For example, British club-pop rising star Samira is vying for a piece of the action herself sharing, “Cardio“. (The first focus track from her upcoming sophomore EP).

Building on the impressive foundation of her debut EP “Dancefloors & Drama Vol1.” Enables Samira to boldly continue her exploration of dynamic dancefloor anthems that resonate with her audience. Rising British pop sensation Samira captured significant attention on the blog in 2023. The talented singer-songwriter made waves with her debut EP, “Dancefloors and Drama Vol 1,” a vibrant collection of infectious dance-pop anthems. While 2024 was relatively quiet in terms of new releases, Samira dedicated much of the year to honing her craft in the studio. This sets the stage for an exciting 2025. Notably where we can anticipate fresh tracks that are sure to captivate her growing fanbase. Just this week, she ignited the conversation once again with the powerful anthem “Valentine’s Day (I Ain’t Got Time For That)“. The track, a fearless declaration that showcases her undeniable artistry and charisma.

As showcased in her debut EP “Dancefloors and Drama Vol 1,” Samira draws deeply from her personal experiences, and this theme continues to resonate in her latest single, “Valentine’s Day (I Ain’t Got Time For That).” Following her journey on Love Island in 2018, it was evident she was searching for love. However, this new anthem marks a striking evolution in her perspective. Undeniably it boldly asserts her independence and self-worth, signaling that she is now prioritizing her own needs and aspirations over romantic entanglements. Samira is clearly embracing a powerful message of self-empowerment and confidence in her music.

Listen on Apple Music

To begin with, it only takes one tumultuous romantic relationship to make us incredibly cautious about opening up to experience falling in love again. Samira has an incredible story that lies behind the lyrics of the new song…

Samira said: “I wrote this (“Valentine’s Day“) last year after I got spectacularly ghosted by a fitness influencer (ick!) I was dating, and then I had to wait a whole year until the big date rolled around again so I could spill the tea and get my revenge! The lyrics are sassy and lots of fun, but it’s also a bit of a reminder to prioritise your self-care, my darlings.”

Samira has predominantly crafted infectious, upbeat anthems, but with “Valentine’s Day,” a remarkable musical evolution takes centre stage. This track introduces a captivating RnB influence alongside a polished pop style that immediately grabs attention. The mid-tempo rhythm signifies an exciting and noteworthy shift in her artistry.

Her unmistakable, mesmerizing vocals only amplify the magnetic allure that grows with each release. For fans of dance, electronic, and pop music, keeping a close watch on Samira is essential. The likelihood is high that whatever she unveils next will not only meet but exceed expectations. Above all solidifying her place as a powerhouse in the music scene.

Are you ready for some electrifying news? The break-out dance-pop sensation Samira has done it again. Merely a month after releasing her stunning debut EP “Dancefloors & Drama Vol 1,” she is back with a bang! This time, she has collaborated with Liverpool-based DJ/Producer ESSEL, and lends her mesmerizing voice to the empowerment anthem “Where My Girls At?.” The song is a modern take on the 90s hit single by the American girl group 702 and is sure to leave you feeling empowered and energized.

Furthermore, this undoubted banger came about in quite an organic way…

“As soon as I heard the track demo, I was hooked,” says ESSEL. “Later, I found out that Samira was the vocalist and a few years earlier when she was in Love Island I’d reached out to collab, so when this came around, I felt the stars have finally aligned, and it just felt right to release something together finally.”

In this version of the song, ESSEL and Samira have taken inspiration from the 1999 certified gold original and added their own touch. They achieve this by leaning further into the melody’s pop vibe and further utilizing the refrain “Where My Girls At?” to emphasize the power of female solidarity. It’s a refreshing take on an already popular track.

Don’t wait any longer to give it a listen!

ESSEL is definitely a rising star in the music industry. Where notably, her exceptional talent in crafting beats that are both powerful and energetic is what stands her apart from the rest. Her music is a perfect blend of dance-pop that can get anyone on the dance floor in no time. It’s no wonder that top DJs like David Guetta, Alesso, Axwell, and Tiesto are already showing their support for her. ESSEL’s music is definitely worth watching out for. Likewise, Samira’s latest collaboration with ESSEL is an exciting development for the aspiring pop star. Since the track marks her first collaboration since her hit with W.D.C., “I Love Your Smile“, in 2022. The song spent an impressive 16 days in Spotify’s Daily Viral UK Chart and even received daytime Radio 1 support. This achievement shows that Samira has what it takes to make it in the industry. Are you feeling it too? – January can feel very long and dull. Am I right? But it’s great to know that we’re almost through it, and there’s a lot to look forward to in the coming months. I feel sure we all agree music is a great way to brighten up any day, and the past few months have seen some truly amazing releases. Therefore, it’s a good idea to take some time to appreciate the music that has helped us through the winter. And what better way to do that than listening to the newly curated “This Beat Is Poptronik 2024” playlist? Let’s turn up the volume and let some tunes lift our spirits!

This Beat is Poptronik 2024 playlist features…

We could hardly contain our excitement the other week when alt-pop’s Allie X unleashed the track “Off With Her Tits.” Not only is this song 100 per cent electronic (which makes us deliriously happy), with song lyrics powerful and thought-provoking, the song is without a doubt, the type of one-of-a-kind that only Allie X could bring to the table.

December is a difficult month to compete in, with the usual Christmas classics like Wham!, Pogues ft Kirsty McColl, Mariah Carey, and Michael Buble taking up their annual chart residence. At the time, it didn’t make sense why Olly Alexander (Years & Years) should release the track “A Very Bad Fun Idea” other than it being the title track from the upcoming movie “Bonus Track.” It’s bittersweet to note the song didn’t chart. Although, within a week of the track dropping we found out Olly is to represent the UK at Eurovision this year.

The whole debate about whether Ariana Grande sampled Madonna‘s “Vogue” or not became quite heated. However, in my opinion, she just channels the iconic song. But I do think that there is a clear tribute to Paula Abdul in the video. The video seems to be directly inspired by the one Abdul recorded in 1988 for her song “Cold Hearted“. It’s great to see present-day pop divas paying tribute to their peers. And that’s why “yes, and?” deserves to be highly placed on the “This Beat Is Poptronik 2024” playlist.

Whatever you do, you should not miss these gems from Nic Billington, Bright Light Bright Light, Margaret Berger, Dua Lipa, Oh Land, Samira and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Some emerging artists for your radar…

Classically trained artist Micah McLaurin switches it up. Takes a leap into the future with debut disco-pop anthem “MOONS.” Micah is the embodiment of living life authentically as he celebrates the song’s message of realizing the freedom to love. Since “MOONS” just got the remix treatment from Troye Sivan collaborator/RuPaul’s Drag Race songwriter and producer Leland. Therefore, concerning Micah, I feel it’s fair to say, watch this space…

In fact, it would be rather strange if Talia Mar were not one to watch out for in 2024. With her talent and versatility, she is sure to make a significant impact. I didn’t really connect with the debut singles a lot simply because they didn’t appeal to me style-wise. However, the latest release, “Bored“, hones a noughties banger aesthetic that in my opinion gives off Sugababes vibes.

Tsatsamis is an emerging electronic artist who exhibits a unique sound and style. It is a good idea to have him on your radar. Especially bearing in mind a sophomore EP, “Our Shame“, is out soon. In the meantime, however, I highly recommend checking out the recent releases, “Everybody Wants a Piece of You” and “Let Go.” A rising star in electronic music, Tsatsamis utilizes a style both distinctive and unique, inspired by queer culture and sexual identity. He also just remixed the track “You Want My...” for Bright Light Bright Light. Similarly, with such a fantastic endorsement from Rod (he has impeccable taste,) we know we are doing right by backing Tsatsamis.

Keep looking in at EQ Music Blog for “This Beat Is Poptronik” Playlist updates throughout 2024. In the meantime, we wish you many hours of happy listening to the tracks we have curated on Spotify HERE.

If you’re a fan of dance-pop, Samira is a name you need to know. The emerging singer-songwriter heated up 2023 with a run of irresistible dance-pop bangers. Far from going off the boil, she continues manifesting her own heatwave in 2024 by unleashing the highly anticipated debut EP “Dancefloors & Drama Vol 1,” and the new single “Broke Me Good,” today.

It’s interesting to observe how new artists usually release their most impactful songs first, followed by subsequent releases that often pale in comparison. However, sine I’ve been following Samira’s emergence it’s clear that she’s not following this typical formula. Every release she has put out to date has been as powerful as a lightning bolt, filled with infectious pop beats and irresistible danceability. It’s exciting to see an artist break the mould and consistently deliver high-quality music.

Moreover, Samira’s debut project is a must-listen for anyone going through heartbreak. With top producers like Cutfather (Kylie and The Pussycat Dolls), Theo Douke (Sam Tompkins and Karen Harding) and rising talents like Tancrede and Welshy on board. The tracks “Like This, Like That,” “That’s Not What My Friends Say,” “Envy Me,” “Toxic,” “Good At Goodbyes,” and “Broke Me Good” are powerhouse releases. Each one explores the bittersweet experiences of heartbreak with relatable lyrics that capture the drama of life. The energized dancefloor appeal of these tracks will help you unleash your emotions and heal.

Getting its time in the spotlight the track “Broke Me Good.” This is a powerful song that details a destructive relationship and Samira describes it as… “It’s like a diary entry about a past relationship and it’s very emotionally deep.” What sets Samira’s music apart is the raw emotions and important messages that are woven into every song. The lyrics carry a considerable emotional weight that makes this collection of stunning anthemic dance-pop bangers all the more alluring. If you’re looking for music that speaks to your soul, Samira is not to be missed.

She has truly been a force to reckon with this year. Independently releasing emerging talent Samira is showing no signs of slowing down! Her latest release, “Toxic,” is yet another bop that showcases her unique style and talent. In this track, the fast-rising pop queen encourages listeners to hit the dancefloor and let loose, using music as a way to shed the weight of bad relationships by dancing away their troubles.

Samira said: “’Toxic’ is one of my favourite babies – it’s fun, flirty and sassy, but underneath the gloss it’s actually quite sad, tackling the important question of, ‘Why do we put up with bad behaviour in relationships, and what makes us go back to those situations?’”

Listen on Apple Music

Samira has been on fire this year with her amazing releases, and her latest track “Toxic” is no exception. With her unique sound, she’s already making a name for herself in the music industry. “Toxic” is an absolute bop that will have you dancing your troubles away in no time. I definitely envisage her rising to the top of the charts alongside established pop queens like Dua Lipa and Mimi Webb. This year Samira has consistently delivered dance-pop hits. Evidently therefore, she’s now well on her way to headlining her own shows. With her talent and drive, I have no doubt that 2024 will be her year to shine. As she continues to build her profile through electrifying live performances.

Her latest release, “Toxic,” is a testament to her talent and ability to create infectious dance-pop bangers. Co-written by Samira with Kal Lavelle (Ed Sheeran), Tancrede Rouff, and Theo Douke. Confirms the industry has already taken notice of her. Therefore, I feel it’s only a matter of time before she rises to the top.

With the imminent announcement of her debut EP, the anticipation for what’s to come is palpable. Since, Samira’s music has the potential to be recognized by tastemakers. It would be a shame if the likes of the BBC Sound Of poll were not to acknowledge the impact of her pop/dance-pop sound.

Moreover, keep an eye out for Samira in the coming months, as I feel she’s more waves to make in the music industry.

It’s clear that Samira has a talent for creating music that is both catchy and enjoyable to listen to. Since embarking on her solo music venture earlier this year. Rapidly rising pop newcomer Samira is building up an impressive repertoire of tracks. Her first track, “Like This Like That,” was produced by Cutfather and has a catchy beat that is sure to get you moving. Her follow-up track “That’s Not What My Friends Say,” is also noteworthy and an energetic dance anthem. In this week’s crop of new music releases, Samira strikes out for a third time, sharing “Envy Me,” her latest, irresistible dance floor slayer.

Envy Me” features Samira collaborating with track co-writer Daniel Schulz a talented multi-hyphenate from Denmark. (Daniel has the most streamed Danish debut single ever, with his 2017 hit “Turn Back Time“). The song is all about moving on from a breakup and being in a better place while knowing that your ex wishes they could do the same. Samira delivers some powerful lyrics in “Envy Me“, calling out her ex for throwing parties without her and pretending to have moved on easily. She knows that her ex is with somebody else, but deep down, they envy her. It’s a relatable and empowering message that anyone who has gone through a tough breakup can appreciate.

It’s amazing to see how much progress she has made in just a few short months. She has gone from zero to three brilliantly crafted dance-pop smashes under her belt, that are sure to get stuck in your head for days. It’s pretty evident that her goal from the beginning was to make a big impact. She is definitely achieving that.

I have no doubt that her talent will continue to shine through in her future music. Stay tuned for Samira’s debut EP due for release later this year.

Did anyone else notice that new music releases in recent weeks were increasingly littered with dance-floor bangers? Without a doubt, dance anthems are back in vogue at the moment. April 2023 has seen Kylie Minogue, Mutya Buena and Kim Petras and Nicki Minaj quick to hop on dance-floor-worthy anthems. And this is a trend that will unquestionably pick up pace as summertime arrives. In fact, if we cast our minds back to February to the official launch of pop newcomer Samira and her debut solo single “Like This Like That.” I note she was ahead of the curve and did right to strike out early.

In the follow-up release, “That’s Not What My Friends Say,” Samira is even more determined to prove she is ready to take on the queens of pop and of the clubs. Without hesitation, sharing sassy, powerhouse vocals, she declares herself ready to let the world know what she is capable of. What I have heard from her so far. The result is that Samira’s bouncy signature style dance-pop candy is on par with what the best of the best can deliver.

Listen on Apple Music

Unleashing, “That’s Not What My Friends Say,” Samira said:

“Like it is for most girls my age, dating is… interesting! And so I wanted to write a semi-autobiographical girl power anthem that was spicy and full of personality, that celebrated friendship and the role your friends often take in spotting the red flags before you do!”

That’s Not What My Friends Say” held my attention. Whereas a lot of other dance-pop music does not. In part because Samira spent the past year in the studio honing her craft alongside some of the industry’s biggest hitmakers. However, none of that would matter if she wasn’t a high-calibre artist in the first place. The proof of these credentials lies in the music. You will not have to go far into her tracks before noticing how notable in the dance-pop arena Samira is set to become.

Watch this space. Since we’ve heard there’s more irresistible new music on the way, this year from this rising pop star.
