The Aces have kept us eagerly anticipating the follow-up to their irresistible track “Jealous,” released back in December 2024. But what’s behind the suspense? It turns out they’ve been sitting on a thrilling secret. Their highly anticipated fourth album, “Gold Star Baby,” arrives on August 15 via SoundOn. Since embracing their independence, the band has radiated a newfound confidence that builds beautifully upon the success of their 2023 album, “I’ve Loved You For So Long.” This upcoming release promises to be a vibrant celebration of queerness and pure pop joy. And notably represents not just an evolution for the quartet but a true reflection of the artistic journey they’ve been on all along.

As the August 15th release date of their album draws near, the band has unveiled a captivating new focus track titled “You Got Me.” In brief, this song not only underscores their ascent in the pop music landscape but also resonates powerfully during Pride celebrations. With a vibrant and infectious melody, “You Got Me” features impressive guitar work that adds depth and texture. The track is further elevated by lush, sugary synths, creating an irresistible sound that leaves a lasting impression.

Listen on Apple Music

The band shares: This song is about that short and sweet period of time when you realize you’re in love but you’re not sure how to tell them. We wanted it to sound like the feeling of falling in love; warm, shimmery, bouncy and a little bit of nerves.”

In 2025, The Aces burst onto the scene, radiating a newfound sense of liberation and confidence. With a successful self-released album already behind them, they approach their next project with a refreshing fearlessness, unshaken by uncertainties. Indeed, they are thriving.

In 2024, they signifricantly electrified the stage as the opening act for Chappell Roan at the vibrant Kentucky Pride festival. Thus connecting with fans and celebrating inclusivity in an unforgettable performance. This summer, they are set to make waves at Summerfest. A celebrated music festival in Milwaukee, where they will open for rising star Benson Boone, showcasing their talent to an even wider audience. Above all solidifying their place in the evolving landscape of pop music.

Be sure to pre-save the album “Gold Star Baby” and join in on this exciting chapter!

After a captivating and charismatic performance at the EQ Music new artist showcase last year. I have been eagerly anticipating the follow-up music releases from the exceptionally talented independent pop multi-hyphenate Emmett Daly. Recognizing that Emmett balances his passionate pursuit of music alongside a demanding career as a doctor. It was clear that the period of waiting for new music would be an inevitable yet worthwhile journey. Simply because the performance at our EQ Music showcase was a testament to his stellar command of musicianship. Moreover, showcasing his unique blend of pop sensibilities and emotive lyrics. Above all, I had no doubt that when the day arrived for his new music release, it would, not only meet but exceed my expectations. Thus proving that the wait was indeed worth every moment.

Following an electrifying guest appearance with Una Healy (formerly of The Saturdays and his mentor from The Voice of Ireland) at the Mighty Hoopla in May. Where they enthralled audiences with their duet of “The Giver,” the latest track by Chappell Roan, Emmett saw a golden opportunity to reignite his music career. This moment not only elevated his profile but also set the stage for a powerful reconnection with his artistry thus fuelling anticipation for “Pharaoh,” Emmett’s highly anticipated first release of 2025.

Listen on Apple Music

This captivating track thrives on a haunting soundscape that amplifies the brooding atmosphere established in his 2024 release, “Cold Fire.” In “Pharaoh,” Emmett masterfully showcases his poetic lyrical prowess, overflowing with vivid imagery and deep emotion. The narrative reveals his intent to shield himself from the anguish inflicted by a lover’s betrayal. He perceives a troubling entanglement that threatens their relationship’s integrity, and Emmett is resolute in his commitment to protect himself from the fallout of such dishonourable behaviour.

“Darling you lost your halo. So please keep away. Cuz I’m guarding my heart like a pharaoh and now you know, yeah you know.”

In his stunning directorial debut, Emmett captivates audiences with his debut music video. He embraces a cinematic aesthetic that immerses viewers in a vast desert landscape. As he navigates this poignant setting, Emmett delves deep into his struggles, emerging from the experience with newfound strength and wisdom. The clip is equally visually epic as it is masterfully impressive. It begs the question is there anything Emmett cannot turn his hand to? Make no mistake, Emmett Daly has musicianship, musicality and performance in abundance. And like me, you really should start picking up on him.

Watch “Wonderful Life ’25” by Hurts & Purple Disco Machine https://eqmusicblog.com/watch-wonderful-life-25-by-hurts-purple-disco-machine/ Tue, 27 May 2025 07:47:41 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=38911 Listen to a captivating rendition of Hurts "Wonderful Life '25," reimagined through the vibrant lens of Italo disco by Purple Disco Machine...

The post Watch “Wonderful Life ’25” by Hurts & Purple Disco Machine appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

]]>

Strangely, it was soon after a conversation with my son that things swiftly began falling into place. I had not long returned from a Chappell Roan gig at the Brixton Academy and felt the effects of post-gig blues creeping in. I simply inquired, “If there is a band you’d wish to go see, that you haven’t yet. Who would that be”? The spontaneous reply from him was Hurts. The reponse, in turn made me extremely happy, since Hurts is one of my favourite duos from this past decade. Even so, little did I foresee that within a week or two following that conversation I would spend an anxious forty minutes securing concert tickets for a Hurts “15 Years of Happiness” gig in the pre-sale.

I have covered Hurts countless times on the blog since I immensely admire the alternative pop duos’ artistry. Intelligent lyricism, distinctive alt-pop flair, stunning visual aesthetics and uber-arresting music videos. Yet I hadn’t realised the fifteenth anniversary of the duo’s debut album “Happiness” was about to arrive. Neither had it occurred to me that Hurts might go all in with celebrating this milestone. I was however massively happy to find out about the planned London show. And so, the plotting and planning began in earnest.

Listen on Apple Music

Hurts is celebrating a remarkable milestone with the release of “15 Years of Happiness,” a stunning limited edition double-vinyl picture disc that captures the essence of their journey. To honour their legendary debut album, they’ve also unveiled a captivating rendition of “Wonderful Life ’25,” reimagined through the vibrant lens of Italo disco by Purple Disco Machine. This euphoric and uplifting rework contrasts beautifully with the original’s darker tones, breathing new life into a classic. The compelling message of resilience and faith in overcoming struggles strikes a powerful chord today, resonating even more deeply than when the song first graced our ears in 2010.

Moreover, I absolutely made the right call trusting my instincts and grabbing tickets for the Brixton Academy 2025 gig. The crowd erupted with a deafening roar as Theo Hutchcraft stepped onto the stage, akin to the reception reserved for the world’s biggest pop icons. Throughout the evening, it was clear that Theo’s vocals were in outstanding form—simply incredible. The dynamic delivery, sense of melodrama and emotionally charged performances were nothing short of electric. I say this without hesitation: the show was nothing less than phenomenal. You could feel the heart and soul poured into every moment of “Happiness” performed in its entirety. Including a selection of the duos greatest hits and fan favourites that followed in the second half of the performance. This rather felt like we were being treated to a track list from a bonus CD.

The production featured everything from the iconic, stylish dancers seen in Hurts’ early music videos to a magnificent string quartet. A tight backup band, and powerful backup vocalists, topped off with the inclusion of an awe-inspiring opera singer completed the line up. In fact, this gig had it all—except sadly for Hurts’ talented multi-instrumentalist Adam Anderson, who has presently, stepped back from live performances to focus on his mental health. From the very beginning, I anticipated an unforgettable night. I was however, utterly unprepared for just how epic it turned out to be.

A word of advice. If the chance arises to see Hurts live don’t hesitate for a second. Snap up some tickets.

Watch “Cuntissimo” by MARINA https://eqmusicblog.com/watch-cuntissimo-by-marina/ Sat, 12 Apr 2025 15:26:41 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=38681 When no word could capture the powerful energy of a woman, Marina created her own expression, "Cuntissimo," and made it into an anthem. The rest is herstory...

The post Watch “Cuntissimo” by MARINA appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

With “Butterfly,” Marina truly captivated me, and “Cupid’s Girl” further deepened my appreciation for her artistry. What surprised me, however, is her latest album teaser, “Cuntissimo.” Above all, this bold move is a testament to her willingness to explore and innovate by coining a unique word. It’s intriguing to see her push creative boundaries in this way. Additionally, her decision to draw inspiration from the LGBTQ+ community showcases her awareness and connection to her passionate fanbase. It’s a candid expression that mirrors the openness of artists like Chappell Roan. Let’s be real—we can’t allow Marina to fall behind in the pantheon of gay icons, can we?

Notably, power, sexuality, and desirability resonate strongly as defining themes in this dynamic new era. Moreover, in the midst of this cultural shift, “Cuntissimo” emerges as a powerful anthem celebrating independence, paying homage to the bold women who unapologetically claim their identities and desires. With vivid lyrical imagery like “Salma Hayek in the sun” symbolizing confidence and allure, and “Louise and Thelma on the run” evoking the spirit of adventure and freedom. The song encapsulates a movement where women embrace their strength and assert their place in the world.

Listen on Apple Music

The music video, masterfully directed by Olivia de Camps, presents a stunning platinum-blonde Marina as she, with her vibrant group of friends, playfully explores the opulent halls and lush gardens of an exquisite chateau. Against a backdrop of crystal chandeliers and beautifully adorned rooms, Marina exudes an electrifying feminine energy, captivating viewers with her bold charisma and infectious sense of freedom. Their camaraderie shines through as they revel in the lavish surroundings, creating an unforgettable celebration of friendship and empowerment.

“So often, women don’t think they’re allowed to feel their sexuality in a way that doesn’t involve how it looks for men,” says MARINA. “They feel that it’s been co-opted – I would love to be able to free younger women of that, the feeling that our bodies don’t quite belong to us.”

It’s clear that this new song captivated the audience during MARINA’s Coachella main stage performance yesterday, with fans instantly spellbound by the powerful femme empowerment anthem. Excitingly, Marina is set to take the stage again next Friday, April 18th, for the second weekend. I have no doubt that by then, the crowd will be chanting “Cuntissimo” with even more enthusiasm and vigour.

If you were like me, you stayed up late last night to get your first listen to “The Giver” by today’s hottest pop starlet (and our EQ Music personal obsession) Chappell Roan.

What can I say about this “cuntry” jam? Well it’s turning me out more and more upon every listen raking up thousands of views by the minute.

Between “The Giver” and “Good Luck Babe”, Chappell Roan’s next release is surely going to be another obsessive listen.

Remember how having a dubstep breakdown was the trendy thing to do in every new pop song like ten years or so ago? Well, I’m wondering now if having at least one country song is the next big trend in pop. Maybe Beyoncé and Sabrina Carpenter are onto something here…

In the meantime, I’m waiting by my postbox for “The Giver” 7″ vinyl to arrive so it can be spun everyday until Chappell’s next single drops. And don’t think we didn’t notice the menu at the top of the video too…could the tracklist for the next EP or album be hinted at?

And finally, Chappell’s performance of “The Giver” was released from SNL. Thanks for making us wait gurly pop.

Listen to “F*cking Myself” by Zee Machine https://eqmusicblog.com/listen-to-fcking-myself-by-zee-machine/ Mon, 04 Nov 2024 13:43:35 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=37752 It's giving raw and unapologetic honesty. With its thought-provoking lyrics, "F*cking Myself" by Zee Machine captivates with its direct and powerful message of body image confidence and self-worth

The post Listen to “F*cking Myself” by Zee Machine appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

]]>

For a brief moment, I found myself torn over whether to feature today’s track. The title “F*cking Myself” had me questioning if I could genuinely write a blog about it. After some back-and-forth reflection and fueled by my admiration for this artist. I ultimately decided to share the latest release from Zee Machine. At first glance, the explicit title seems crafted for shock value. However, when you listen closely, the lyrical content reveals a deeper narrative. It thoughtfully explores vital themes of body image, confidence, and self-worth, making it a compelling track worth discussing.

Notably, the track by Zee Machine powerfully explores the theme of receiving superficial compliments about one’s appearance, i.e, using the terms handsome or beautiful. Notably it prompts a deeper reflection on whether those giving such praise ever consider the inner beauty that truly defines a person. As an artist, Zee questions whether people are genuinely interested in him or just captivated by his looks. He emphasizes the importance of recognizing the hard work and dedication he puts into refining his artistry. And additionally to bring in a touch of humour and absurdity to the serious nature of the topic, he cheekily concludes the chorus with, “If I woke up in your body I would be f*cking myself.” Lyrics which leaves the listener entertained and thoughtful.

Listen on Apple Music

Above all, the track embraces the pop-rock style that fans have come to expect from Zee Machine. However, the incorporation of spoken word interludes adds a fresh dimension, reminiscent of Chappell Roan’s captivating approach in her stunning debut album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.” Moreover, I truly believe that Chappell’s impressive success and her bold, authentic lyricism have the potential to inspire Zee Machine to explore a similar artistic direction. This year, listeners have wholeheartedly embraced this unapologetic style of storytelling, which creates a genuine connection with fans. It’s a relatable way to engage, akin to chatting with friends. This is undoubtedly, why Gen Z has rallied around Chappell in the past twelve months. It’s a compelling opportunity for Zee Machine to follow suit and capture that same audience.

She is poised to make waves in 2025 with this powerful and alluring mix

The post EMERGING ARTIST: Hayes Warner appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

Now here is what I call an electrifying new pop artist! New York emerging singer-songwriter Hayes Warner strikes up interest with her vibrant brand of pop everywhere she goes. Although, the streaming figures she is picking up are impressive. Yet, more than this, the powerful, alluring mix of pop/rock and electro is especially exciting.

From rapidly rising through the ranks, Hayes appears to be toning down upon her formative pop-punk style as she teasers tracks lifted from her upcoming debut EP. The current focus track, “ZIP” is particularly fiery and bombastic. Stylewise she pairs the pop/rock elements in the vein of Avril Lavigne with the sassy pop sensibility carried off by Ava Max. In fact, if Ava had not made it her brand to pile in with the use of samples in her music, she would probably make music strikingly comparative to that of Hayes Warner.

Listen on Apple Music

Notably when discussing the new track, Hayes has this to say…

“’ZIP” is about the emotional complexity of maintaining a relationship when faced with uncomfortable truths. It illustrates the conflict between the need for honesty and the desire to shield oneself from pain, opting for selective ignorance as a coping mechanism.”

Although, noticeably Hayes Warner’s debut at Lollapalooza this year was vastly overshadowed by a phenomenal, record-breaking debut performance from, pop’s newest superstar Chappell Roan. Regardless, Hayes is sure to have picked up an appreciative reaction with her buzzy, pumped up offerings. Furthermore, it’s good that through touring as a support artist, she’s gotten a ton of live performances under her belt. Since her sound is instantly captivating, Hayes is likely to become an in-demand artist on the festival circuit in 2025. Notably stemming in the first instance from the release of her debut EP in the spring.

With excitement building up around Hayes, you can bet EQ Music Blog is similarly curious about the upcoming EP release. Please visit: https://www.hayeswarner.com/ and her social media platforms below for more Hayes Warner news and information on this charismatic, rising, electro-pop starlet.

The post Listen to “Summer Lover” by Runrummer appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

]]>

It is almost time that the rising indie-alt-pop artist Rumrunner releases her hotly anticipated debut album “Elevator,” out October 25th. Following on the back of a clutch of teaser singles. (See my emerging artist post for the track “All I Wanted was to be Romantic“). Runrummer has set the stage for a notable debut release. In today’s post, I am therefore diving in with Rumrunner once more. Since the final album lead-up track is out, the duly timed “Summer Lover.”

The windy and rainy weather encountered in parts of the UK lately, might prompt us to think that summer 2024 is well and truly over. However, there appears to be quite a few music artists (Runrummer included) who are causing me to think otherwise at the moment. Namely, owing to a slew of last minute summer themed/styled releases.

Whereas numerous pop newcomers seek musical influence in artists such as Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Dua Lipa and Chappell Roan. Runrummer has made it clear, the release of “Summer Lover” is inspired by the sounds of Metronomy and Two Door Cinema Club. Thus where she achieves a notable indie-alt-pop vibe. Also evident is a kind of Lily Allen approach to lyricism and her distinctive vocal style, does strike with some similarity to that of La Roux.

Listen on Apple Music

Speaking about “Summer LoverRunrummer shares…
“It’s a song all about feeling nostalgic for that special summer romance, and the allure of one day being back together. A perfect song for September, this track will make you want to turn away from Autumn and run straight back to July”.

The music of Runrummer offers a captivating glimpse into the artist’s inner world. Her lyrical style of storytelling is deeply personal, allowing her personality to shine through in every song. As the buzz around Runrummer continues to build. I find myself increasingly captivated by the authenticity and raw emotion she brings to her music. With her debut album “Elevator” on the horizon. I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to immerse myself in her musical expression and gain a richer understanding of who Runrummer is as an artist.

The post EMERGING ARTIST: Déyyess appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

]]>

Today I am shining a spotlight on indie-pop singer-songwriter Déyyess, who is continually picking up momentum from their music being picked up by music blogs. And which has in turn lead to their music premiered by the likes of Zane Lowe and featured with Apple Music, Travis Scott. Furthermore similarly, championed by Billboard. I noticed Déyyess because of the latest track “Claire” and because namely since their music resides in the indie-pop lane featuring synths. But moreover listening to “Claire” I also really liked the lyrical authenticity Déyyess shares.

Their voice is soft and dreamy as clouds of cotton candy. Yet the feelings they evoke when sharing their experiences as a queer person are without a doubt soul-stirring. Furthermore, lamenting over their lesbian crush “Claire“. And owing to the toxicity of the relationship makes the track an incredibly poignant one. As listeners discover, “Claire” played with Déyyess heart. Who similarly was cocooned in their love and shattered their seemingly burgeoning relationship when confessing to having a boyfriend. With Déyyess crushing so hard on this girl “Claire,” the track echoes the devastation felt after falling hard and catching feelings for them.

Listen on Apple Music

Déyyess captivates with their soft, delicate voice and the dreamy atmosphere of their bittersweet music. The combination of softness with darker themes is truly evocative. “Claire” is a song that provides a welcome escape from the sound of the pop charts and excessive electronic music. Its poetic lyrics and captivating heartfelt story are both soothing and heartrending.

What I get from Déyyess music is striking and unique, showcasing authentic and alluring qualities that set them apart from other artists flourishing in the genre. (Romy, Chappell Roan for example). Their lyrical and artistic prowess, characterized by delicate and soft elements, is truly captivating and leaves a lasting impression. Moreover, the music is addicting.
