It’s no surprise that Kim Petras is set to perform at PRIDE events this summer, as her presence has become a staple of these celebrations. It would truly feel incomplete without her as a headliner or at least part of the lineup. This summer presents an excellent opportunity for this pop powerhouse to not only thrill fans with her extensive repertoire of beloved hits but also to introduce fresh material. Given the hints about her time in the studio, it was therefore, highly likely she may debut some new tracks. When she first released “POLO,” fans were pleasantly surprised to see her embrace a full-on club-ready, EDM sound, showcasing her evolving artistry.

Following the much-anticipated unveiling, Bunheads have become fervently enthusiastic about the track “POLO,” but their excitement doesn’t stop there. A significant number of fans have been vocal about their desire for Kim to share another electrifying track, “Freak It,” which recently featured in her sets. It’s easy to understand why this bass-heavy club anthem has the Bunheads buzzing with excitement. Notably, the infectious energy and powerful beats are perfect for a lively night out. Moreover, the influence of last summer’s “BRAT” effect has carried over. As we see its impact resonating with some of pop’s leading ladies, including the vibrant Kesha, who is similarly riding a wave of popularity this summer. And now it appears Kim is also hopping on this trend. Either way the embrace of electrifying electro by such artists is creating a thrilling atmosphere in the current music scene.

Speaking of “Freak It”, Kim says…

I miss the chaos and joy of artists like LMFAO and Avicii, and honestly, I just want to lose my mind at clubs this summer listening to this song. The fans yelling at me to release it basically did me a favor. God was definitely in the studio that day.”

Currently, collaborations with the dynamic duo Frost Children are creating a significant buzz in the music industry. Their exceptional talent in hyper-pop production has played a pivotal role in shaping Babymorocco‘s debut album, “Amour.” An album that has not only received critical acclaim from music reviewers but has also captured the hearts of fans, establishing a strong presence in the genre. Similarly, the Frost Children make an impression for Kim’s “Freak It,” which delivers an electrifying surge of synth-pop energy. This song perfectly blends vibrant, pulsating synths with a backdrop of frenetic bass beats, creating an exhilarating listening experience.

I think we can assume the era that follows next shall be Kim’s boldest yet.

Following the recent “No Hard Feelings” EP release. Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart aka The Chainsmokers set about teasing more new music, this time with a feature from GRAMMY-winning pop icon Kim Petras. Coming out of a brief stint of teasing clips online and during their live sets. The track “Don’t Lie” along with a supporting music video was officially released on Friday. Some might say the production duo were keen to give the track a summer release, by a stroke of fortune they’ve managed to squeeze it in.

Why not work with Kim Petras, she has notably appeared on quite a few dance tracks before. Although I hasten to comment that noticeably, Kim’s vocal performance is somewhat dreamier and soothing here than she appears on her other artist collaborations. In fact The Chainsmokers have encapsulated the style of a eurodance banger for “Don’t Lie.” In truth the track is similarly giving me “Rapture” by iio feat Nadia Ali vibes.

Listen on Apple Music

However, in their wait to share this sun-soaked scorcher of a track. The Chainsmokers bid to erase all of this year’s summer anthems from music fans’ memories. Thus leaving a lasting impression of 2024 with the slinky dance beats and the catchy “da, da, da, da, da, doh” refrain of “Don’t Lie“.

The “Don’t Lie” music video directed by Chris Maggio is just as memorable. There is no doubt that fans will fondly remember it as the first time Kim Petras debuted her brunette hair. Whereas, Kim’s emergence from a muddy puddle in the clip somewhat indicates a rebirth. In the situation of “Don’t Lie” Kim is depicted as a free spirit who embraces the energy of the on-going forest rave put together by Alex and Drew. Things take a turn at the wrath of the weather, as sunshine gives way to storm conditions. Yet these party revellers are a hardy bunch, a soaking from the wind and rain is hardly going to stop them from indulging in such hedonistic pleasure.

Via social media, The Chainsmokers comment…

“Internally this song marks a shift in the way we’ve been making music in the absolute best way. It lead us to rediscovering the process that started all of this back when we were making indie remixes in 2014, hoping that they would get some traction on hype machine. Things feel fucking fun right now.”

Adam Lambert makes a bold statement by sharing two of his most daring, sex-positive dance tracks

The post Listen: Adam Lambert makes a bold statement by sharing two of his most daring, sex-positive dance tracks… appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

Evidently, Adam Lambert is certainly making a bold statement with his upcoming “Afters” EP – (Set for release on July 19th). The EP features the singles “Lube” and “Wet Dream,” which equally showcase unapologetically raw lyricism that vividly explores a theme of intense pleasure. And furthermore, fearlessly delves into themes of sexuality and liberation. This musical era is perfectly aligned with the pulsating sounds of the clubs and the energetic aesthetic of the dancefloor. Thus making it an ideal summer release for a time when many of us are feeling upbeat and carefree.

Without a doubt, Adam’s latest releases have revolutionized the dancefloor, infusing it with an irresistible allure. Crafting music that is unapologetically queer and sex-positive. And by seamlessly melding pulsating beats and captivating rhythms of house music. Seemingly, it’s as if he has boldly placed a bedroom right in the heart of the dancefloor.

Listen on Apple Music

Adam says “The freedom with which we wrote these lyrics is evidence of a new chapter in my artistry where I refuse to edit or filter myself. Both songs are about connection, and fearlessly turning fantasy into reality”.

Listen on Apple Music

Furthermore, these tracks are unquestionably rooted in hedonistic tendencies. And it is abundantly apparent that Adam is wholly having fun with the whole music process. With music artists of the moment, it seems to be all the rage to be as unfiltered and authentic as possible. Albeit, Madonna has been doing this throughout her music career. Yet, coming out from the pandemic and returning to normalcy. There seems to be a mini epidemic of music artists setting a new bar for liberal expression and authenticity, especially within dance-pop. Predominantly, Sam Smith, Troye Sivan, Tove Lo, and Kim Petras have set a precedent and now Adam Lambert joins these ranks.

Adam has built a remarkable career through his fearless and innovative performances. Of which have left an indelible mark on the pop music scene. His unwavering dedication to LGBTQ+ advocacy has not only elevated his artistry. But also paved the way for greater inclusivity and representation within the music industry. As a trailblazing queer artist, Adam continually redefines the boundaries and expectations. Moreover, inspiring a new generation of musicians to embrace their authentic selves.

Listen to “Good Boy” by Zee Machine https://eqmusicblog.com/listen-to-good-boy-by-zee-machine/ Mon, 19 Feb 2024 11:05:08 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=36015 Upon hearing the latest Zee Machine kinky bop, "Good Boy," listeners can expect an insatiable need for more thirst pop releases.

The post Listen to “Good Boy” by Zee Machine appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

Unquestionably with regards to music releases in 2023, Zee Machine stepped up to the plate. Undoubtedly, it was probably Zee’s most music-productive year ever in terms of getting new material out. Also, aside from the solo stuff, there was Zee’s first official duet on the Bentley Robles track “See Me Naked.” In fact, this particular unadulterated fun pop song seems to have had a lasting effect with Zee encouraging them to explore more light-hearted themes, while keeping the lyrical narrative, authentic and relatable. All of which is found in the fresh new release, “Good Boy.”

Personally, I love that they shared a little of their playfulness in this sassy, sexy song. Namely because, in a week where sex-positive songs ruled, “Good Boy” stands out among the best. The track has such a joyous and cheeky vibe. Plus is incredibly electrifying and funky in its music styling as well. The overall musical epicness provides the optimum backup for Zee to whop their electric guitar out and stroke a few sizzling riffs upon it.

Song lyrics, such as…

“So give me one way ticket to the back of the wall, are you feeling me now, are you feeling new now. I’m making your eyes rolling back so you answer my call. Baby say it out loud. Being such a good boy.” Leaves little to the imagination.

Listen on Apple Music

Furthermore, it really feels like a shift is occurring with many LGBTQIA+ pop artists. Especially those that have also expressed authenticity in their lyrical narratives, with heartfelt, earnest connections. Listening to these new tracks feels as though a switch has gone off, and everyone is suddenly horny and OK with sharing some of the pleasurable experiences in the form of song. See Bright Light, Bright Light’s “You Want My…” and “Slut Pop Miami” by Kim Petras. Also, the brilliant, “Second, Minute, Hour” by JORDY, while not forgetting the same applies with anything Bentley Robles related.

Since Zee has rolled out the glorious kinky bop “Good Boy,” I have an insatiable craving for more thirst pop releases. And, specifically, Zee you wouldn’t wish your fans to become dehydrated now, would you?

Colour me excited to hear the follow-up releases.

In the last few years, we have learned that Kim Petras outrageousness knows no abounds. And that she’s come a long way since breaking out with bubblegum pop cute bops such as the 2018 release, “Heart To Break.” A transformation noted by Kim’s debut “Slut Pop” EP that arrived in the wake of the track “Coconuts,” release. And simultaneously marking a pivotal transition for the trans, pop provocateur. Clearly still revelling in the positive reaction her debut collection of sex-positive tracks received from her fans. Kim backs up the release with a raunchy follow-up, “Slut Pop Miami,” in way of a Valentine’s treat to her fans.

The run time of this 12-track EP is a mere twenty-three minutes long. Therefore when doing the maths, each of the new risqué offerings presents themselves much in the form of teasers that link to create a mixtape in the guise of an EP of the raunchiest order. Kim never once claimed “Slut Pop” as her own erotica. Nevertheless, in this second sexy instalment, there are no limitations to her brazenness.

Knowing that the content is NSFW, the best way to listen to any “Slut Pop” release, “Slut Pop Miami” included, is with an open mind and with earphones clamped on. But in all seriousness, the lyrics, which I cannot repeat in this blog due to their extremely explicit nature, are proper gay gold. (See, you wouldn’t find me typing the phrase “Whale Cock.” However, oops, I just did! as just expressing my fun side y’all.)

Attempting to retain some level of decorum when in the throes of blogging “Slut Pop Miami“… here’s a share of the less vulgar but fully electrified pop of the “Slut Pop Reprise.”

Listen to “Too Much Too Little” by Georgia https://eqmusicblog.com/listen-to-too-much-too-little-by-georgia/ Wed, 14 Feb 2024 10:45:03 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=35985 Out now! "Too Much Too Little" is the dance pop track Georgia debuted at her shows last year, that her fans urged her to release.

On this blog last year, I discussed the “Euphoric” album by Georgia, at length. Owing to her distinctive sound as she transitioned from a producer-based directive to that of a left-field pop artist. Georgia continued to push the boundaries of electronic music. While embracing a pop aesthetic, she made sure to keep the stylings of a dance element embedded in her tracks, which sets her apart from her contemporaries.

Also in 2023, Georgia once again proved herself a festival favourite. She solidified her performance status with a successful tour in promotion of “Euphoric“. Incidently, I was lucky enough to catch one of her live shows at the Colour Factory in London, and it was absolutely amazing! During her set, she even shared a new song and hinted that she would release it soon. I’ve been eagerly waiting for it ever since. And now, the wait is finally over – “Too Much Too Little” is out now, and it’s already making waves after premiering as Hottest Record, on BBC Radio 1’s Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.

Listen on Apple Music

I saw Georgia on the night she wrapped up her UK dates. And I vividly remember the response the crowd at the Colour Factory, London gave “Too Much Too Little.” The reaction to this dance-pop offering, in essence, was as raucous as any feedback we gave when she played any of her well-loved hits, or recent track releases equally. Yet, I’m glad that her audiences proved good test groups. Also since the tour ended, Georgia, worked hard to come up with a final edit that she is proud to share.

In the song’s powerful and thought-provoking lyrics, It’s clear that Georgia has an important message to share. Moreover, her reflections on the impact of mass consumption on the modern world are deeply relevant and important for us to consider. The combination of her poignant lyrics and the energetic piano and drum accompaniment create a truly impactful and memorable song. Yet, overall, this song is a great example of how music can be used to spark meaningful conversations about the issues that matter most.

Feeling blue or overwhelmed? I have just the prescription for you: a Georgia gig. These shows are a surefire way to boost your mood with their powerful mix of happiness, connection, and love. Trust me, after attending one, you’ll leave feeling refreshed and uplifted. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to experience this incredible remedy for yourself.

In her live dates, coming up… Georgia joins Kim Petras on the UK and European legs of her “Feed The Beast” tour. Commencing 13th February – Details HERE

The post Stream It! “This Beat Is Poptronik” – Fall 2023 appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

]]>

Hey there! Since the last “This Beat is Poptronik” playlist update in June, a lot has happened in the music world.

The summer months have been abuzz with album releases from some of the biggest names in the industry. It’s been a period of incredible experiences where I have relished getting stuck in, championing and supporting the latest album releases from Troye Sivan, Georgia, Kylie Minogue, OMD, Moyka, Kim Petras and Romy. As we head into Fall 2023, as your EQ hosts, Raj and I, are excited to present a new and exciting playlist for all your cosy days at home and away. Whether you’re relaxing on the couch or exploring the great outdoors, expect to hear some of the best pop, electronic and indie tracks released in Q2. Are you ready? Let’s unpack, “This Beat Is Poptronik – Fall 2023“…

This Beat Is Poptronik” – Fall 2023 features…

In July, Troye Sivan returned with a dance track, “Rush.” The first single from his third album, “Something To Give Each Other.” This Latin-influenced track was supported with a steamily choreographed video that we have on replay in our heads whenever we listen to “Rush.” In our opinion, this is more than a good enough reason to peg it at the top of the playlist.

We didn’t see this one coming from The Killers, “Your Side of Town.” Since, listening to the track, I couldn’t help but notice the similarities to the music styles of Pet Shop Boys (musically) and New Order (melody/top-line). This epic, impactful track will surely pique the interest of 80s music fans especially.

For the 35th anniversary. The Cash Cash remix of “Tell It To My Heart” has the iconic dance hit up to date. The fact that Taylor Dayne rerecorded the vocal on this new 2023 version just adds to its appeal. Her powerhouse voice still sounds as amazing as ever.

Speaking of comebacks, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, (OMD) really played a blinder on the new album “Bauhaus Staircase“. A massive win for electronic music this year, bulldozing in at #2 in the Official album charts. So many rich pickings from this release, but feel “Veruschka,” is particularly spellbinding. Highly cinematic and fans of The Sound Of Arrows, in particular, are sure to love it.

Besides the above. Embedded in “This Beat Is Poptronik” – Fall 2023 playlist there’s more gems not to be missed from… Sia, Bananarama, Harry Styles, Lauv, Bright Light Bright Light, Zee Machine and Georgia.

Some emerging artists for your radar…

I have waxed lyrical on EQ Music Blog about Nic Billington for years. His music style is electronic with a dark pop aesthetic. There is no doubt whatever Nic puts out is consummate, slick, and stylish. The latest release, a reimagining of Billy Idol‘s track “White Wedding” is super hot in more ways than one. (Ahem… I will say no more than check out the must-see video)

I have lost count of how many times Bentley Robles has featured on the blog this year. With confidence, I can say the “Ugly Crier” EP is a testament to Bentley’s growth as an artist. His takeover of the pop scene is seen through a magic music formula of electro-pop and confessional lyrics.

Chappell Roan – “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl“. I do feel that countries outside the USA, including the UK, still have some catching up to do when it comes to recognizing the talent of this young artist. She is a tenacious pop spirit with exuberance in abundance. Stay tuned… I think Chappell has got what it takes to be the next big pop star.

Quirky pop star! Babymorocco is here to slay with doses of groovealicious electro-pop, thumpa thumpa basslines and pure unadulterated donk. The track “Everyone” is taken from the debut EP “The Sound.” This makes for a groovalicious experience, comprised of hyper-pop beats reminiscent of the music by Calvin Harris and Basshunter from the 2000s. It’s rare to come across music like this in 2023, but this EP resoundingly delivers.

Check out Khazali for easy-listening pop songs with a touch of synths, catchy melodies and lyrics worth listening to. Tracks “Did It For Love” and “Magic” are a perfect blend of soulful funky groove and heated-up aesthetic.

Stay ready for another thrilling update to this playlist as the year comes to a close! We can’t wait to share more of our music taste with you, including more of the latest, “This Beat Is Poptronik” news. So make sure to stay tuned for an updated playlist that will undoubtedly get you moving and grooving!

Kim Petras has released her album “Problématique” https://eqmusicblog.com/kim-petras-has-released-her-album-problematique/ Wed, 20 Sep 2023 08:50:04 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=35146 Kim Petras has released her album "Problématique". "Je T'Adore" and "Treat Me Like A Ho" stand out as essential tracks.

It’s interesting to reflect on Kim PetrasFeed The Beast” debut album. (Especially considering I was away when it was unleashed in June). Since it is readily apparent, the body of work delivers infectious hooks and catchy melodies that instantly stick in your head. Yet the body of work as a whole felt a little lacking in the playfulness presence that Kim had shown in the lead-up to its release. As fans may recall, the debut album’s rollout was impacted by an unfortunate leak, which forced a change in plans. Regardless, “Feed The Beast” serves plenty of dance-pop goodness. Albeit if some of us couldn’t help but crave a bit more.

I was looking forward to the shelved album “Problématique” by Kim. Just hearing the name made me think of her fun and playful side. Especially so in light of her previous EP, “Slut Pop,” that became such a hit. It has seemed plausible she might continue exploring these themes and sounds. Her fans went crazy for it. It would make sense if she followed the trend. By the same token. It surely will not have escaped anyone’s notice how Kim takes pleasure in spicing things up. That she does this with such, charm and sparkle. The leaked “Problématique” oozed with this style of cheeky escapist pop, release.

Listen on Apple Music

I am excited to share that Kim has officially released “Problématique“! (Even since it arrived as a surprise for her fans. Also no doubt in-lieu of volume 3 of “Turn Off The Light” Halloween mixtape that is still much craved by fans). However, this means there will be even more fun times to look forward to on her upcoming “Feed The Beast” world tour. The tour starts in Austin on September 27th for the North American leg and will make its way to the UK and Europe in February/March 2024. It’s sure to be an incredible experience, and I can’t wait to see what Kim has in store for her fans. Bearing in mind the tracks where she appears at her most funnest and playful are “Je T’Adore” and “Treat Me Like A Ho,” I think we can be confident this tour experience will be a blast.

EMERGING ARTIST: MkX https://eqmusicblog.com/emerging-artist-mkx/ Tue, 22 Aug 2023 12:04:50 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=34908 Meet pop newcomer MkX - his approach of only incorporating colourful and pop-emboldened creative ideas into his music is paying off

The post EMERGING ARTIST: MkX appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

It’s interesting how people still assume that only female pop acts can thrive in the bubblegum pop genre. This is nonsense of course, as we have learned stereotyping in this manner is damaging and an outdated way of thinking. It is also imperative to recognize that a male artist can excel in this genre equally well. One such artist is MkX, a triple-threat newcomer from Boston. He has been making waves in his local music scene with dynamic and infectious pop releases. Additionally, he has flexed his songwriting muscles for others as well. By having co-written the track “Young and Wild,” with Kim Petras for K-Pop group TWICE.

Regarding MkX, he doesn’t quite fit into the ‘glam’ label per se but seemingly prefers to be larger than life. While openly admitting, “I like to take everything I do and crank it up to the highest maximum I can“. Whether working with either audio or visual elements. Burgeoning pop-sensation MkX only wants to incorporate the most colourful and pop-emboldened creative ideas into his brand of pop. And it seems like this approach is paying off, especially with his camp, bubblegum pop aesthetic, in mind. His music is a distinct blend of Pop and R&B with high-tech industrial sound design. Using different samples of gadgets and pieces of technology from his childhood, gives the music a unique and nostalgic feel.

App Icon Apple Music

Especially where “Bright Side” the latest track, is concerned. MkX has noticeably put a lot of effort into crafting equally clever and relatable lyrics.

“I’m really into creating records that have a unique level of detail and cleverness in the wordplay but keep them a bit vague so that everyone can connect with them on a personal level”. he explains.

I appreciate artists who inspire people to embrace their individuality and celebrate their uniqueness. Especially, being that this an important message that resonates with many in today’s world. The music video directed by Andy Koeger, combines retro and futuristic elements exuding an uber-level of kitsch. I am impressed that they managed to maintain the distinctive and addictive styling while incorporating such a visually striking aesthetic. “Bright Side” is a perfect example of MkX’s signature 90s/00s-influenced pop style that oozes authenticity. Therefore, it is no surprise that this music will amass broad appeal across different generations.

Listen to “Out of Time” by Slayyyter https://eqmusicblog.com/listen-to-out-of-time-by-slayyyter/ Fri, 16 Jun 2023 09:35:52 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=34646 Slayyyter proves her versatility like never before with "Out of Time." The catchy song makes her a promising new artist that we can't ignore.

The post Listen to “Out of Time” by Slayyyter appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

]]>

I have to admit, it wasn’t until the most recent album, “Troubled Paradise,” that I really started paying attention to wannabe pop star Slayyyter. After trying to make it in the pop scene for a few years, Slayyyter’s debut album in 2021 showed a more subdued side to her DIY pop sound. Where she toned down the bravado and switched up the synth-pop style. I was pleasantly surprised by the results of this evolution. However, she recently linked up with Tove Lo in the support slot of the Swedish pop sensation’s North American leg of the Dirt Femme tour. This aroused my suspicions that we might be hearing more from Slayyyter soon.

Honestly, I was not expecting what Slayyyter just released. “Out of Time” is unquestionably her most pop-oriented track so far, and it’s amazing. It has that 80s/90s vibe that reminds me a lot of Kim Petras, and I just found out that they have the same producer, Vaughn Oliver. No wonder the similarities are there! Oliver has also worked on some of Kim’s iconic hits like “Malibu,” “Sweet Spot,” and “Personal Hell.”

Listen on Apple Music

About “Out of Time,” Slayyyter says… “it was inspired a lot by my own anxieties and insecurities about being a smaller artist in the music industry. This song is a slick 80s rebirth for me about anyone who has ever wanted to be famous.”

Having seen the official visualiser for Slayyyter’s new song. The clip gives a glimpse into what we can expect from this era of her music. There’s a strong theme of Hollywood luxury, celebrity obsessions, dreams and delusions, femme fatales, and vanity. These themes remind me somewhat of Allie X‘s “Super Sunset“. Although, the music on the leading focus single, “Out of Time,” seems to be more in keeping with the style of Kim Petras and Miley Cyrus.

The song “Out of Time” by Slayyyter has super impressed me. This track showcases her musical prowess like never before, and I can’t help but hope that she continues down this path. The combination of indie, synth-pop and 80s is truly, alluring. If she keeps this vibe going, I can see myself becoming a huge fan of Slayyyter in the coming months…
