I am absolutely thrilled about this week’s standout release: “Je Ne Sais Quoi,” the debut track from London’s very own self-proclaimed “Pop Girlie Boy,Stan Pratt. Now, I can already hear the questions: Doesn’t Kylie have a track with the same name? Is this a reimagining? The answer is a resounding no. Kylie recorded “Je ne sais pas pourquoi” for her iconic 1988 debut album “Kylie,” but these two tracks couldn’t be more different in sound and style. Kylie embodies that classic disco and dance-pop flair we all love, while Stan Pratt is here to push boundaries with his bold, maximalist pop infused with an alternative edge.

Interestingly, I see a parallel between Stan and the current alt-pop sensation Chloe Qisha, who holds a degree in psychology. Stan brings a unique twist of his own, boasting a degree in neuroscience. (Surprised? I certainly was!). This combination of academic prowess and musical talent is sure to create something truly unique.

Describing the debut offering “Je Ne Sais Quoi,” the song is playful and upbeat albeit notably brimming with a vibrant, cool and thought-provoking narrative, teeming with tongue-in-cheek lyricism.

“I wrote it about a certain category of male narcissist, and at the start of the song, I allude to the way he’s been shaped by his upbringing.” Though the track’s protagonist was “treasured like an angel from the skies”, he’s now “dancing with the devil just to bring you down a level” – in other words, precisely the kind of bad boy who’s tough to resist,” Stan explains.

Stan’s deep love for 80s synth-pop infuses his music with a nostalgic yet fresh vibe that truly resonates with me. While I’m not aware of him covering any of Kylie’s tracks. I can confidently say that his rendition of Bronski Beat’sSmalltown Boy” is a must-listen (check it out here). It’s a brilliant interpretation that showcases his unique style!

When exploring new music and emerging artists, I always trust my instincts. In this case, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of excitement about Stan Pratt. I genuinely believe I’m in for the long haul with his sound. If you’re a fan of Charli XCX, MARINA, Alfie Templeman, or Conan Gray, then I have no doubt you’ll find yourself equally captivated by Stan Pratt.

With her unique blend of observational storytelling and distinctive, thoughtful lyricism, Chloe stands out as a captivating artist filled with authenticity and relatable experiences, making her a force to be reckoned with in the pop landscape.

Chloe Qisha is on such an exhilarating trajectory these days that makes it nearly impossible to keep up. Notably, the songs centre around themes gravitating towards love, relationships and well-being. Mostly the human condition is a big interest, to be expected of someone making the most of a psychology degree. In the instance of “Modern Romance,” Chloe blends intimate lyricism and realism in her distinctive sing/speak style as she breaks down aspects of modern dating. Under the guise of an 80s analogue synthesizer pop, meets 00s indie-pop influence. Moreover, this music is buzzy, earworm-worthy and notably distinct.

Aside from mastering the musical side of things. Chloe is notably making a name for herself, excelling in visual elements. Her image is androgynous chic and her music videos, echo this cool imagery. Moreover, with cover features for Rollingstone UK magazine, and co-signs from Kelly Clarkson and Chris Martin of Coldplay. There is definitely a sense building around Chloe Qisha that her break out is inevitable.

Just as I anticipated, the rising alt-pop sensation Chloe Qisha is set to make waves with her latest offering! Following the release of her captivating self-titled debut EP in November 2024, which showcased her unique blend of catchy melodies and introspective lyrics. Chloe is turning up the heat with her new single, “21st Century Cool Girl.”

Her debut EP just came out, and she hasn’t played more than a handful of live shows yet. Nevertheless, I have a hunch that the emerging alt-pop artist Chloe Qisha is a hot one to watch in 2025. Moreover, I said as much in the Emerging Artists feature I ran on the blog in October, which similarly marked the release of the bold, captivating track “Sexy Goodbye.” With the debut EP now out, I wanted to do a follow-up post on Chloe. Moreover, the uber-cool artistry and distinctive lyrical flair particularly excites me.

In the realm of debut EPs, which typically serve as a powerful introduction to an artist’s unique strengths, Chloe Qisha’s self-titled release stands out as fitting this mould. This five-track compilation highlights Chloe’s impressive musical versatility, weaving together captivating spoken-word elements with dreamy, stylized vocals. The collection embodies a distinct indie alt-pop vibe, sprinkled with an endearing playfulness and infused with a spirited pop-punk attitude poking through, making it a compelling listen that captures her artistic essence and potential.

In addition to the three focus singles “I Lied, I’m Sorry,” “VCR Home Video” and “Sexy Goodbye” already released two new tracks “Evelyn” and “Scary Movie” also appear on the EP. The latter of the two “Scary Movie” upon the EP release takes on the latest focus track mantle. This is a track where it is wholly evident through the lyrical narrative that Chloe has a background in psychology and communications. She articulates feelings of fear and anxiety in an intelligent, contemplative manner. Adding notable weight to her singer-songwriter prowess. Moreover, this EP lays down the foundation for the ‘Chloe Qisha world’

A DIY-style movie clip is released alongside the track. Subtitled the (Official “Story So Far” Video), the clip comprises snippets of pivotal moments throughout the year building to the release of the debut body-of-work.

Undeniably Chloe Qisha is poised to be the next sensation in alt-pop music. She masterfully combines sleek, indie-inspired production techniques with sharp, thought-provoking social commentary and deeply personal narratives. Her songs not only showcase her artistic versatility but also resonate with listeners who seek authenticity and depth in music.

Keep an eye on this rising star! Chloe Qisha is making waves as an emerging pop newcomer, having been featured on BBC Radio 1 Introducing and selected as a First Fifty performer at the November preview showcase for the 2025 Great Escape Festival. When collaborating with the likes of the Holly Humberstone songwriter and producer Rob Milton. Chloe has strategically plotted her musical direction and released two debut tracks since July, propelling her ascent at lightning speed.

Moreover, these striking introductory tracks leave no doubt why she’s garnering such remarkable backing. The Malaysian-born artist, who currently resides in London, has been attracting substantial support from key figures in the music industry. Namely those who are actively known for promoting and endorsing emerging talents in the music scene.

Backstory: She studied for degrees in both psychology and communications and it is her knowledge in these subjects and general inquisitive nature which vastly enrich her songwriting and lyrical narratives. This classic songwriting style has evolved in over two years of writing with notable lyricists. Where she learned the art form of articulating her stories and song ideas in a distinctive way bringing in a captivating dash of nostalgia into the mix. See also cites musical influence stemming from the 80s, especially Talking Heads. The results speak for themselves in the tracks “VCR Home Video,” “I Lied, I’m Sorry” and with the newest offering “Sexy Goodbye.”

Sexy Goodbye” is the last teaser before the debut EP drops on 15th November, which arrives right after The Great Escape First Fifty show. Infused with 80s pop influences and characterized by the prominent use of synths. Chloe’s velvety vocals bring a contemporary edge to the heartbreak pop narrative. As she boldly calls out the names of her partner’s secret online love interests. Furthermore, as she conducts the inevitable breakup, clearing out her ex’s belongings she declares her desire to emerge “bulletproof” from the pain of loss. With lines like “I want to be bulletproof now that I’m loosing you. Oh, cry, cry, cry. I want a sexy goodbye”… “If you’re gonna break my heart. I want to look too damn hot,” the song exudes a captivating and empowering allure.

Chloe Qisha is positively onto something with the crossover, alt-pop/80s influenced style of “Sexy Goodbye“. I really can’t get enough of it. Hits repeat for the 27th time.
