beautiful track out right now than “Wretch” by Autoheart, I am begging of them to allow me to first, take a listen. The London indie-pop trio of Simon Neilson, Jody Gadsden and Barney JC. Have broken free from the recording studio, where they spent much of 2019, to give us a present in the way of new track “Wretch.” The track arrived on the last official New Music Friday release date of the year. The new release serves as an exemplary reminder of Autoheart’s abilities for stunning, song crafting. While the latest track is stripped, to an acoustic level, it is still a match of any other of its predecessors.

The song took it’s time to arrive, but was definitely worth the year, plus wait. As while Autoheart has been in existence for a considerable number of years now, their output never deviates for a moment from being the sum of blissful, gorgeousness. On “Wretch” the melody rocks gently. If I could think of Jody’s voice as a taste, I would describe it as the sweetest nectar imaginable. I am sure of it.

The openly honest lyrics of the song, raise awareness around mental wellbeing. Of what is like to become confused and lost in our thoughts. When the funked off mood doesn’t lift, regardless of making attempts to break free from its grip. Of feeling entrapped as though caught up in a maze, where every path seems to lead to a dead end. These situations evoke feelings of anxiety, breed a sense of melancholy, and leave us sad and disheartened. It is in times like these that we reach out for strength and support. “Wretch” by Autoheart is a tortured soul’s, cry for help. The words and Jody’s lucid, affecting voice have a calming influence among the swelling storm of emotions. The track transcends like poetry, in fact. With this song, the band have turned a difficult experience and the state of vulnerability into something beautiful. As well as being available on the usual digital platforms, “Wretch” can also be downloaded at Bandcamp, in exchange for a name your price donation. Further cause for celebration. The band has shared the news that three more tracks and videos will be winging their way to us early in the New Year.

2020 is exciting times for Autoheart fans and for those who purely enjoy powerfully spellbinding indie-pop songs.

Eurovision 2019: Watch “Arcade” by Duncan Laurence https://eqmusicblog.com/eurovision-2019-watch-arcade-duncan-laurence/ Fri, 10 May 2019 08:40:00 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=26558 A big surprise from The Netherlands at Eurovision this year. Heat is growing on "Arcade" by Duncan Laurence, the public feel it in as big a way as we do.

The post Eurovision 2019: Watch “Arcade” by Duncan Laurence appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

]]>
I am aware “Arcade” has surfaced as the current bookmakers favourite to win Eurovision this year. I don’t pay too much attention to these polls though. When I have big feelings about music or a song, in particular, it has to come purely from my gut, that I write and share my thoughts about them. My own Eurovision journey began weeks ago. As the finalists from each country began to file in. I have since been taking stock of every new happening with a close eye and ear. Breakfast talk in my house between my son and myself has flipped from chats about Lewis Capaldi’s latest Instagram videos to banter about this year’s potential Eurovision winner. The first-morning brew consumed while listening to all participants latest performances.

My son and I have watched each other’s reactions to these Eurovision songs from across our tiny but cosy living room space. We are now really familiar with all the songs. Sometimes as we are listening I might be scrolling my social media timelines on my phone. The truth is there has not been one solitary occasion when I haven’t stopped in my tracks and looked up at the TV screen when Duncan Laurence of The Netherlands performs “Arcade.” It has become such an instinctive and natural reaction that I don’t realise I am doing it any more.

The song is very vocally driven. The instrumental elements of it are suitably pared back. I find striking similarities between the timbre of Duncan Laurence’s vocal with that of Jody Gadsden, the lead singer of Autoheart. Being honest, it is this comparison which has become firmly wedged inside my head and has helped me feel every emotion in this song, even more strongly. “Arcade” is a big surprise from The Netherlands.

Duncan says of the song…

“Since “Arcade” I’ve written many songs, but somehow “Arcade” feels like the centre of all of them. It started my journey to wanting to write songs that can really mean something to people.” (extract taken from eurovision.tv)

Judging by the growing heat on the track, the public at large is getting it in as big a way as I do. I have watched the ESC all of my years but I have never felt so moved by any single one entry before, as I do this song. I will be an emotional wreck if “Arcade” does win Eurovision.
