The art of collaboration truly shines on the track “Remedy.” While I wasn’t previously familiar with the LA-based artist Joey Miceli, his collaborator LEXXE, known as the disco witch, is someone I know well from her captivating solo projects I’ve covered extensively on the blog. It’s precisely LEXXE’s unique style that piqued my interest in “Remedy,” as I couldn’t envision her veering far from her distinct dark synth-pop sound. However, it’s apparent Joey also recognized her extraordinary vocal talent. Thus inviting her to bring an additional layer of depth and emotion to the song. The result is a mesmerizing blend that highlights the power of collaboration.

I believe Joey made an astute decision by launching his sophomore album era with a collaborative track, clearly illustrating his commitment to evolving as an artist. LEXXE, with their otherworldly touch, is an outstanding choice to accompany him on “Remedy.” A song that masterfully fuses a bass-heavy synth-pop style with a cinematic soundscape, wrapped around an emotionally raw narrative. The lyrics vividly portray the disintegration of a friendship or relationship that felt painfully one-sided. Subequently, serving as a powerful anthem for anyone who has ever felt emotionally overlooked.

“Sometimes that pain can be so massive,” Miceli shares. “I was more invested in people who couldn’t reciprocate. I knew once I reimagined the song with Santino, I heard LEXXE on it. I’m so lucky she was excited to bring it to life with me.”

The single heralds the beginning of the “Pretenders” era—an ambitious album that confronts the intricate facades we adopt in our unrelenting quest for love, professional success, and societal validation. In “Remedy,” Miceli transcends mere expression of heartbreak; he powerfully lays bare the deep, visceral yearning for genuine connection. This song captures the raw, often tumultuous emotions that accompany our desire for intimacy, illuminating the struggles and vulnerabilities that we all face in our relationships. Through evocative lyrics and poignant melodies, Miceli invites listeners to explore their own experiences with longing and authenticity.

Joey Miceli and LEXXE really came through with this deeply heartfelt track. The authentic lyrical allure of “Remedy” is especially gripping.

Watch “Tantrum” by Bentley Robles https://eqmusicblog.com/watch-tantrum-by-bentley-robles/ Tue, 17 Sep 2024 13:58:10 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=37528 In dynamic new track "Tantrum", paired with a chaotic but fun video. Bentley Robles chronicles his frustrations getting his music heard as an independent pop artist

Another track from the new era of the main pop boy Bentley Robles is here. Following closely behind the vibrant electro releases, “High Definition Lover,” and “COBRA.” Bentley shares his really authentic and direct lyricism in a dynamic new song “Tantrum.” It is important to note, this is a track he has written to express his annoyance with the music industry. Namely when as an independent artist he is doing everything in his power to get his music heard. The frustration felt becomes somewhat overwhelming, specifically when he can’t quite get the numbers up and he’s feeling the struggle with getting notable people in the music industry on board with his music. Understandably, the frustration becomes too much to bear, so he contemplates acting up a little in a bid to grab attention in any way he can.

Bentley has been grinding away in a musical sense, releasing tracks since 2019. Amassed an army of fans internationally and earned acclaim from notable music blogs and magazines. Played some iconic venues and yet, the next level of fame he craves eludes him. A song such as “Tantrum” could be taken in jest or viewed as tongue-in-cheek. Yet I think Bentley makes valid points by speaking in a style that is as real as it gets. And if this means Bentley is acting BRAT, I love that he is making his feelings known incredibly unapologetically. So bring it on Bentley, I say.

A music video directed by Alexa San Román and choreographed by LEXXE shows Bentley wandering the streets walking off his frustrated state. He’s working through the chaos and trying to keep a lid on his freaking out, outbursts. The truth is he is really near to boiling point. And we can’t say we haven’t had warning about any impending outbursts or fits of rage. In fact, I tend to agree since the music and songwriting are ace, Bentley’s artistic musicianship is worthy of much greater recognition.

Furthermore, after teasing singles, “High Definition Lover“, “COBRA” and “Tantrum,” Bentley announces the “Chaotic Erotica” EP releases on October, 10th pre-save it HERE

After returning from my trip to Ireland. I’ve decided to forgo exhausting myself catching up on all the music releases I’ve missed this week. However, there’s one exception— I couldn’t resist sharing “Disco Witch,” the latest track from NYC-based dark-pop artist Lexxe. Before I’m ready to dive into all the new releases out today.

Furthermore, I would like to highlight that Lexxe has been featured on the blog before with her track “X” and as a collaborator on the Bentley Robles song “I Just Wanna Dance.” I am particularly eager to continue showing my support for Lexxe. This is because she is clearly an up-and-coming artist with a unique and captivating style that makes her artistry truly stand out.

With a diverse background spanning various artistic disciplines, Lexxe has left a significant mark as a dancer and has equally impressed with her musical endeavours. Known for her distinctive and captivating synth-pop style, Lexxe’s music is swiftly gaining popularity. In her latest track, “Disco Witch,” Lexxe embarks on a mission to mesmerize her audience. Her goal is to reach out to troubled souls seeking solace and healing, using her enchanting synth-pop melodies and empowering, uplifting lyrics as a source of comfort and refuge.

When considering the timing of the release of “Disco Witch,” one might ponder whether the summer solstice. A time traditionally linked to spiritual awakening, could have provided a more auspicious moment. This period is often marked by the performance of ancient rites designed to ward off malicious forces and bring prosperity to romantic relationships. Notably, these themes somewhat appear to mirror the sentiments conveyed in the lyrics of Lexxe’s composition “Disco Witch.”

What LEXXE offers the music world is a distinctive blend of nostalgic vibes and fresh innovation. Her contributions stand as multiple achievements, showcasing her as an empowering and an alluring unconventional figure in the pop scene. I find her infusion of quirkiness into pop music refreshing, and her tracks immerse me in synth-pop dreams. It’s not too late to join in as the party is just beginning. And her new single “Disco Witch” reinforces LEXXE as an artist deserving of attention.

Throughout the "Ugly Crier" EP, Bentley Robles leaves an impression with confessional lyrics & electrifying electro-pop sound

There’s nothing as satisfying to see a talented electro-pop artist skyrocketing to success. I remember featuring Bentley Robles as my first emerging artist of this year. However, it is remarkable noting how far he has come in such a short amount of time. His track “Salvatore” really caught my attention and showed me how unique and special his sound was. Similarly, he’s continued to impress with each new release. It is not just the bold and playful commentary he uses liberally, but also the fizzing synth-pop sound he has claimed as his signature brand that keeps me truly transfixed.

Now, after a string of lead-in tracks, “Hope U Cry,” “Side Effects,” “I Just Wanna Dance (with LEXXE)” and “How To Ruin Everything.” The highly anticipated “Ugly Crier” EP is finally out. This debut body of work from Bentley is a product of enduring heartbreak and the collapse of romantic relationships. Yet, instead of shielding in the shimmering synth-pop beats, in this release he fully embraces the title “Ugly Crier” title and furthermore, owns it completely and authentically. Bentley reminds us that everyone experiences heartbreak and it’s healthy to cry ugly tears about it. The EP emphasizes a powerful message easily understood by anyone, (she’s, he’s, they’s, them’s) regardless of gender identity. Right, Bentley?

Listen on Apple Music

As a passionate supporter of Bentley’s music, I am keen to share my enthusiasm for his latest release, the “Ugly Crier” EP. With many of its tracks already featured on the blog, I can confidently say that this body of work is a testament to Bentley’s growth as an artist. The opening track, “God Is A F*ckboy,” is a powerful and unapologetic anthem of liberation after heartbreak. Its confessional lyrics are accompanied by an electrifying electro-pop melody that’s sure to leave a lasting impression. There’s little more for me to add other than to further urge everyone to give this EP a listen. Experience Bentley’s bold and authentic approach to music firsthand.

Question. EQ Music Blog readers, have you been wondering who my current favourite emerging artist is? I have to say, without a doubt, that NYC-based synth-pop artist Bentley Robles is absolutely killing it right now. His music is simply magnetic and alluring, and I can’t seem to get enough of his incredible synth tracks. Ever since I discovered him at the start of this year, I’ve had his songs on repeat nonstop. Whenever I press play on one of Bentley’s tracks, I just know that my ears are in for a real treat.

Even though lately, in his songs he’s been singing about break-ups and heartache in an unabashed confessional lyrical style. Bentley still manages to add an uplifting element into the equation. It’s like a fizzing synth-pop mastery that brings a sense of hope and positivity to the mix.

Today Bentley is excited to share he recently teamed up with fellow queer artist LEXXE for a new track called “I Just Wanna Dance.” It’s a bit of a departure from his usual style, but it feels like it was so much fun to collaborate and let loose. Instead of dwelling on heartache and heartbreak, they both just wanted to dance those feelings out. They hope you’ll give it a listen and maybe even dance along with them!

I absolutely love the music video directed by Alexa San Roman! It’s such a liberating three minutes of Bentley and LEXXE just cutting loose and showing off their best dancefloor moves. I must say, they really do lend a new meaning to the term dancing queens. And don’t even get me started on “I Just Wanna Dance” by Bentley Robles. It’s one of those tracks that I can’t help but turn up to the max, without even hesitating or considering my next-door neighbours. It’s just that good!

EMERGING ARTIST: LEXXE https://eqmusicblog.com/emerging-artist-lexxe/ Tue, 07 Feb 2023 12:40:28 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=33331 Discover the song "X" by dark-pop artist LEXXE on the blog today. A song both new and different, but with a dash of nostalgia also.

Lately, I have really enjoyed listening to the NYC-based dark-pop artist LEXXE. I had some press come in, alerting me to the song “X,” the latest single release from her. Subsequently, it has not taken me long to find out that the song was not the only thing that is addictive. In this track, she immerses us in a narrative about her father, who passed away 20 years ago this year, and delivers an ode in his honour. My fascination lies in the retelling of this real-life event. That I find equally alluring.

“A few years ago I was performing and could absolutely swear I saw my father sitting front row,” LEXXE says. “I love to write about the supernatural and the things we don’t understand, so while I acknowledge that seeing him could have been something my mind made up, it doesn’t, make it any less poignant.”

Listen on Apple Music

The track is made up using a most delicious combination of shimmery, dark pop and synths. And yet, the production provides pulsating computer beats indebted to the 80s in style. That this is a track that feels that it would not feel out of place if it were used in a movie soundtrack of the time.

LEXXE is a performer first and foremost, no doubt. However, the lyrical narratives she shares are wholly unique. Therefore, above all, these beg to be listened to. What transpires is totally fresh, totally sincere and endlessly listenable.

From listening to the song “X,” the message I took away from it was, that people, friends etc., never completely leave us when they pass on. They remain near to us but just in different ways. LEXXE’s apparition experience was an unexpected sighting and yet sparked this dazzling synth-pop track into fruition.

What LEXXE offers the music world is something totally unique, splashed with a sprinkling of nostalgia vibes and yet, seamlessly fresh. A hattrick of achievements, no less.
