They strongly hinted at this ambition with their recent track, “Lock Me Up!” released in February. As summer approaches, excitement builds around Tears & Gearz as these talented collaborators officially unveil “Delusional,” marking the launch of their partnership as a formidable duo. Guess what the accompanying music video, consists of Bentley and Zee merely hanging out. But nevertheless, this ordinary situation is a vibe.

Seriously everything Zee Machine and Bentley Robles puts out is a notable fan favourite. I hear no different in “Delusional” the official debut of Tears & Gearz.

A desperate bid to erase every trace of their exes. The haunting lyrics—”As I look up at this town, think I wanna burn it down. All the city lines, all the places we went out. If you aren’t around, someone lock me up.” Furthermore reveal their angst and a willingness to resort to vandalism in order to obliterate any reminder of their shared past. For a brief moment, I found myself torn over whether to feature today’s track. The title “F*cking Myself” had me questioning if I could genuinely write a blog about it. After some back-and-forth reflection and fueled by my admiration for this artist. I ultimately decided to share the latest release from Zee Machine. At first glance, the explicit title seems crafted for shock value. However, when you listen closely, the lyrical content reveals a deeper narrative. It thoughtfully explores vital themes of body image, confidence, and self-worth, making it a compelling track worth discussing.

Notably, the track by Zee Machine powerfully explores the theme of receiving superficial compliments about one’s appearance, i.e, using the terms handsome or beautiful. Notably it prompts a deeper reflection on whether those giving such praise ever consider the inner beauty that truly defines a person. As an artist, Zee questions whether people are genuinely interested in him or just captivated by his looks. He emphasizes the importance of recognizing the hard work and dedication he puts into refining his artistry. And additionally to bring in a touch of humour and absurdity to the serious nature of the topic, he cheekily concludes the chorus with, “If I woke up in your body I would be f*cking myself.” Lyrics which leaves the listener entertained and thoughtful.

Above all, the track embraces the pop-rock style that fans have come to expect from Zee Machine. However, the incorporation of spoken word interludes adds a fresh dimension, reminiscent of Chappell Roan’s captivating approach in her stunning debut album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.” Moreover, I truly believe that Chappell’s impressive success and her bold, authentic lyricism have the potential to inspire Zee Machine to explore a similar artistic direction. This year, listeners have wholeheartedly embraced this unapologetic style of storytelling, which creates a genuine connection with fans. It’s a relatable way to engage, akin to chatting with friends. This is undoubtedly, why Gen Z has rallied around Chappell in the past twelve months. It’s a compelling opportunity for Zee Machine to follow suit and capture that same audience.

Upon unveiling a new era, brandishing a new electro-pop sound direction in his recent track “Everything is Beautiful.” The emerging producer and singer-songwriter Kai Bosch, proclaims this era kicks off his campaign of becoming “the biggest gay popstar in the universe.” This statement echoes even more true with the release of his sophomore track “Rodeo Romeo.”

Furthermore, it has emerged Kai has said specifically with intent, “With my new material I’ve really been trying to take myself less seriously both lyrically and sonically“. Returning to the new track “Rodeo Romeo” he adds, “…and for me, this is my crack at a Eurovision-worthy belter. It’s a campy, it’s got the guitar solo and I get to belt for 14 seconds straight“.

Whereas “Everything is Beautiful” serves as a dynamic and extravagant introduction to the fresh sonic landscape that Kai is venturing into. The follow-up single “Rodeo Romeo” delves deeper into the intricate emotions tied to infatuation. In this track, Kai captures the exhilarating yet tumultuous feelings of being drawn to someone so intensely that the thought of letting them go seems impossible. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of obsession and longing. Thus, encapsulating the push and pull of wanting to be close while grappling with the fear of losing them.

This is a situation, Kai says… “I saw it like a bucking bronco, refusing to lose someone even if they’re trying their hardest to fling you off”.

Moreover, I can only speculate that Kai’s increasing number of festival appearances—such as those at Boardmasters, Latitude, and The Great Escape—has played a significant role in shaping his musical evolution. These vibrant events often become a melting pot of creativity, allowing artists to draw inspiration from diverse audiences and performances. As a result, Kai’s sound has transformed into something truly uplifting and euphoric, designed to resonate with listeners and create memorable experiences. This evolution particularly shines through in his creation of these latest anthemic pop songs. These are not only catchy but also ideal for radio play and curated playlists. Therefore, making them highly sought after in today’s music scene.

In the same vein as the captivating sounds of Bentley Robles and Zee Machine. Moreover, Kai Bosch embodies the essence of main pop boy energy. This infectious style is clearly on the rise on both sides of the Atlantic. And I couldn’t be more excited about it.

I wanted to share with EQ Music Blog readers that I have found it particularly difficult to contain my excitement about the release of the “High Definition Lover” visualizer. Namely this is owing to, my witnessing of Bentley Robles performing his new track live in London in May. As part of the Zee Machine co-headlined Tears & Gearz tour. The song has lingered with me you see. “High Definition Lover” marks the beginning of a new era for Bentley, which he describes as ‘chaotic’. Moreover, the latest chapter is a stark contrast to the themes of heartbreak and failed relationships that listeners encountered in Bentley’s “Ugly Crier” EP.

“High Definition Lover” is an electrifying track written by Bentley Robles, Dominic Florio and Myylo. The track captivates the senses with its vibrant electro-pop sound and high-energy beats. The music builds to a chorus that exudes a danceable rave-like influence, creating an exhilarating experience. Notably, this larger-than-life musicality aligns perfectly with the song’s fantastical theme. And which revolves around the excitement of fantasizing about a crush on a TV personality.

“Have you ever wished your fav fictional crush was real? That the leading man or woman in a movie could jump out of the screen and be with you? Well I have & “HIGH DEFINITION LOVER” is about that fantasy”. Bentley exclaims!

I opted to hold off on writing about this song when it was released three weeks ago. My reason for doing so was that I had firsthand experience of Bentley’s captivating showmanship during his live performance in London for the Tears & Gearz tour. Moreover, I decided to wait for the visualiser release in the hope that Bentley would infuse the same enthusiastic energy from his live set into the video clip. Happily, the “High Definition Lover” visualiser brings exactly that.

Bentley confidently brings forth a unique and captivating sound for the masses. Whereupon his infectious brand of fantastical technicolour pop is unstoppable. Without a doubt, as the new era dawns, Bentley Robles is primed to push his way to the forefront of main boy pop, all over again.

I’m in awe of Zee Machine and the journey towards the release of their sophomore EP. From the infectious tracks “The Radio,” “Good Boy,” “Anyone But Him” featuring Bentley Robles, to the final lead-in track “Worse.” All of which provided a taste of the excellent pop mastery to come. With the EP “Can I Be Honest?” now released, I can confidently say that the entire body of work that explores the stages of love and loss after break-up, is nothing short of incredible. Furthermore, I feel certain I have said this before. It feels like Zee Machine’s time has well and truly arrived.

I remember the moment when I first listened to the track “The Radio.” It was an unforgettable experience that left a lasting impression on me. Every aspect of the song struck a chord with me, from the profound emotional depth to the thought-provoking lyrical content and the captivating melody. It is like a masterpiece of pop music, perfectly crafted in every way. Furthermore, being fortunate to hear this one live when the Bentley Robles and Zee Machine co-headlined Tears and Gearz tour came to London in May genuinely impressed upon me Zee Machine’s vocal capabilities in a new light. I was and still am in a complete state of ecstasy and awe.

Furthermore, little did I dare to imagine Zee Machine might similarly render me awestruck again, so soon. I was wrong, however. The three new tracks, “I’m In Love (With Everyone),” “Heartbreakery,” and “Killshot,” are absolute pop dynamite. Through the songs on the EP, Zee shares their deeply vulnerable thoughts, offering a powerful, often witty reflection on the complexities of relationships.

“I wanted the most elevated, exhilarating take on a break up record I could make. It’s steamy, petty, sad, furious, messy, and joyful. I sang my ass off, wrote my heart out, and played like my life depended on it. No matter who you are, you’ll relate to something. I’ve never felt so sure about anything I’ve created.” Zee Machine exclaims!

Hurrah! Pride month officially begins this weekend. And yet, even before the celebrations get into full swing. The anthems have already started to come out in readiness. Ahead of the curve, Platinum Grammy Award-winning songwriter, producer, remixer, and DJ Dave Audé’, is among the first super-keen musicians to share a musical offering in honour of Pride Month, 2024. Dave, who has notched up over 135 #1s to his name, has chosen to give the iconic U2 track “Pride” (In the name of Love), the Irish rock band’s, 1984 hit a new interpretation. Moreover, Dave is assisted by the help of a few notable friends from the pop and dance music realms.

Yes, it isn’t just the likes of Bob Geldof and Midge Ure (Band Aid) or Harry Belafonte with Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie (USA for Africa). That can bring a glittering array of pop stars together. Similarly, Dave Audé has assembled an exemplary cast of artists keen to spread the universal message of equality and love embodied in the U2 self-penned track.

Joining Dave Audé on this incredible Pride anthem, is Andy Bell (Erasure), and famed American singer-songwriter Crystal Waters. Australian vocal powerhouse Greg Gould, PLUMB (US electronic, dance artist) and dynamic songstress Sarah Potenza. Soulful pop artist Wyn Starks and lastly, but by no means least, fabulous Zee Machine. (The one and same whose vocals blew my mind last week at the UK shows of the Tears and Gearz tour with Bentley Robles). Furthermore, you might recall, that Zee Machine also teamed up with Dave Audé in 2022 on the dancefloor banger “Motions.” Well, it is Zee that Dave calls upon to open this glorious new interpretation of “Pride“. Truly, what an honour it is for Zee to follow in the footsteps of a pop/rock great such as Bono. Finally, the breakout is happening for them, and the recognition is well deserved.

Therefore, this weekend, throw open your windows. Turn up the volume and give your neighbours a joyous earful of this uplifting new version of “Pride.”

Proceeds from this release go to the non-profit LGBTQ advocacy organisation GLADD.

Zee’s “Worse” is a truly beautiful and bittersweet track that will pull at your heartstrings. The lyrics delve into the complexities of relationships, addressing the toxic and flawed dynamics that can tear them apart. And yet, despite the realisation that the problems within the relationship stem from the individuals involved, they refuse to give up on each other. And, even though they know this might lead to further hurt, they remain willing to try and make it work.
