As readers of EQ Music Blog are well aware, we have a particular liking for Nordic pop artists. A vibrant genre that has been the focal point of many features on our blog. From Sigrids electrifying energy to Dagnys catchy melodies, and s dynamic soundscapes to Moykas ethereal vocals. We’ve only scratched the surface of the exceptional talent emerging from this region. Our quest for discovering fresh, innovative voices continues. And I am excited to introduce you to a standout emerging artist: IVY.

Originally hailing from Norway and now based in London, IVY, formerly known as bby ivy, is embarking on an inspiring new chapter in her musical journey. Her latest release, “Let My Hair Down,” showcases a raw and unapologetically honest take on alt-pop, blending highly emotive lyrics with captivating production. This track not only reflects her personal growth but also resonates with listeners on a deeper level. Thus making it a must-listen for fans of genuine and relatable music.

Listen on Apple Music

IVY is not only developing a distinctive sound in the alt-pop genre. She is also setting herself apart from other artists in the Nordic pop scene with her vibrant and anthemic power-pop style. In her artistic journey, she has transitioned from her previously sweet and alluring vocal delivery, which resonated with DJs, producers, and live audiences during various collaborations in the electronic and club music space. Which her most recent collaboration with Tungevaag on the track “The Night” highlights. Additionally, the bold, sing-speak approach she employs in “Let My Hair Down” represents a dramatic change. Moreover, making IVY nearly unrecognizable compared to her earlier pop music endeavours. Yet, above all showcasing her ability to evolve as an artist.

“This era is about trusting my instincts—creatively, emotionally, and physically,” IVY shares. “I’m not overthinking it. I’m letting it be loud, sexy, and unapologetic.”

Above all, these are the captivating aesthetics that IVY similarly incorporates in the “Let My Hair Down” music video. The visuals are vibrant and dynamic, delivering an empowering attitude that exudes confidence and strength. It embodies the spirit of a fierce, independent woman who embraces her individuality, unapologetically seeking to express her freedom and joy as she indulges in a hot girl summer experience. Moreover, celebrating life on her own terms.

Don’t miss out on her compelling artistry—IVY is certainly one to watch in the ever-evolving landscape of pop music!

Listen to “IT girl” by JADE https://eqmusicblog.com/listen-to-it-girl-by-jade/ Sat, 11 Jan 2025 12:22:45 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=37999 In the "IT Girl" visualiser, Jade makes a powerful statement - powerful imagery perfectly accentuates sharp lyrics that take aim at the music industry...

Without a doubt, the buzz surrounding the solo careers of Leigh-Anne, Perrie, Jesy, and Jade, all stemming from their time in the phenomenally successful girl band Little Mix, has been incredibly exciting. Yet I must admit, it is Jade’s artistry particularly in songs like “Angel of My Dreams,” “Midnight Cowboy,” and “Fantasy” that truly captivates me. Her diverse musicality and poignant, salty lyrics, drawn from her own experiences in the music industry, resonate deeply. This potent mix is proving especially empowering and gag-worthy.

The excitement around Jade’s upcoming debut album is palpable, especially with the teaser tracks starting to flow since July 2024. Fans are eagerly anticipating a release date. But in the meantime, Jade has kept the momentum going by dropping the electrifying single “IT Girl.” Teaming up with renowned producers like Cirkut and Lostboy, along with talented co-writers Lauren Aquilina and J Hart, this track delivers a high-energy pop experience. That seemingly fans have been craving as we kick off the new year. It’s hard to imagine anything less than pop perfection from this powerhouse collaboration!

Listen on Apple Music

“IT girl is the c**nty little sister to ‘Angel of My Dreams‘. There’s still so much that people don’t know about me, so I was eager to surprise people and prod the bear a bit. I have to write about my experiences in my own melodramatic way. I’m not going to sugarcoat it,” JADE explains.

While it’s natural for Jade fans to yearn for an extravagant music video for her undeniable banger. She has opted for a compelling visualizer instead, masterfully directed by the acclaimed London duo Fa and Fo. (known for their collaborations with Tove Lo and ). In this captivating clip, Jade boldly asserts her authority, walking into a ceramics store and deliberately shattering every single piece, leaving the shopkeeper bewildered and speechless. This powerful imagery perfectly amplifies the sharp lyrics that take a stand against the music industry. Above all making a striking statement that resonates deeply.

With the release of “IT Girl,” the anticipation among pop fans is palpable. There’s so much to look forward to, and it’s clear that everyone is eagerly awaiting not just the album release date, but also potential announcements regarding live shows or a tour in 2025.

If you’ve been eagerly anticipating news from the vibrant Danish pop music scene, prepare to be thrilled! , one of Denmark’s most electrifying talents, has just ignited a new chapter with her latest track, “Who Said.” This captivating song premiered as the Hottest Record In the World on BBC Radio 1’s New Music Show with Jack Saunders. Thus, setting the stage for her next musical evolution.

MØ’s artistry is a stunning journey of constant transformation, as she fearlessly pushes the boundaries of sound and experimentation. Since the groundbreaking debut album, “No Mythologies to Follow,” captivated listeners a decade ago, she has continued to enchant us all. Don’t miss out on this exciting moment in her career—join the wave of fans embracing her latest masterpiece!

MØ kicks off a new chapter with “Who Said,” showcasing a stylish electronic-pop edge that highlights her distinctive Nordic vocals. The song features a danceable beat that aligns her with the club vibe similarly illustrated in the Major Lazer & DJ Snake track “Lean On,” which propelled her into pop stardom. Reflecting on the origins of “Who Said“, MØ shares… “I wrote the first demo for this song (‘Who Said’) in 2015 on a Ronni Vindahl instrumental loop.” Moreover, bearing all attributions in mind, the electronic aesthetic seamlessly comes together, making it a fitting evolution for her sound.

Listen on Apple Music

Notably as is the way with her music, the narrative in “Who Said” goes much deeper introspectively than the super catchy, singalong chorus sections. Delving into her own personal journey, exploring growth and resistance to change. MØ delivers a commentary reflecting her fear of commitment while expressing her desire to cling to a non-committal streak. Ultimately, she acknowledges that she can’t ignore change. She elaborates by explaining, “It’s about confronting the truth and letting go of the ‘delulu’ mindset.”

Keep an eye out for upcoming releases from MØ, as she boldly pushes boundaries within her music innovation. Moreover, continually defying genre norms and forging a unique artistic identity.

The post Watch “Spaceman” by MØ appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

Some people might not like that in the new track, the Danish superstar recycles the 1996, #1 hit from Babylon Zoo. I am not among one of those people, however. I fondly recall the hard-core electro-rock song was used in a Levi Jeans TV commercial, which I always enjoyed. When Levi Jean commercials are brought to mind. I invariably also start thinking about Nick Kamen (never a bad thing). Back then, Jas Mann, frontman of Babylon Zoo, fascinated me at the time. He hit different and was rather like the Yungblud of his day.

On a personal note, MØ re-envisaging this song gets a big thumbs up from me. The song also aligns with her current aesthetic used in her recent album “Motordrome.” In the expanded version released on Friday, (“Motordrome: The Dødsdrom Edition”) I can understand why she included her own take on “Spaceman“.

Listen on Apple Music

She reworked the song introducing it to a new generation. Using a bold pop style with a heavy synth emphasis. Two things I appreciate

Discussing the Noonie Bao, Ilsey Juber, and Oscar Holter co-write shares…

“We wrote our demo back in 2017, but the timing just didn’t feel right. Then came 2022, and all of a sudden, I was like “it’s now!” We decided to rework the production a little bit – describing the vibe we were going for as a “Gotham rave party.”

With those parting words from her, MØ suitably has us queued up for the video. As you might expect from the clip, it takes us on an intergalactic journey where we meet various supernatural alien beings. It seems to me that they are more of the curious kind than those depicted in comic books with heat-seeking laser eyes. I don’t think we have anything to fear from them, just that they are, and the clip is an artsy watch.

The post Watch “For My Friends” by King Princess appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

On Friday, I received the usual heap of pitches and press releases emailed in, yet, I also went through all the new releases on Spotify. I’m glad I take time doing this every week because, as sure as eggs, I pick up on a track I love, and it turns out to be the one I am never contacted about. This week, King Princess with the song “For My Friends,” has me instantly hooked. Due to their record deal with Zelig Records (Mark Ronson) (let’s face it, my chances of getting mail from Mark are very slim).

Mikaela Mullaney Straus (King Princess) took off in a blaze of glory was runner up in the BBC Sound of 2019 poll. The debut album “Cheap Queen” received equally positive reviews. Recently, they collaborated on a remix with of “Head on Fire” by Griff and Sigrid. The release took them in more of a pop direction than they had previously entered into. After hearing “For My Friends, I understand why the decision was made to drop the remix before King Princess started to commence unleashing their new music. (It’s a teaser of the new direction King Princess is going in, maybe). In the instance of “For My Friends,” definitely.

Listen on Apple Music

The single release also marked the announcement of the singer’s sophomore album “Hold On Baby” following later this year.

Sharing a statement on Instagram about “For My Friends” King Princess says

“I thought it would be extra fab to begin releasing this new record with a song about my two best friends from high school. These girls have been thru the pits with me. The more time I spend with them as an adult, the more I am reminded that they are my home.”

This track features honest and emotional verses, starting off a little subdued and building. Leading up to a killer chorus buzzing of synths and immaculate production. Whereas the music video pays homage to King Princess ride or die’s, Cicely and Chloe. In the clip directed by Nick Harwood, we see the friendship groups bond and the interplay of their relationship. Through a scenario of going on a night out. Through the meeting up, getting ready to the going out part itself and ultimately taking in all of the high spots and the low spots.

A word of warning I am most likely to bang on about this tune for quite a while now. It’s all good I have a tendency to be over-enthusiastic when I absolutely adore something. This song is lighting up my ears, it’s on my playlist and I’m continually hitting repeat. I urge you to do the same.

Watch “House On Fire” by Mimi Webb https://eqmusicblog.com/watch-house-on-fire-by-mimi-webb/ Mon, 21 Feb 2022 12:29:20 +0000 https://eqmusicblog.com/?p=31743 The break out year of Mimi Webb has not slowed down. Her vocals on "House On Fire" are undeniably glowing. Mega pop stardom awaits her.

The post Watch “House On Fire” by Mimi Webb appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

What a breakout year! The emerging singer Mimi Webb was one of the biggest artists to break through in 2021. Soon after becoming enthralled with her striking track “Reasons“, early in the year. I switched onto Mimi faster than I ever did with anyone else before. Her captivating and unique, smoky voice had me spellbound from the offset. While everyone else was waxing lyrical about Olivia Rodrigo and Tate McRae, I stuck firm with and remained captivated by Mimi Webb. In particular, after dropping the track “Good Without,” that solidified her status as one-to-watch.

After snatching third place on the BBC Radio 1’s Sound Of 2022 poll, Mimi follows up the success with the explosive Cirkut produced offering “House On Fire“. Mimi’s debut EP, “Seven Shades Of Heartbreak“, was great. But I am relieved she is moving away from breakup songs for fear of becoming a stereotype. It is a good time to switch to empowering pop anthems, as these are also a good fit for Mimi. She has the right kind of vocal command, almost divaesque, to pull these types of songs off.

Her glowing performance on “House On Fire” is undeniable. Every word she sings is utterly effervescent, but when arriving at the chorus section, Mimi sets the whole thing alight with her sassy allure and altogether cheekier outlook. I appreciate this new mood from Mimi a lot, and I hope she will bring me more of it throughout 2022. I am ready!

Listen on Apple Music

A great song deserves to be accompanied by a fab video also. The KLVDR (Stormzy, Wiley, MØ) directed clip for “House On Fire” does not disappoint.

Being on this journey with Mimi this far, I have long grasped she is capable of genuine fierceness. You may have seen me making comparisons with Tate McRae in my reviews for Mimi Webb. Right now, Mimi is enchanting audiences on a sold-out UK tour. How fortutious. Next up, she will support Tate McRae on her 2022 North American tour.

If you had any doubts about Mimi. Now that “House On Fire” is out, I strongly feel you should be coming around to the idea that she is hotter than hot. I have also said, “her ascent to mega pop stardom is in the same league as Dua Lipa“. Check back with me in a year or two, and let’s see if my tastemaker predictions are boiling hot or below zero freezing, cold.

The post Watch “New Moon” by MØ appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

Danish superstar came to the worlds attention because she appeared as the featured vocalist on the 2015 Major Lazer and DJ Snake dance hit “Lean On.” The release firmly put her on the ascent. We haven’t lost interest in her solo career, it has continued to flourish. As an artist, however, she works in a fusion of styles. Musically, it is very unlike her to stay in one place for more than a hot minute. She thrives on constantly changing things up. Releasing her third album, “Motordrome,” has prompted me to write about her today. And because the latest single, “New Moon,” has also dropped.

If the word Motordrome conjures up for you what it does for me. This will mean we both have the 2015 Tina Turner smash “We Don’t Need Another Hero” (Thunderdome) from the Mad Max movie playing in our heads. Although it is a sensational song, we need to erase that phenomenal track from our minds for a bit. MØ’s “Motordrome” is an album jam-packed with cool, idiosyncratic, hybrid electro-pop tracks. The 10 track collection seamlessly flits from one style to another. “Motordrome” the title, came from a conversation MØ had with her mother about her battles with anxiety. The panic and intrusive thoughts called to mind the “dødstrome”, which is an old carnival trick in which a stuntperson rides a motorcycle around the vertical walls of a motordrome at death-defying speeds.

Listen on Apple Music

Regarding the latest track lifted from the album, she says,

““New Moon” is a song made to manifest a new era. A song about regaining control. To me, it is a reminder to listen to myself. Trust my instincts and not let external forces blur my vision and get me stuck in a spiral. I hope other people get the same energy from it.”

In my view, “New Moon” is a standout electro-pop offering from the album. The emboldened style of the track when teamed with a danceable beat escalates its status as an anthem. Going back to the movies, the video unleashed for “New Moon” is very, epic, widescreen, cinematic in style. The clip directed by London based Fon and Fa sees MØ thrust into a powerful post-apocalyptic world. Her force is so great that if a stray rock were to come hurtling towards her, it would bounce away as if it were a snowflake. A power shift has occurred, and MØ is in control.

I missed the track “Live To Survive” when it came out, you should definitely give this one a spin as well. You will particularly like the dark disco vibe of this track if you are a fan of “24 Hours” by Agnes. They both share a similar aesthetic.

In my eternal quest, to leave the EQ readers with a new upbeat offering to take our readership into the weekend. I thought I was going to come unstuck this week. Not that I wasn’t expecting a slow release week to hit sooner rather than later. (As despite all else, which has been happening around us, the music has carried on rolling out thick and fast.) All was saved when a last-minute gem, dropped into my inbox. The arrival of “Got It Made” from the rising French producer Møme (Jérémy Souillart) and prolific L.A.-based Canadian Ricky Ducati (Midnight to Monaco), being my saving grace.

The work of Ricky Ducati with Midnight to Monaco is familiar to me, having been a super supporter of the duo’s 2016 track “One In A Million.” On the back of the track, “Sail Away” which acted as the artists’ first collaboration together. Ducati has since joined forces with Møme, their debut album “Flashback FM” is due 2021. And if “Got It Made” is any indication of what it has to offer, I am pretty excited about it already.

BIG retro pop vibes have unleashed the excitement in me. “Got It Made” takes us on a music trip through the 70s, 80s and 90s. By way of soulful, funk strokes and disco-pop grooves. Driven by a beat so infectious it is a neigh on impossible to keep dancing feet, still. The strikingly good music video absolutely caught my eye. Without a doubt, it is the best visual I’ve seen all week. Dazzling florescent graphics and borrowing some inspiration from the Sci-Fi movie legacy TRON. Interesting that the clip should be unleashed in the week an update arrived on the much hoped for “Tron 3” movie in the series.

They say: “We imagined “Got It Made” as a time travel to the ’70s/’80s Los Angeles, taken from an imaginary pop radio station — we really would have loved to know California at this time. We wanted the video to be a visual interpretation of it, which ended up being something completely unique, flashing back to two crash test dummies (us) dancing their feelings into this time period, enjoying the ride.”

It is showing the kind of dance/soul-pop mastery that MistaJam's audiences might love.

The post Listen to “10 Outta 10” by Shwain appeared first on EQ Music Blog.

The past few summers have spawned some incredibly massive tunes, tracks which have broke chart records by racking up phenomenal play/streaming counts. Omi – “Cheerleader”, Major Lazer & DJ Snake (feat. MØ) “Lean On”, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber – “Despacito.” I can’t say I’ve been alerted to any release as yet, which is likely to rival the magnitude of those recording breaking, smash hit singles this year. However, one non-major backed song “10 Outta 10” by pop, R’n’B, soul, singer-songwriter Shwain has caught my attention.

I sincerely feel if the track is marketed correctly, that it stands a very, good chance of commanding a big reaction. The song has a fusion of elements gone into it, a pounding rhythm, an obscenely catchy, melodic hook, impressive drum rolls culminating in a smooth island feel. The objective of the track is to have us, up and dancing, which appears an absolute inevitability owing to it touching upon a tiny amount of dancehall inspired swagger. I can imagine this track being around for quite some time, in fact, I wouldn’t be shocked if it saw another incarnation, further down the line much, and consequently re-released in a year or so, as was the way of Omi’s whopping chart-topper “Cheerleader.”

A little about Shwain, he is versed in dance, performance and music. At fifteen he was signed to label O.G. records. He was offered an exclusive two-album deal with Warner Bros but decided to concentrate on his education instead. Now he is making headway into the music industry with “10 Outta 10” and backing vocal spots for the likes of the rap duo Krept and Konan and highly respected Producer/DJ/hip-hop figure, Mr Bigz.

I say Shwain is showing the kind of soul-pop mastery on “10 Outta 10” that MistaJam’s audiences would love. Hopeful the track will land on the said groovy, radio presenters ears and subsequently become his first step on the ladder towards superstardom.
