As I endeavour to catch up on all the exciting music releases that debuted while I was enjoyiny my summer holiday. I am particularly eager to draw attention to Princess Nokia‘s latest track, “Drop Dead Gorgeous.” Although rap isn’t typically the first genre I gravitate toward when exploring new sounds. Nevertheless, I found myself unexpectedly captivated when the song surfaced on my YouTube recommendations. From the moment I pressed play, I was hooked. Thanks mainly to its distinctive, wonky bass line that adds a layer of depth and rhythm, paired with lyrics that are both candid and thought-provoking. This track isn’t just music; it tells a story that resonates, making it an essential listen for those looking to enrich their playlists with something vibrant and unique.

From the very first note, the electro-pop melody captivated me. Yet it was the compelling lyrical narrative that truly hooked me. Princess Nokia serves up a vibrant summer anthem that celebrates bold femininity. It’s no easy task to follow in the footsteps of Charli XCX‘s unforgettable “BRAT,” yet Princess Nokia confidently makes her mark with the audacious matriarchal anthem “Drop Dead Gorgeous.” This track demands attention and resonates with a rebellious spirit that is impossible to ignore.

The visual directed by Sebastian Cabrera Chelin embodies the daring spirit of the suggestive. I haven’t explored King Princess’s music much on the blog. However, her recent journey after leaving the major label system is too compelling to ignore. She has gained a great deal of freedom as a singer-songwriter-producer, and I wondered what new music would result from that. The answers unfolded in her latest releases, “Cry Cry Cry” and its powerful predecessor, “RIP KP.” In these tracks, King Princess seizes the reins with a boldness that radiates throughout the album, showcasing a remarkable blend of renewed spirit and determination. This is the music she was destined to create, and we are assured it’s a thrilling chapter in her artistic evolution.

For a brief moment, I found myself torn over whether to feature today’s track. The title “F*cking Myself” had me questioning if I could genuinely write a blog about it. After some back-and-forth reflection and fueled by my admiration for this artist. I ultimately decided to share the latest release from Zee Machine. At first glance, the explicit title seems crafted for shock value. However, when you listen closely, the lyrical content reveals a deeper narrative. It thoughtfully explores vital themes of body image, confidence, and self-worth, making it a compelling track worth discussing.

Notably, the track by Zee Machine powerfully explores the theme of receiving superficial compliments about one’s appearance, i.e, using the terms handsome or beautiful. Notably it prompts a deeper reflection on whether those giving such praise ever consider the inner beauty that truly defines a person. As an artist, Zee questions whether people are genuinely interested in him or just captivated by his looks. He emphasizes the importance of recognizing the hard work and dedication he puts into refining his artistry. And additionally to bring in a touch of humour and absurdity to the serious nature of the topic, he cheekily concludes the chorus with, “If I woke up in your body I would be f*cking myself.” Lyrics which leaves the listener entertained and thoughtful.

Above all, the track embraces the pop-rock style that fans have come to expect from Zee Machine. This is undoubtedly, why Gen Z has rallied around Chappell in the past twelve months. It’s a compelling opportunity for Zee Machine to follow suit and capture that same audience.

After finally deciding to wade in to support “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” the debut album release of Chappell Roan in September 2023 by getting behind the track “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl”. I had intended to be quicker on the case when the rising alt-pop sensation followed up with new material. However, I sensed something might be forthcoming from her since the announcement went out of her placement as a tour opener for Olivia Rodrigo. What I didn’t consider, of course, was that this would happen while I was away on holiday.

Chappell has been taking the pop world by storm and the phenomenon around her just keeps on growing. Tours sell out, venues get an upgrade and sell out again in no time at all. Which is similar to what happened with the UK dates scheduled for September. Furthermore, the situation is the same wherever she goes.

Unquestionably, everything about Chappell Roan’s artistry and brand is distinctive. From her image taking cues from the Drag community to the deeply vulnerable, lyrical narratives of the songs themselves. Sharing the new track, “Good Luck, Babe!” Chappell reveals…

“I needed to write a song about a common situationship within queer relationships — where someone is struggling with coming to terms with themselves. It’s a song about wishing well to someone who is avoidant of their true feelings”

What stands out about Chappell is that her lyrical narratives are super fresh. In “Good Luck, Babe!” she is candid, to the point and sassy, which appear to be her go-to traits. In a musical sense, the single is the perfect fit as the first follow-up release after the album. And since undoubtedly the rest of 2024 is filled up with festivals, appearances and tour dates, there is every indication her ascent to the upper echelons of the pop sphere will soon become stratospheric.

With her unique talent and personality, Chappell is a trailblazer in her own right. She has the potential to make a significant impact on the music industry, in fact it is happening as we speak. And if there’s anyone who could surpass Hayley Kiyoko‘s moniker of “Lesbian Jesus,” it’s her.

I know it may seem to some people I am jumping on the Chappell Roan bandwagon because it took until the rising star’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” debut album was released for me to write about her. However, let me be clear, I’ve been aware of Chappell Roan for quite some time now. It’s just that I didn’t really pay attention until recently. I can’t believe I missed out on the amazing track “My Kink Is Karma” which is featured on the album. Looking back to a year ago, I should have trusted my instincts and given her a blog feature earlier. Instead, I unfathomably allowed my early discovery of Chappell Roan to slide until press releases started dropping into my inbox. But better late than never, right?

However, I do feel that countries outside the USA, including the UK, still have some catching up to do when it comes to recognizing the talent of this young artist. Concerning the recent single “Hot To Go!.” This song has a strong cheerleader vibe to it, which may not necessarily appeal to the European audience. But then again, Chappell dropped her album and new single “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl” simultaneously, and I have a feeling that this particular song will definitely gain traction in Europe. It has all the elements to be a hit among the discerning musical tastes of the European crowd.

The Jackie Zhou! directed music video is nothing but memorable. Chappell Roan looks incredible in her sci-fi goth drag queen outfit and the visuals were just as colourful and vibrant as the music itself. Even Zolita made a cameo appearance! I really think this song deserves more exposure and would be perfect for the new season of Drag Race UK. Maybe they could even use it as background music for the show’s TV adverts…

With many of our favourite and well-loved pop queens absent from the pop scene just now, the pop world for Kylie Minogue really is her oyster at the minute. Additionally, since we’ve been left to “Padam Padam” to our heart’s content for four months and with the “Tension” album, September 22nd release closely looming. Another taste of Kylie’s highly anticipated long-player is sorely required. Happily, the wait time is over. The Aussie pop princess has released the album title track “Tension,” and the supporting Sophie Muller-directed video to boot.

When first announcing the album “Tension.” Kylie has spoken about this record and said…

“it is a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic highs! I felt so much freedom when I recorded it.”

Thus, noticing the impactful piano-house opening bars of the song “Tension” should not come as a surprise to anyone. The similarity to “Padam Padam” should also not be overlooked. The new track “Tension” also relies on driving heavy beats as a steer. Yet, another striking similarity shared with “Padam Padam” when using highly playful and suggestive lyrics, she continues to inject a fun element into the new song. She describes the heightened feelings she is experiencing that she hopes will lead to an intimate encounter. A kind of Kylie musical foreplay, if you will.

Using frequent collaborator director Sophie Muller. The music video was never anticipated as a shabby sham either. In this new clip, stylish, elegantly dressed Kylie enters into a ‘retro-future’ alternate reality, where she engages with cyber entities of herself. What all these versions of Kylie have in common, is their craving for intimacy.

However, since the song isn’t as immediate as “Padam Padam” was, in this instance. It is the strangely alluring sci-fi indebted video that takes the lead in the memorable stakes. With no hint of where Kylie might be taking us from here in terms of a follow-up single, post “Tension” album release. I sincerely hope, because the pop princess herself said, she didn’t anticipate such a reaction to “Padam Padam.” That there is a banger on this sixteenth album, that will outdo the phenomenal “Padam Padam“.

I’ve been following Rose Gray‘s career for a while now, and her recent track “Ecstasy” really caught my attention. Her music has always been great, but this new release just has that extra something special that makes it stand out. And now with “Happiness,” she’s done it again – combining dancefloor-friendly beats with pop sensibility to create a track that’s impossible not to love.

Lunar June treads a path of sonic bliss with her dreamy electronic pop reawakening. The debut EP, “jaded/faded,” is evidence of Lunar’s prodigious talent and great potential. Further, affirming that the music she is currently making has much to enthral.

It is rare for a newcomer to hold nothing back. And ALF clearly knows what he wants to convey in his songs. There is a great deal of lyrical bite embodied in lines like “Letting you just rip me apart to fill my heart’s void, You’re killing me.” In terms of music, this track packs a notable punch. Yet, the vocals are suitably endearing. Undoubtedly he comes into his element when song-writing. In any event, I fully expect ALF to gain momentum.

Gabi Goldman is a talented musician with an absolutely magnetic voice. Her debut track, “Body Heat,” is a shimmering masterpiece that will inevitably catch the attention of anyone who loves lush, gorgeous pop music with meaningful lyrics.

A track-list for the Aussie pop icon’s forthcoming sixteenth studio album “Tension” has been revealed, confirming the song’s inclusion. It was also announced “Tension” will be released on September 22nd. Therefore with that end tied up, the promotion can begin directly with the “Tension” lead single “Padam Padam.” A track which is stylistically diverse in contrast to the pre-album announcement teaser “10 Out of 10.”

Unlike the most recent “Disco” album era. Where Kylie caught our attention with sparkling and glittery dancefloor sounds. From the euphorically transcending vocals down to sultry beats, “Padam Padam,” produced by Lostboy (Griff, Anne-Marie, Tiesto) could not be more different. Rather than present us with feel-good vibes. With “Tension,” and noticeably in “Padam Padam,” the Aussie pop princess invites listeners on an auditory pleasure-seeking adventure of electronic laced beats. Creating a sound that is not only haunting but enticing.

“I started this album with an open mind and a blank page. Unlike my last two albums there wasn’t a ‘theme’.” (This album is), “about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song. I wanted to celebrate each songs individuality and to dive into that freedom.
