It’s no surprise that Kim Petras is set to perform at PRIDE events this summer, as her presence has become a staple of these celebrations. Currently, collaborations with the dynamic duo Frost Children are creating a significant buzz in the music industry. Merely noticing this girlie collaboration on paper was enough to have me salivating for the “ATTENTION!” release day. After the summer of Kylie followed by the summer of Charli XCX, the successor the summer of Kesha is now undoubtedly in full swing. I’ll admit to not being fully switched on into Kesha mode until the recent arrival of “Boy Crazy“. And while it took me a little longer than most to jump back on the Kesha train, she had me at the mention of boys and certainly has me gripped even tighter, bringing on her upcoming “TiTS OUT” tour openers Slayyyter and Rose Gray. I mean, it’s just such a cool idea but also embodies the essence of love and connection Kesha is striving for in the new music and tour in equal measure.

It’s clear that the July 4th (Independence Day) release of the album – “.(PERIOD)” is not just a celebration; it’s a strategic move by Kesha to grab the spotlight with her “ATTENTION!” initiative. Equally exciting is the introduction of SMASH, a groundbreaking community platform designed for creators to connect, collaborate, and hire one another on their own terms. We can absolutely count on these artists to light up the stage during the tour with an unforgettable performance of this hit! Plus, it’s exciting to see Slayyyter and Rose Gray following in Tom Aspaul‘s footsteps as he recently opened for Kesha’s UK shows. Each of them is making waves as independent artists and gaining well-deserved recognition!

I’ve been overwhelmed by the fantastic new album releases lately. And with the bank holiday weekend here, it’s the perfect opportunity to share an exciting album review. Whether you’re gearing up for a lively BBQ, hitting the road for an adventure, or just lounging at home with some snacks and a flavoursome beverage. You’ll doubtless want to discover fresh music to elevate your experience. With this in mind, not long ago, I teased that pop sensation Tom Aspaul was getting ready to unveil his third album. Well, the moment has finally arrived. Tom’s highly anticipated album “Cabin Fever” is out now, and it’s a must-listen!

Sharing some thoughts in December 2024 on the first single release “Sauna/Cabin,” I noted… “With an undeniable spark ignited, Tom vividly relives the adventures of his mind-altering Swedish encounter, captivating listeners and leaving them wanting more“.

Continuing on, Tom elaborates…

“I went to Sweden to relax post-tour and ended up staying awake for two days almost losing my mind. It was not conducive to relaxation at all. I would like to go on record saying I would never recommend LSD or any type of drug, we were very stupid to think we had any sort of control. However, we got through it together and it spawned an album. Over the last 18 months, I’ve been reliving every second of it with Gil Lewis (producer/songwriter) and I’m so thrilled (and relieved) to share this crazy experience”.

When listening to “Cabin Fever” for the first time, it’s impossible not to notice the dramatic shift in musical direction. Coupled with the meticulous refinement of pop stylings throughout the album. Producer Gil Lewis employs an impressive array of production techniques. Thus creating innovative soundscapes that merge seamlessly with Tom’s lush, pop-rich vocals. This blend not only elevates the overall audio experience but also highlights Tom’s profound lyrical artistry with striking authenticity and emotional depth. In comparison to the vibrant disco and dance-pop aesthetics of his earlier albums, “Black Country Disco” and “Life In Plastic“. “Cabin Fever” offers a more introspective and mature perspective. Above all inviting listeners to engage with the themes of personal growth and transformation embedded in each track.

The album’s focus singles, “Drama” and “That Girl,” powerfully embody a mature musical and deeply confessional lyrical perspective. “Drama,” for example, delves into introspection and profound soul-searching. Yet Tom skillfully juxtaposes this heavy emotional weight with a self-directed music video featuring an outfit evocative of a Shakespearean bard. “The drama has defined me, who am I reminded of?” he sings, inviting us to ponder on this thought-provoking dialogue.

Another standout moment of musical diversity arises in “That Girl,” a collaboration with Gil Lewis and Stefan Storm of The Sound of Arrows. This track poignantly captures the longing for a carefree existence, as Tom reflects on the longing and isolation experienced as a gay man. He laments, “I never ever got affection from the guys, no attention from anyone, ooh I didn’t have a chance, just a fear of love and rejection. Another lonely young queer in a small town looking for a change to come (But it never did).” The accompanying visualizer is a breathtaking display of animated psychedelia. The clip is crafted by Jill Chrisp of Studio Shuggi, enhancing the song’s emotional impact and allure. But let me tell you, a display of phenomenal artistry carries all the way through this project.

Personal and intense at times. Ultimately, thought-provoking and revealing, “Cabin Fever” is stellar work. Essential listening.

With her highly anticipated headline performance at the vibrant Mighty Hoopla festival just days away. The pop sensation Kesha has excitedly unveiled a fresh and electrifying track from her upcoming album – “.(PERIOD)“. The new anthem, titled “Boy Crazy.” captures her enthusiastic celebration of romantic attraction. As she confidently exclaims, “I’m obsessive, I’m fixating. I want all the boys lately.” The infectious energy of the song builds with her declaration, “You’re my fix and you’re my craving. Oh oh, I’m boy crazy. Gimme gimme gimme all the boys.” Delivered in a catchy and irresistible refrain that promises to get fans singing along. Especially so at lively Pride events where celebration and self-expression take centre stage.

It’s exciting to see new artists bringing fresh energy to the music scene. It’s also true that we don’t hear as many novelty summer songs as we used to. The trend seems to have faded away over time. However, I recently discovered an independent singer-songwriter named Novul, who is anything but a novelty act. Although her larger-than-life pop tracks are definitely getting people’s attention, especially her latest release, “Bang Bang.” I’ve noticed that in her vocal delivery, Novul sounds a bit like the old-style Kesha, which is totally cool.

Anyway, I think that as a whole, summer anthems have become way too serious, recently. But I have found a song that offers some light-hearted relief. “Bang Bang” by Novul is the perfect summer anthem. It’s fun and upbeat, and it has a catchy beat that will make you want to dance. Novul says, that she “wanted to think of a word that is not only fun to say but also evokes strong feelings when you say it. “Bang” instantly came to mind” and it fits perfectly with the song.

Whenever I hear this track, I can’t resist bursting out into song. It’s just so catchy and irresistible! Novul has really outdone themselves with this one – it’s the kind of track that sneaks up on you and takes over your mind without warning. It’s truly infectious!

The effect however is not only reserved for this song “Bang Bang” but for all of her tracks as well. Also, did you know that Novul’s incredible talent caught already the attention of music.com, Pharrell’s company? It’s amazing to think that her song “Chips n’ Dip” was promoted on billboards all over Los Angeles – what an exciting experience that must have been for her!

If “Bang Bang” tells us something about Novul. It is that she never hesitates to express herself and promotes self-assurance through her music and bold personality, which creates a powerful combination.

The horrible truth is, I have a need to be extra selective with my music choices to write about at the moment. I am preparing to go away on my summer holiday in a few days. Thus, my time is at a premium just now. More than ever, I am sharing with our readers the new music which strikes a chord with me most. It may surprise readers that I am digging into a song written to promote a leading cannabis-infused beverage in collaboration with Weedmaps. But not without good reason, I am gunning for this track. Founded by queer people, Drink Producer Cann is an established company. They launch their pride campaign for 2022 with the anthem “Taste So Good” (The Cann Song). The song and video feature an all-star diverse cast from the LGBTQ+ community.

Independent pop singer-songwriter VINCINT is joined by Hayley Kiyoko and MNEK on this Leland-penned track. Also along for the ride is pop royalty Kesha, who links up for a verse of her own.

Botanical infused beverages may not appeal to everyone. That said. The market for drinks boosting health benefits such as those associated with CBD is starting to fill up supermarket shelves alongside hard seltzer and kombucha. It is an immense growth area and strand of the plant-based revolution. It was only a matter of time before drinks of these kinds received the full-blown promotion treatment to rival Coca Cola and Pepsi.

The lyrics
“A little different can taste so good (taste so good). What a feeling (I knew it would, I knew it would).” Also, apply when celebrating our differences. And why in this campaign, support from the LGBTQ+ community works two-fold.

The track is that good. That if we were to block out all mentions of the drink campaign, the song would still hold up on its own and proudly.

The song got me pure and simple. Together with the rallying message it sends. Why else would I commit to writing about a product available in the USA only and not the UK, where I am based? “Taste So Good” primary use may be that of an advertisement, but I’ll say this. The track from VINCINT ft Hayley Kiyoko and MNEK is a whole lot better than many of the pop songs released in recent weeks.

Who is featured?

This week the 78th Golden Globe Awards took place. The awards recognizing excellence in film, both American and international, and American television. We couldn’t help but notice Sia had been nominated for the Best motion picture – musical or comedy award for her movie “Music” when we were thumbing through the noms. (We cover (Raj covers) film reviews as well. If you hadn’t noticed.) What can we say, other than Sia was robbed by “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.” So we’ve taken it upon ourselves to crown Sia queen of the March 2021 “This Beat Is Poptronik” playlist. Bagging the top spot with “Together” a song brimming with positivity and hope.

With a melody as slinky smooth as buttercream and just as sweet. Newcomer Jack Newsome has two playlist placements. Start with his latest jam “Arms.” “The Year The World Stood Still” will help you get another feel of his artistry. A potent singer-songwriter force, we have a very good feeling about.

We have never heard the Billy Idol track “Eyes Without a Face” sound so chill, but we are in rapture with the new Poolside remix. The blissed-out production is totally a new flavour to behold.

Long live Baby Queen! I’m pretty sure “Raw Thoughts” is my most streamed track of 2021, already. No coincidence then, Bella Latham has made the playlist twice. With her lyrics, she, is so, brilliant and being hugely relevant at the same time. Surely, “These Drugs” is as deep as it gets. It is so raw.

Sound On. “Bad Tattoo” from HYYTS is dreamy delicious, electro-pop teamed with, an intelligent social commentary that takes you on a journey.

Sweden’s flyckt shares innovative track “Love Is Overrated.” Arresting soundscapes, palette cleansing and very addictive.

The pop is strong on “Champagne Butterflies” from Ireland’s Wild Youth. Irridescent, addictive indie-pop met with synth grooves.

Drink up the summer vibes. Alfie Templeman makes us aware he’s the hottest new indie-pop talent to watch with brilliantly good “Everybody’s Gonna Love Somebody.”

DISCOVER rising electro-pop innovator Leif Coffield who will revitalise your senses with mesmerising, boundary-pushing track “Say My Name.”

A gem. Drew Sycamore – “45 Fahrenheit Girl” a little, reminiscent of Miley Cyrus. Deserves to be a Europop smash. Pop with an electronic heartbeat.

Digitized, glitchy sound. Hyper-pop stylings, similar to Charli XCX, A.G. Cook & SOPHIE. If “Soda Pop” indicates how Apollo Monroe does, exciting & edgy. We hope there’s more similarly buzzy, forward-thinking music ready to launch.

Well, I must say, Sam Feldt and Kesha unleashing their collaboration “Stronger” turned out to be the anthem I didn’t know I needed. The track’s release headed up the weekend, in the usual mega drop of New Music Friday singles. It is a track which sounds more accessible by far when reflecting upon many of the singer songwriter’s recent offerings. Adding leverage to what is already widely known about Kesha, she is an artist who has more than one string to her musical bow.

I’m not hugely familiar with the Dutch DJ Sam Feldt, apart from being aware of the DJ/producer carving out a career by working in the house genre. Kesha, on the other hand, was better clued up about the Dutchman. As it was she who approached Sam with the idea for “Stronger.” I think considering the stresses and strain we are presently living under. Setting her sights on creating an empowering anthem, with Sam Feldt, which can also be danced along to makes good sense. It also brings Kesha back into the loop with mainstream accessible, pop stylings. It’s understandably been a while since she’s launched a fierce pop-centric track onto the masses. I can’t think of any pop star better equipped or showing more resilience, in the face of adversity than Kesha to promote the message of seeking ways to become a stronger person.

It is lovely to hear, her powerhouse vocals once again, underpinned with pulsing electro-pop colour. I also like the epic, Andrew Donoho (Janelle Monet, Khalid, Carly Rae Jepsen) directed, music video which features Kesha engaged in a brawl with herself. Who doesn’t love a good versus evil battle? Kesha uses this brief to highlight the struggle to achieve balance in life. 2020 tested us to the limits. Whereas Sam Feldt and Kesha are determined to lead us out of twelve months of trauma by building us up “Stronger” with their mighty anthem. “Stronger” is the best chance in a very long time to land Kesha back on the pop radar where she belongs.
